You should drop A guitar at my door instead... Wild playing tho!
"I know that doesn’t make sense, but also it does."
It absolutely does. Don't listen to the haters.
Drop A is the best tuning.
I agree with drop A being the drop C of 7 strings! Although lately I’ve been enjoying drop B for some new inspiration
Wouldn't it be the drop D of 7 strings? (changing one string from standard B)
@@shubniggurath6464 drop C is where my love for guitar began, most of the bands I listen(ed) to play in this tuning. Drop A is the drop C of 7 string because most of the bands I enjoy that play 7 strings use drop A. So that’s where my heart is and what I prefer to play and write in for 7 string.
You should totally try out some drop Bb. It gives you that tightness drop of C/B but the chug of drop A
❤The Mick Gordon Snippet
bruh i keep my 6 string in drop a#.. on a 24.75 scale length
I like that he played A For Andrew
It would be a crime not to
@@BaenaCarcosa Hell yeah brother
Drop Andrew
Facts. It's a banger
Solar flair homicide is the song I really love for Emmure in drop A, the whole album was banger
I was gonna pick that one but there were so many 0-12-13 riffs already in here I wanted to switch it up haha
Ngl, demons is lowkey a better song. Not as iconic tho
@@BaenaCarcosa is there ever truly enough? xD
I feel like Drop G is closer to being the Drop C of 7-strings because they both involve tuning a whole step down and then drop-tuning. Great content!
Purely technically correct but in usage I would say that Drop A still wins out.
It is not, delete this
It’s the vibe man, not the technicalities.
Ice Nine Kills was in Drop G for The Silver Scream.
Yep, Drop A is drop D for 7s
You rocked all of those songs! I'm a sucker for Fit for An Autopsy.
The transition between songs is too perfect man
Best tone and mix you had in a while, maybe ever
That FFAA was cleaaan man great playing! Love the Knot getting sime love too
Possession is exactly the song I'm practicing with my copy of this guitar!
Sorry, but i think the drop C tunings for 7 string is drop G
Exactly what I was thinking he would need to tune down a full step and drop to G for it to be the equivalent
I’d say G#, drop G is a little uncommon while drop C is insanely common
FINALLY
@@HAELLEN_HATECORE it’s not about commonality it’s about the musical intervals being the same drop c is a six string guitar tuned down a full step then dropped. Drop g is the same thing, but with the seven string.
You are right
When I think of Drop A riffs, the first one that comes to mind is Fear Factory - Edgecrusher
Here's something to note: all Fear Factory is played in standard tuning. Edgecrusher is played in standard A (ADGCFAD)
@@fromdepthswerise3024 I was going by what Guitar World said in the late 90's when they featured the tabs for Edgecrusher.
@visionsofbeyond9095 I wasn't directing the comment specifically at you, my apologies if it came off as such. I was just noting the error there. Dino doesn't play in Drop tunings, it's all standard (whether it's 6, 7, or 8 strings).
0:51 Chelsea Grin - My Damnation
1:07 Suicide Silence - Unanswered
1:28 Thy Art is Murder - The Purest Strain of Hate
1:58 Emmure - Demons with Ryu
2:24 Attack Attack - A for Andrew
2:40 Mick Gordon - Rip & Tear
2:58 Fit for an Autopsy - Far from Heaven
3:18 Slipknot - The Heretic Anthem
3:38 Whitechapel - Possession
3:58 The Acacia Strain - Skynet
Just ordered my first Aristides. 070s with Evertune, purple sparkle, black burst, bareknuckle Ragnaroks, set up in drop F. It was your channel that mainly got me looking at Aristides, now the wait begins.
The main riff to Sp Lit by Chimaira is a dope ass riff
Orbit Culture - Mast of world (outro)
Orbit Culture - While we serve (outro)
2024 and people still sleeping on Orbit Culture. The ending to Mast of the World is crazy. I can’t believe Niklas sings and plays some of the things he does at the same time.
@@ErikBeckner93 Ayyy my man knows what’s up!! Haha Seeing their growth from 2018 (when I discovered them) has been awe inspiring! They deserve the world stage with the greats as they’re carving the future of metal 🔥
The start of 4th Arra Of Dagon by Nile gotta be my fav Drop A riff
The Acacia Strain riff gave me a mosh pit ‘nam flashback 😳
Took me right back to warped tour
Jinjer - various songs, but I guess if I have to pick one, then Pisces
same for Mastodon, but I'll pick Mother Puncher
Coheed and Cambria - Gravity's Union (although technically it was recorded on an 8 string, it's easily done in Drop A bc A is the lowest note used.)
Also, I didn't ever feel like tuning my 7 string down on all strings, so I would play KoRn songs that were in A standard in Drop A. I have a feeling many people did that.
Possession was the first thing I thought of, awesome to see it on here
Nile annihilation of the wicked
My favorites are coffin dragger and when I downtune gojira - backbone. Far from Heaven tho is super cool, it's hard to play lol
This is so awesome. *furiously jotting down riffs to learn*
Andrew….your mix in this video was insane! I think you had the bass dialed in perfect to compliment the guitar tone.
Drop A is to deathcore what Drop C is to metalcore.
Well said.
so cool. hoping to get a 5 string bass soon for them low lows
that's a really beautiful jackson
Skynet by the acacia strain is the heaviest one in my opinion
trying to actually compose in Drop A and not just chug chug chug is how i learned that the way i write music isn't compatible with anything below Drop A#
Ice Nine Kills-The American Nightmare. Banger sweeping riff
Real ones caught the livestream and saw the struggle for the TAIM riff xD
You never go for the obvious ones and I like you for that. 🤘🤘🤘
I was there at the Livesteam and it´s nice to see it now finished
Missed that one riff just after the beginning of Caved In by Spite
I love Amon Amarth's riffs, though I only know one in drop A, being Guardians of Aasgard. Most of their songs are in drop B I think x)
Great playing bro!
