How many other knitters are out there like Kim and me? It seems like everyone I’ve met after starting to work at our LYS 2 years ago has been a part of a knitting group and watched TH-cam videos all these years. Adding the community aspect of knitting to my life has been this incredible gift. I so appreciate all your time and work you put into this community

My LYS is Apricot Yarn and Supply in San Diego California. Friday night at social knitting I sat with a couple from Seattle. She recommended your vlog to me! I was a solitary knitter before retiring 4 years ago.

This episode is one of my favorite things. The length of the video is organic and great...it didn't feel long, almost sad when you were done. LOVE your relaxed banter. I appreciate the discussion about the purl stitches. I learned to knit from my grandmother and my mom, and when I started watching knitting videos I realized I was twisting my knit stitches because I was knitting through the back loop...since I was a kid. It was challenging learning to knit right. I have no idea what kind of cast on I do either...I've never seen anyone cast on the way I do. lol

Kim, my Scottish Granny said to tell you that wool floats and was used in fisherman’s knits with specific family cables and knots, so if the fisherman was lost at sea, the wool sweater could ID the lost soul. The fisherman’s cables sweater that would float to shore had a family cable and knotty pattern that was created for each fisherman family. Interesting so thought I would share as you mentioned your sweater floating in the lake.

Love listening to your podcasts! It reminds me of how my sister and I talk when we get excited and go off topic, but come back to it ten minutes later picking up right where we left off! 🤣. We do it all the time! Especially when we haven’t seen each other in a while and have a lot to catch up on, so I can totally relate. I really enjoy seeing all your FO’s, WIP’s and purchases too. I learned so much in this episode! Congratulations on 10k+ subscribers!

I’ve been subscribed and loving watching you two since your first episode. I could watch you chat about knitting all day long! It’s like a great knitting session with my besties. Thanks for having me along! This episode was awesome, as usual and I now have a number of new additions to my Ravelry queue. I love the new logo. It captures you both wonderfully and I can’t wait to order some merch once it’s available.

Gentleman in Moscow is one of my all time faves! I read it and then I listened to it which was excellent!! All those Russian names etc were perfectly pronounced. Lincoln Highway is next on my list. I didn’t really love Rules of Civility-I thought it wasn’t his best. Anyway, I LOVE you two and really look forward to meeting you at Rhinebeck! ❤️

I LOVE the longer podcasts. You two are so fun to watch. You worry too much about your presentation, we want the real you not the edited and polished you. The way you present is like sitting and knitting with friends. I feel like that’s what keeps viewers coming back. You two. ❤️❤️❤️💙

Thanks got the episode! It’s a Saturday evening and I relaxing in bed knitting and watched this over two hour video! It made for a fun knit night! And I prefer your spontaneity and ease of sharing stories with us. So many lovely projects. I want to knit them all. I had to laugh about the Eastern Purl stitch, Jonna. I have never worried about correcting my purl stitch knitting that I was doing it incorrectly. But I guess more it’s time to make the change because you helped me understand what issues it causes. Darn! Continued success in your knitting adventures.

Great memory making, as well as skill seed planting with your granddaughters, Jonna, and I love the book idea mentioned above. My SIL makes the greatest memory books of special occasions that become treasures to pour over again and again. I enjoy your videos immensely! I love the “off script” banter. I love that you’ve both read The Tale of Despereaux. I read it to my fourth grade class every year. My all time favorite Kate D’Camillo book is the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. I recommend it to everyone. One of my other favorite stories is Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. It is for adults only because it would bore a poor child to death. I totally agree with Jonna about summer. Thank you for a lovely video.

The “grammar lesson” made me laugh. I always find it jarring when people say “knitted” - and I realized this is probably an English/Canadian usage versus American English. I would never say “knitted” for the past tense whereas I think most Americans (including my husband) would prefer “knitted” as the past tense.

I always knit my ribbing flat, I inc one stitch as my ‘sewing seam’, knit front and then back, then seam together. If I’m doing a decorative edge, I often join back in the round to complete, them sew the ribbing seams together.

