The straps for my diving fins were too long/loose so I was wondering if I could just shorten the springs. After watching this, I was able to take 4cm off the spring length using this method. Very simple and effective! Thanks for the video. It saved me the $80 (AUD) for the new straps when all I needed was a couple of shorter springs! 👍
I think it would depend on the spring but you have a good point some materials would be very soft after heating. In my limited experience I have not needed to quench them. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
I enjoyed watching your video, very useful. What is the brand and model of that mini torch you used? Is it an oxy acetylne torch?I live in Belgium (Europe). Any idea where I can buy one?Best regardsPete Sreges
+P. Sreges I run it on acetylene. It's like these: www.amazon.com/Little-Torch-Tips-Box--Acetylene/dp/B001DZIML0/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1454626892&sr=8-12&keywords=oxy+fuel+torch or www.ebay.com/itm/New-Smith-Oxy-Fuel-small-welding-torch-/141891745453?hash=item21096836ad:g:630AAOSwFMZWraIg
Springs are hardened steel. If you try to cut it with wire cutters it will ruin the cutters. If you have ever seen a pair that has a hole in the cutter edges someone tried to cut something too hard. Hope that helps!! :)

That's awesome. Thanks for letting me know!
Just what I was looking for. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Thanks, i had broken off spring hook in my ebike throttle. Fixed it with butane torch. Will see if it wont break again. So far so good.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the great advice. Worked like a charm.
Excellent! Thanks for letting me know!
Well done!
Thanks!
Bro.. I wouldn't be looking on TH-cam if I had more than a pair of pliers 😒
For the bend of hook ,ever try just propane map etc.? Wondering if it would work.
That should work just fine.
Interesting video, thanks. Would you not want to quench the hot spring or would that make it brittle?

Does butane lighter work for small diameter spring?
Does anyone know how hot that flame is? I need to do some custom springs (not that thick but still).
Dang. Nice.
Thanks John!

+goward3 Thank you for the reply. Do you run it on acetylene only or both ac + oxy?
+P. Sreges It uses ac + oxy. Thanks for watching!
Why would you cut it with heat instead of a pair of wire cutters snip?

If it's who I'm thinking of it's from cutting live wires. Fastest way to find and de-energize a circuit
@@SoatMon oh okay that would make sense.
Thank you
Ok, now in compression
We don't have those torches.
Keine Ahnung von Federn