When you gonna make top 10 Drop A sharp riffs/breakdowns from German metal bands of 1985?
0:00 “DROP A GUITAR RIFFS!!!” As He Keeps His Hand In Time Signature Upon The Guitar
For me, Drop A is more the Drop D for 7 strings as you only have to down tune the B a whole step, whereas drop G on the other hand is a whole step below A, kinda like C to D. Wonderful playing! My favorite drop A song is either Possession by Whitechapel or Last Breath by Chelsea Grin
both my bands play in drop A we use 6 strngs tho but i love it
baritone?
I just knew Unanswered had to be in here. Absolute deathcore classic!
I think "The kingdom sitteth lonely beneath thine hollowed heavens" main riff by Infant Annihilator is one of the heaviest drop A riffs
(That one with triplets and then it slow down you know)
My favourite drop A riff will probably be reincarnate by Motionless in White, partly because it was the first riff I ever knowingly heard in that tuning. Technically it's more the drop d of 7 string as your tuning the lowest string down a whole step from standard tuning and nothing else; whereas there is extra step whole with drop c.
The production is insane
Sad Nile wasn’t in this list. Their entire discog is Drop A, and on 6 string guitars for the first 5 albums. Anyways love you Bean
I think my favorite drop A bands don’t use sevens…Nile, abominable putridity, haha I love drop A tuning…great collection of heavy riffs
Gotta love anything Drop A
would it be a stretch to do heaviest unconventional tuning riffs? (example: Zyglrox/Totla Mad from Periphery I, any Glass Cloud tune, etc)
Monuments too
This is exile by Whitechapel easily has some of the heaviest riffs i have heard, and to think deathcore just got heavier from there
That A for Andrew riff is SO good🫡
That Jackson guitar is an absolute gem 🔥🔥
“The drop C of 7 strings”. YES. That.
I JUST picked up my 24 3/4 scale 6-string harley benton from the luthier's, had 17-74 strings installed for a drop A tuning
what a timely video lol
the most cursed guitar setup I've heard in my life, killer guitar tho
That's pure torture...
On same scale and tuning I used 14-80
17-74?! Your poor fingers! That poor neck!
17-74? Did you have to dismantle a suspension bridge for those cable strings? Did the luthier use a chainsaw to cut the slots for the nut?
Perfect choices :)
the emmure demons with ryu hit hard asf
I feel like an outlier when I say that G# is the apex of all tunings.
I immediately thought of FFAA but didn’t expect to see them in the video. Sick.
I'm really glad A For Andrew was on here, love seeing Attack Attack riffs featured. Andrew Whiting is one hell of a player. A For Andrew is an absolute BANGER.
It totally makes sense!
Best Tuning ❤
that emmure riff brought me WAY back.
Finally, my favourite tuning! By the way, i think drop c of a 7 string guitar is drop g. Nevertheless, thank you for the video. 😊
It absolutely makes sense.
Without Drop A, we are nothing
I get what you mean about the Drop C of 7 strings. I play in Drop A on my 5 string bass a lot, if i had a 4 string, id probably keep it in drop C. There is a punch to both
Nice riffs.
Say what you want about pre Glass Cloud Emmure, but Demons with Ryu goes hard 🔥 great vid my friend!
Only the dead by Molotov Solutions is a super heavy 7 string riff in drop A check them out if u haven’t already . Thanks for all ur great videos !
Very surprised to see Demons With Ryu on here love that song so much. The break down after is sooooo good aswell.
For the next video do some Breakdown of Sanity! 🤘
That guitar looks insane 😵
My favourite is Crowbar - To Carry the Load
Really surprised that 0 riffs from the Oceano - Depths album wasn’t included.
Pretty sure Traitors should be in the 2nd video too!
had that Thy Art riff stuck in my head all day today, played that one riff over and over for 10 minutes on my guitar to get my fix after work just to find it here 😂
Your part two needs Bury Your Dead for sure
Legend: diagnosis doom. Groovy
hey you did it, awesome
My favorite is Widower by Make Them Suffer
Skynet was the second song I learned to play, thank you sir 👏
The intro riff to Burn Face by Acacia Strain always does things to me
Damn man you have some incredible endurance and stamina. 💪💯Did you record that in one take ?
Started playing with drop A recently and oh boy, heavy tuning make Homer go....heavy
HARD agree. Drop A rocks.
DropA seems tap into the resonance of the Earth itself
Holy Wars from Thy Art Is Murder is really good
Nile. Annihilation of the Wicked and Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren Ka. "Amongst..." has guitar production sounds so meaty 25 years later.
"The Vermin Devourer" by Analepsy.
Anything from the last two Abominable Putridity albums or the newest song.
Great playing as always! What string gauge are you using?
If the next one of these videos isn’t Drop Ab/G# I might cry
Nile would have been a great addition there.
Mastodon has some bangers in drop A.
That's a SWEET ass guitar.
super crazy riff is "Lore" by Unproccessed
Dude you could and totally should do a video on yhe descending tunings of Acacia Strain and how they can just drop the heaviest shit in any tuning.
still to this day if my highs are off I just warm up with a run through of my damnation.. beaut of an album
here i was waiting for psychosocial, completely forgot about the heretic anthem , fuck yea!
Good to see Chelsea Grin in the list.
A lot of options from Make Them Suffer, ether has sick riffs so does blood moon neverbloom
Would be amazing to do a "best a standard riffs" video
SCAR SYMMETRY - Holographic Universe tho
anyone have any idea on how i could get that snare tone irl? sounds amazing!