Congratulations on 10K subscribers, ladies! I’m always excited to see that an episode is ready to watch on a Friday morning; that means knitting and relaxing are on the docket for the day before what is usually a busy weekend.
Kim, your new Ranunculus is beautiful! As I am in the bottom ribbing of mine, I do appreciate all the detail you have given. I have chosen to go down a couple needles sizes for the bottom to avoid the flaring out as it just isn’t flattering on my apple shape. I’m definitely going to try the bind off that you mentioned.
Interestingly enough, my Dingley Dell bottom ribbing is biased ( I think that is the correct term). I’m going to try blocking it one more time and if that doesn’t work, I’m going to pull out the bottom and redo it. I am sure it is something I am doing, I just don’t know what it is lol.
Jonna, enjoy that spinning class! You are such an accomplished seamstress-beautiful work. Now you have me wondering about purling. I do purl the counter-clockwise way, but my purls are much wider than my knit stitches. Your Salty Air tee and Dingley Dell are both stunning.

Thank you! What yarn did you use for your DD?
Yes, I was so surprised at that distance between knit stitches in a 1x1 rib. I hadn't taken much notice before. Now, I can't unsee it! When I get home, I'll take a pic, side by side and post it on the Community tab.

I used the Myak Kupa. I'm really considering ripping back the bottom as it is slightly too big. I love how the top fits though! I'm going to research regulating my tension between knits and purls too.

What a fantastic episode! And thank you for the link to the combination knitting video. I can confirm this also works spectacularly well for double (2x2) rib. Jonna's Salty Air tees and Kim's Ranunculi look fantastic. I think I might be the only knitter in the world not to have knit these or a Love Note, but I plan to fix that next year.

Another fun podcast! Jonna, It was so interesting to hear about the different ways to purl. I remember reading in Carson Demers’ “Knitting Comfortably” that the eastern purl is a good method for reducing forceful exertion in the hands. I’m definitely going to give it a go after hearing about your success!

I woke up thinking about the V-neck on the DD. Some knitters have really deep Vs and others not so much. I wonder if it has to do with row gauge? (Which I haven't checked myself, but will do so now out of curiosity.) Also, pattern size and yarn content (drape). Just things to think about so that you get the garment you want!

Jonna, what a stunning dress - you are just beautiful. I love your choices in knits - some I have done, some I will do. Jonna, never say never about wheel spinning. I did and two wheels now sit in my knitting room. My first class was only in July! Lol. I can’t believe that you have John Arbon - That is the exact color I ordered in Fiber from the UK. Jonna, I realized the same thing about my purling about two years ago! I learned to knit English style as a child, then I taught myself (without the aid of TH-cam or another knitter) to knit continental a little over a decade ago. I knew there was something weird going on with my purls, but the light bulb didn’t go off until two years ago when I started to watch knitting podcasts and got more into knitting (read: obsessed with knitting). Then I taught myself the “proper” way to purl. Then last year I taught myself English flicking. All that saga to say that I realized that continental knitting is the most comfortable and fastest for me still, but my tension is (much) looser than when I flick and I have the tendency to “row out” when I knit back and forth on a cardigan. I finally gave myself permission on my last two projects to just combine all the styles to mitigate my tension issues. If I’m knitting in the round and need to purl, I knit continental and purl the eastern/Romanian way to maintain the same tension, then resolve by purling through the back loop. When knitting flat, I will usually now flick the knit side, then purl the eastern way and resolve it by knitting through the back loop. It sounds needlessly complicated when I write it all out like that, but I just wanted to say that as knitters there is no wrong way. We all are constantly improving and you use whatever techniques are in your toolbox that give you a better result!

    • @KnitTogetherwithKimJonna
      @KnitTogetherwithKimJonna  ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you, RK. I completely agree! Early on I believed there was a "right" way to knit (and therefore a wrong way). Love hearing about your purling journey. Learning all of these techniques allows you to be the boss of your knitting! Thank you for sharing. J

1:41:25 - what Kim was saying is so true! I learned knitting with an eastern purl/KTBL combination. At the time, I didn't know this wasn't the standard way of knitting until I started reading patterns that called for KTBL.... I was so confused haha! It's too much work to configure the pattern to my way of knitting, so I eventually just learned to do it the "right" way
