That would definitely explain some of the characters especially the little demon Reaper girl that has the same energy in my opinion of the forest Guardian from Spooky's jumpscares
It's funny how much of what's taken as innovations compared to King's Field are things that Ultima Underworld already did in 1992 when it gave birth to this entire subgenre of fpv action rpgs and incidently also became the prototype to what people call 'immersive sims' today
Hey, thanks for the comment :) The reason I focused on the differences between King's Field and Lunacid rather than Ultima Underworld is because Lunacid is directly inspired by KF. And while KF certainly took influence from Ultima Underworld (and the real-time dungeon crawlers that came before Ultima Underworld like Eye of the Beholder and Dungeon Master), both KF and Lunacid are very different experiences by comparison. Also, if you're interested in those older dungeon crawlers, I talk more about that stuff in this video on Wizardry and its influences: th-cam.com/video/zAuqTHGYIng/w-d-xo.html
I've been following the game since Kira first dropped it in Early Access, and I've been looking forward to the full release the entire time. I can't wait for whatever Kira does next, once they're done with Lunacid.
King's Field did have charge mechanics though, so not sure what's being repackaged or whatever here. The bow shots could be charged, and melee weapons were less effective if you attacked before stamina goes back all the way, I think? It's just, you had no parry mechanics and enemies were somewhat braindead so the main threat came from their placement
The charge is manual in Lunacid and there is no stamina bar like King's Field. So instead of attacks and waiting for the bar to recover for the full attack damage like in KF, in in Lunacid you hold down the attack button to increase its strength then let go when the bar fills. It's almost like the inverse of KF's system, and much faster.
youtube algorithm is wild, i installed lunacid yesterday on my steamdeck cuz i wana check it out during this coming weekend and i see this video funny how things are!

3:49 - graph paper is a classic. The fire sword and that axe at the 5-minute mark look so sick. Also, what a GET for the intro voice actor. The only thing that concerns me is the lack of a giant two-handed mace, but no game is literally perfect. Still loving this format. 🖤

Biggest problem with the game is the difficulty curve. It starts off reasonably high, peaks around the 3rd-ish area, and then drops off a cliff. It actually doesn't even matter what playstyle you choose; melee, ranged, or magic, they ALL become overpowered by the castle stage. The best way to solve this would have been to design more aggressive and dangerous enemies for the later stages, and to implement strong diminishing returns on attributes just like most From-Souls games have.
^ This person right here is extremely correct. Hollow Basin was pretty chill, a perfectly reasonable tutorial area. Silent Temple was extremely stressful and fairly difficult, but after beating my head against that wall long enough it eventually broke and the difficulty dropped sharply, and kept getting easier as I progressed.
After downloading this game yesterday and playing it for a good long while around 8 hours I will say this game kind of fulfilled a niche that I never knew I had for a very long time. This is a Dungeon Crawler and you are going to get confused you are going to get lost and that is perfectly okay.
