I appreciate your videos. Excellent work. I would like to see this one with a G&L L2000 included. I've played G&Ls since 1982. They are outstanding instruments.
Johnny I Really enjoyed that Video I Got All 3 Basses The P bass and the J Bass and the Music Man You're right You Know Them When you Here Them 3 Different Tones Leo Fender was a Genius indeed God Bless you Johnny For Sharing and I will Keep you and your Family in Prayer 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Awesome stuff Johnny! Love your approach to all the different styles. I've got one of each, and use them all for the right feel as you pointed out. Fantastic video!
I definitely agree. I've always loved the sti gray but it's only until recent years I've learned to love the p and J bass. Leo was such a pioneer in every sense of the instrument.
While I am primarily a guitar playa, When doing my own compositions, I need some Bass in my life. There are 3 sounds that are needed in music composition. Like U said, how Leo knew? I don't know! But he made it do what it do!! My Mom bought me a P bass when I was in High School. I took it to Chuck Levins and had it modded to a PJ. I went on later as an adult to buy a Jazz. Recently I got a Musicman copy to complete the sounds I need. Louis Johnson was the first I saw with one and shortly after Rick James and his bass playa!! My copy has 2 pups but if I dial it back to the bridge only position, I get that Louis Johnson tone that I remember! Shadacaca!!! my brother!! My first car was a 77 Olds Cutlass by da way!
I really love old Fender basses, Leo was an inovater, a real genious...I have two and my favorite is precision from 1969. It was originally olympic white, but now, since it is an old lady, it is more yellow-like. These things are beautifully aged.
By the way, i love you videos Johnny, you are really funny :) In the case you want to listen how my old fender sounds - an actually, I would love to know your opinion, it is here: th-cam.com/video/rCVScdSuFe4/w-d-xo.html
Excellent history lesson. I’ve been considering adding a G&L to the collection. Does anyone know which model of the G&L was the “last” bass that Leo Fender developed?
I have two degrees in industrial design, including an M.S. (science, not art) from Art Center College of Design in California. I've studied industrial history quite a bit as part of my coursework and out of personal interest. Leo Fender's guitar and bass designs are some of the truly great modern industrial product designs of the 20th century, not just American... I mean period. I've owned several Fender basses, including a pre-CBS jazz bass, and I've played a Music Man Stingray bass. I rate the designs of these basses up their in greatness next to the famous mid-century modern furniture designs of Charles and Ray Eames, licensed and manufactured for the last 70 years by Herman Miller in Southwestern Michigan. I own an Eames LCW chair that my father gifted to me when I graduated with my first design degree over 20 years ago. What's missing is, broadly speaking, regarding industrial design history books and where the topic is studied, taught, and discussed, Fender does not get nearly the recognition that IMO he is due, if any at all. On another related historic note, Charles and Ray (wife of Charles) and Leo Fender all lived and created their great designs in post-WWII Southern California. In many ways, including similarities in their career paths during and immediately following WWII, they were all contemporaries. Charles and Leo were born within 2 years of each other and they passed away with 2 years of each other. Leo was in Fullerton, CA and Charles and Ray lived and worked in L.A.; Venice Beach. The designs of Fender and Eames share so much philosophically in terms aesthetics, functionality and practicality it's striking to me that I've never found scholarly works, writings or discussions that recognize the parallels between them; the parallels are THAT strong. Hmmm... Maybe I need to create that essay, book or exhibit myself?
Keep on spreading the message...!
👍🙂

The three best bass sounds of all time 😊
Good call on The Brothers Johnson being on the Stingray headstock. Leo Fender used them to promote it when he introduced it with his Musicman amps.
I realy love the first 1 warm colours .
