- My game uninstalled itself a few days ago and when I tried to reinstall the disc it stopped midway. I googled everything to try and fix it (hard reset, clear local saves, offline, everything) but then I decided to try this and it worked! Hope this helps anyone with this problem!
Edit: This fix is for Xbox One, as far as I know people who have tried this on PlayStation did not work!

You might have another solution I’m trying to redownload it but it gets to 2-3 gigs and stops installing I’ve tried restarting/resetting the console and stopped the download but it just won’t fix it
Hey guys i was trying to install rdr2 and it didn't install a disc. TH-cam tutorials didn't help but idk what got through my brain and i inserted the disc in the console , blocked the disc exit and pressed eject button the disc was inside and couldn't get out and the console took it back in and then it started installing normally and eventually worked.
I have the disc in the console but when I try and download it from the store, it still wants me to pay $60 for the game. Idk what to do at this point
Mine won’t even install it just keeps saying installation stop repeating me it won’t even get up to a percentage so idk
I think I figured it out my Xbox I think needed to be angled up right💀
I tried everything. Nothing worked. After 3 hours of trying everything the feeling of breaking both discs and the DVD case and thrown them out of the window felt SOOOO good. I hereby promise I will NEVER EVER try to install the game again.

Can it be the disk it self because its not showing when I go to Microsoft store( the install option) but i tired my other game( titanfall2) and it said install

@Zack Johnston no but I have other physical games and this has happened to me before but not specifically with rdr2. I only own the digital version

I don’t think this method works anymore. I tried reinstalling Rdr2 on the discs. Got stuck at 49% so I tried continuing it from the store but it always says installing, even when it’s paused.
I also have a game update and I’m not sure if I’m meant to accept it when It first starts installing or wait till the games fully installed.
I’m trying re download it and it’s doing the same thing

Insert dusc two it worked for me when it was at 1.87%
Disc 1 got to about 18 GB then it said insert disc 2. Disc 2 got me to 56.93 GB. When I put disc 1 in for the second time to finish the install, it says “your disc may be dirty or damaged” which is not true at all, both of my discs are pristine. I’ve been stuck on 56.93
have you deleted it in the last and are trying to get it again?

Same here, 1st disc installs ~10g then stops and indefinitely says "installing" without progressing any further. No messages about bad discs (mine are like new anyhow). Tried hard resetting multiple times, restarting, pause/resume with different discs and no dice.
I deleted whatever it had installed and installed the 2nd disc this time. It installed almost 50% and gave the message "We need the 1st disc to continue installing". Swapped it in and it won't install. It says "installing" but it's still stuck there. The game installed before with no problem, insert disc 1, insert disc 2, bam done, and didn't crash once since day one back then.
I can't see the disc being bad as I still have Rockstar game discs from 2 console generations ago that work flawlessly and that's with minor scratches.

Okay ive never had problems with this game, and there not scratches on either disk, but once the instillation is almost complete and it gets to 79 GB it says instillation stopped
Both of my discs are pristine. No smudges or scratches. But every time I put the play disc in to finish the download, it says 99+ hours and then the download fails

Why can't I go install it in the xbox store I bought the disc version I had it in while I went to the xbox store app tried to find red deas redemption 2 and I did but it doesn't give me the option to install it only 2 options I get is either I buy it or choose different version of the game can someone please help me with this I just want to play red dead redemption 2😭🙏🏼

I try and do this with disk in and my Xbox basically implies I don’t have it and just shows the price for every edition, I use to be able to bypass this by putting the disk in then pausing it and taking it out and installing it from the store but now it won’t let me, now it pretty much gets too about a 1.19GB then decides to stop until I resume it

I know I’m late but my problem is that it will say “installation stopped” constantly specifically to red dead and it always the same percentage and it starts downloading again and it stops again

But y’all need to go to your manage queue and then cancel the installation for red dead redemption and then you go to the Microsoft store it’s completely free you already have the disc, next you want to take the game out put it in and press install through the Microsoft store then just wait and it will work

I tried this so many times it didn’t work, apparently it was because the disc was scratched up. I know I couldn’t tell if it worked but this seems %101 this is real.
How do you get rid of scratches on a disc??
@@lockyrichardson7195Toothpaste, sounds crazy but if you apply toothpaste for 10 minutes or more and then get it off it gets rid of the scratches

