      You are planning to conduct postdoc in Japan in the future?
      For me, what I did was I searched up the professors who are working in the same research field as me, and then I sent formal emails to them asking if they are willing to host my postdoc research in their universities/institutes. There is also something called the JSPS fellowship that you can check it out. Basically it's a governmental fund in which upon successful application, you will get to work as a postdoc researcher in Japan for 2 years. I hope this helps!

    Hi please what does your PI/ boss require from you as a postdoc in the lab.

      Sorry for the very late reply 🙈 Uhm, just the typical research things I guess? Do experiments, get results, interpret it and eventually try to publish a paper

    Hi 👋 are you under JSPSS program? any tips to increase my odds on getting postdoc in Japan?

    • @yh-japan
      @yh-japan  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello! I’m actually not under the JSPS fellowship. In fact I have been trying to apply for it but my applications weren’t successful. I’m still going to try applying a few more times while I’m in Japan now 🤗
      If you’re talking about increasing the odds in getting JSPS opportunity, I believe it’s just a matter of good proposal, and unfortunately, luck. Other than JSPS, you can try to drop emails to some professors, as some of them may be willing to take you in as a foreigner postdoc researcher 😉

    If i learn Japanese to some level , will it be helpful to get a post doc after phd?

    • @yh-japan
      @yh-japan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, I think if you plan to stay in Japan for a period of time, for example to do your postdoc for 2 years, then yes. By learning Japanese and getting better at it, it surely will help you in your daily lives in Japan! 😉

    Awesome, I'm also from Malaysia looking to do a postdoc in Japan. Kobe University is one of my university of interest too, for postharvest biology. Did you apply from a PhD in Malaysia? Are 'black' lab groups common?

    • @yh-japan
      @yh-japan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Oh that's great! What I did was dropping emails to multiple professors who are related to my field, and asked if they intend to hire a new postdoc in their laboratory. I also told them that I'm willing to try applying for JSPS fellowship if they are willing to host my stay in Japan. I think you can try that too. What do you mean by 'black' lab groups though?

    • @Lekirius
      @Lekirius ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yh-japan Seems what I expected. I previously thought the JSPS is the only way for a postdoc there. Thank you 🙂.
      By black lab group I mean the equivalent of black company, as in an oppressive environment (bullying PI's, no weekends, going home at 10 everyday).
      Thank you again.

      @@Lekirius Haha if the professor has additional fundings in which he needs to hire postdocs/PhDs by using it, then there's a chance that he can hire you using his funds. The pay should be lower than JSPS though.
      Ah I see. I think that fully depends on individual supervisors. 🤣I'm blessed to have a great supervisor, so I do have my work-life balance. However, I do hear cases where some supervisors require their postdocs/PhDs to stay until night time though. Pray to not get into such group! 🤗
