Honestly, you need to take him to Flushing, Queens. Amazing, amazing food but some of the smaller places have menus in Chinese only, and no one there speaks English. I wish I had a guide. I can point to tasty looking things but I'm afraid to just order randomly because I might get crispy fried intestines or pork kidney.
Having tea with my grandpa, one of the greatest pleasures in life. Grandma's cooking, right there too. Just sharing a meal with them. Simple things that bring such joyous memories.
Thank you for sharing and making the videos. steam black bean spare ribs, sesame seed football (aka Hum Sui Gok), bake bbq hum bow and sweet rice cake (aka Ba Hong Go)
not Chinese in this lifetime, but living in NYC (Brooklyn specifically) I am able to indulge my love of authentic Asian cuisines developed while stationed in the Pacific in the mid 1970s. Chinese, Japanese< Korean, Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Fill[pino all healthy and delicious cuisines. I had the great good fortune to be invited into many homes as a friend.
Oh man. I miss good dim sum. After the past 3 yrs our usual spot went downhill. 😭 now I want dim sum. I prefer har cheung fun. I save the sauce for har gow. Haha. I like the steam pork rib and seafood eggplant. Our son loves bai tang gao. I like dan tat or pineapple bun. Hi to Gong Gong! ❤
Not really if it doesn't come with a sauce meant for it! Usually stuff like siew mai, etc have enough flavour on their own. Bready things like cha siew bao definitely not. You might get a chilli sauce with har gao (I think it's somewhat normal in Singapore at least), and you'll get that special soy sauce with the cheung fun rice rolls, and likely black vinegar and ginger strips with xiao long bao, but it depends on the individual dish. You COULD pour some soy sauce in a small dish, pick something up with chopsticks and dip it lightly in it and not be TOO weird, but it's usually best to enjoy the food as the chef prepared it. You can always remark about whether it's good or not, like Grandpa here says the har gao isn't good (he's right it shouldn't fall apart like that), but the daan tat and ngau cheung were good. Never pour table soy sauce direct from the spout over food, though, that's rude!
Dim sum will rarely need additional salt or soy sauce but table sauces, including chili oil, hoisin sauce, mustard (be careful with that!), or vinegar are very common.
amazing video, whatever gong gong said is legit. The only thing I dont like about this video is American yamcha place dont give you bowls, they only give you a plate!😑 We are Cantonese and we put our food in bowls, plates are for bones only. Northern Chinese people use plates to eat.
Hello again, you + your grandfather's energy are very heartwarming. This was a very Dim Sum Educational Etiquette Video, w/Family + your friend added that little something that brought a smile. I love the story of the King's tea hand gesture, and you all seemed to dine like kings, with the very delicious food, and hearing the various pronunciations, and your grandpa will always like home made over any restaurant, it's just a fact.(like the original coke taste, to the new recipe). It was great spending time with you both again, on to the next adventure! Grandpa did look 🤩"Hollywood" in those shades + yet carried himself like a humble King😍, educating anyone watching♨️. 🙏💕🌎♨️🥢🥢🥢✨
In korea we love our chicken feet, even got the skills to slide out all the bones and sell boneless bbq grilled ones. Also my fav dimsum have to ha gao, even tho i love xiaolong bao
0:25 If you watched the video carefully; you would have known that this is Tang Gong Seafood Restaurant in Monterey Park, California in the Los Angeles area
What other foods should we and Chinese Grandpa try out and where? Let us know!

Grampa really knows his "Dim Sum" I like the history behind the finger tap!! Such a smart, kind man!! and FUNNY!!!
You have to add a 6th dim sum dish, Lo Mai Gai, or sticky rice wrapped and steamed in a lotus leaf.
Oh yes! It's not full dimsum experience without eating some Lo Mai Gai. I agree.
Yes, that's a good one.
Grandpa is the boss.
Having tea with my grandpa, one of the greatest pleasures in life.
Grandma's cooking, right there too. Just sharing a meal with them.
Simple things that bring such joyous memories.
Haha I ordered my fav Dim Sum Chicken Feet and my friend said Oh No it looks like your eating Baby Hands, too funny!
"Who hit you? Me? Yeah what about?" LMAO!
He's like lets let the audience decide.
Monterey Park is THE SPOT for Dim Sum!
I like all the dim sum dishes but my must have are the tofu skin wraps and pan fried pork and chive dumplings.
Be good to grandpa. Loved this yum cha video.
So glad I learned the story behind the finger tap!
I always get steamed rice rolls with shrimp and the chicken feet when I get dim sum. If a place has good xiao long bao, I go for that as well.
My sister Staci and I love watching your Grandpa and your self eating Chinese Food! Your Videos make us hungry!

My mouth has been watering through the whole video 🤤 except for the chicken feet I also don't like chicken feet
Yum! Great memories of dim sum! Had chicken feet when I was very young. But can’t do them now as an adult 🫣
Hey Evan! Are you from Canada or US? If US, are you from Los Angeles or Boston?
Thank you
In the Los Angeles area, Monterrey Park is THE neighborhood for Chinese food... especially Dim Sum.

New to the Channel. Love the content!
Sriracha with the fried daikon cake is the bomb!
Try them also with hoisin sauce, or red vinegar.
You are right calling lo pak ko as fried daikon cake. Although called turnip cake or carrot cake it has neither turnip nor carrot but daikon.
Love this! Is it customary to not add extra sauce (like on the dumplings etc)?

I'm Mexican and Puerto Rican and I love chicken feet.
I personally am not a fan but it’s funny how Mexicans eat both chicken and pigs feet. I’ve seen my family make soups with both 😅
Hat off dude
Chicken feet, woot and I'm white lol. One of my favorite dim sum dishes
I'm not big on the meatballs but I want some bao plus chicken feet, maybe some shumai and other dumplings, cheong fun and a few other dishes
My favorite is always the bean curd skin roll.
Those we call them ngau yuk kau (牛肉球) and the sauce goes with is not ginger sauce but Worcester sauce (Worcestershire sauce). They are they only pair!
Gao choy bao is the best part about dim sum
grandpa with the presidential sheesh indeed
Big boss shit lol