Don’t know if this really helps but managed to work around this another way which was downloading and transferring my friends copy of the game to my xbox
Since it’s installed the disk basically works as the authentication that you own the game and the rest works fine.
Thanks mine was stuck at 19.24gb and when it updated (Microsoftstore) it downloaded again
Edit: (you might have to update Microsoft store more then once)
how did you install RD1 on xbox one? I have the xbox one version but it does nothing when I insert the disc.
Just connect to wifi before you enter the disc. All backwards compatible games (Bioshock, Batman, RDR1, Oblivion) need wifi before it can fully install of the system

I turned my wifi off, hard power down, unplug power cable, and turn it back on. Turn your wifi on, then eject and insert the game a few times and it will install
Clean your disk mine looked perfectly clean then i cleaned it with a microfiber rag and hot water then it started downloading properly

I have suggestion download xbox app on your phone and start instalation from phone on your console (it will downsload from internet)

I've tried all this and more. Even after Microsoft Store telling me I had to update it THREE TIMES during this process, it still won't work. I just installed this game two years ago with the same near mint discs too. I'm getting so pissed off. Why can't Microsoft offer to let you download from the store if you have the disc?

Whenever I put the first disc in it asks me to do an update if I do it it stops at 7% if I don’t do it my game downloads regularly until it gets to 74% then it stops I’ve tried restarting my Xbox hard restarting and cleaning the discs
Unfortunately you’ll have to try to download the disc and the update simultaneously, that’s the only way I could get mine to work with this issue. Like I’ve told others, I’d get it digitally. It was just on sale in the Microsoft store for like $20-something dollars and I haven’t had an issue yet. With the disc after you solve the problem, if there is an update for the game afterwards there is a high probability that it will make you reinstall the disc for some reason
Mine stopped at 82 says to put the 1st disc in but when I do it just stops installing and it's a brand new Xbox I got yesterday so I have enough space

My problem isnt the disk but the update. The first disk installed just fine but the additional updates are stuck
mine just says its installing. my first disk stopped at 45 so i put my second one in and that worked perfectly. but when i put the first one in again it just wouldnt go past 95. i went to see if there was an update but there isnt one. please someone help. ive always wanted to play this game but now i cant :(

Idk what to do. I had this installed on my Xbox years ago. Just tried to reinstall. It kept stopping all day long but I finally got it I think. I put it in low power mode and left it. But when I came back it said everything was done and I could play. It never even asked for the second disc. What am I supposed to do with the disc, am I losing out on something?

ur a life saver dude i had uninstalled my game ti have some space a fee months back and i wanted to play it now so i went to install it and the 1 disc came to 2.57 gigs and the 2 came to like 70 and then it stopped and now its workin perfectly
For those struggling with this shit... this worked for me: I asked a friend if he could lend me both data and game disc, because he had installed the game perfectly, at once. I put the Data Disc and it got installed; I put the Game disc and it got installed as well!!!
I believe that the problem resides in the game version, specifically in the box itself; there are game boxes with 2 disc compartments (my friend's) and single boxes where both data and game discs share 1 compartment. I hope this info is useful for you guys!!

@@aldair5759 I don't know if you tried this or not but this is what I did...
- insert the disc
- cancel the download
- go to the store (because the disc is inserted it will say you own the game and will give the option of installing)
- select install
- the update will install over WiFi while the game installs via the disc.
If that doesn't work, I've also heard you can fix it by deleting local save games to remove any corrupt save. You could also try going offline in system settings and then downloading the game without Internet so the update doesn't interfere. Good luck I hope it works!

@@dehydratedwater8902 , I gave up. Getting a used Gaming Computer and just run the PC version. My Xbox is now a useless brick.
so i was downloading rdr2 on my xbox and it got to about 56% and then stopped, saying i need to inster disc 1 to resume installation. so i put in the disc and it’s still saying that, i’m not sure what to do
Try putting in disc 1, then after it says it again put in disc 2. Mine did that sometimes, I’m not sure why

The data disc for me stops at 23GB I have cleaned it on my shirt twice still stoped and no scratches or smudges that I have seen anyone else have that problem

@@fishinggod9797 you have to eject it right when you're hearing the sounds of like your system trying to read the disc and then put it back in and it should work I've done that and it worked you have to do it like right before it starts to crash but like right when you hear those sounds eject the disc and then wait a minute and put it back in It worked for me
