  • Sharing how I gave my old patio doors a makeover with some cheap contact paper, spray paint and, tape! I applied the contact paper with windex to eliminate all bubbles! Love this HACK! It cost me under $50 to complete and only took a few hours to do! It's a simple and fast makeover with a bold statement! Also love how the light filters trough the frosted glass now. Hope this inspires you to transform your old sliding doors or windows!

    The company has actually stopped selling it so that's why the link wasn't working. I found the same one here - amzn.to/48WldlI Should be the same unless the company started making it different. Looks pretty similar to me. It's just clear adhesive contact paper.

    Thanks!! I did this in my apartment and was able to take down the ridiculous vertical blinds and it's amazing how it not only opened up the room, but it also looks fantastic. I get tons of compliments on them and everyone is amazed that I did it myself 🙂

      I am watching this BECAUSE I despise vertical blinds. And cannot afford curtains or to put holes in my wall.

I like how you can change it in the future, I see all these trendy sub decisions popping up here (Utah) and can’t help but wonder if we’ll see them in 20 years and be like “oh yeah that’s a 20’s house for sure” haha. Hello, could you please tell me what thickness the tape is?

  • @jonathanmarquis866
    @jonathanmarquis866 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    LPT you could have skipped taping off the windows and use a razorblade to clean the windows up when done. works great and saves time as you need to go over the window with a blade anyways before you wash them when prepping for the contact paper.

    I've used clear contact on a kitchen window once but the only contact plastic film I could find was too clear to get a blocking effect so I used the rough scrubbing part of a kitchen sponge to VERY SLOWLY scratch the film to get a frosted effect. I guess you could do the same with ultra fine sandpaper, I just didn't have any laying around.

    I like this idea a lot but I'm just curious to know what it might look like from the outside.

  • @rosale8533
    @rosale8533 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello! This is a great DIY! I know others have asked questions about the outside, but I have one that is a bit more specific. Did the frames on the outside show signs that you painted them on the inside? I have a condo where the HOA does not allow us to have our exterior windows differ from any our neighbors. I love the look of black frames from the inside though.

    What does it look like when the door is open can you see the white overlap from the part of the door behind the glass?

    • @firemedia8922
      @firemedia8922 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since it’s frosted it’s unlikely you’d see that unpainted middle piece. That said, you can look up how to remove the sliding door section completely to spray every part of the frame if you’re going for all black and don’t want to frost or just want to transform the entire thing inside out.

    I love this DIY hack super cute. I am going to do this one too. Quick question: this was inside, what about outside? Also when you slide the door open you will see the part not painted?

    • @diylilyardor3435
      @diylilyardor3435  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do both sides it'll just take more time. The other side shows gray tape not black. and yes it's silver on the outside. Glad you loved it!

    What type of contact paper, though? The link doesn't work for Canadians, and this looks like laminate for paper, but it's not totally transparent/clear? Wish you had mentioned what product was used :)

    Looks nice! but if your all thumbs on a project like this, as another way is just tape thin strips where you want space (clear glass.) Then spray 2 light coats of frost spray all over the glass. After about 15 to 20 mins. Remove the tape.

    How many rolls did you use? What size are your doors? Unfortunately, Amazon has raised their prices considerably..these items are about $4-5 higher now..would be a $60 project for me..not including the now $12 tape (was $8)..just to update..

    Great video. But think about all of the black paint that you found on your floor, and now remember that it is also sitting in your lungs. Since you were inside and the doors and windows were closed, you got a concentration of black paint/fumes in your lungs. Please, next time use a simple respirator with paint filters on it.

    I tried this with window privacy film. I got the 1/2" gaffer's tape/black. I did this today. The gaffer's tape is SO NOT sticking to the plastic film! I have done 2 of 4 doors and realize I need to find another tape to use. Right now I am looking at it peeling off and hanging from the door. All that work for this mess! How did you get the gaffer's tape to stick or maybe on frosted glass it adheres better.

    • @diylilyardor3435
      @diylilyardor3435  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      sorry to hear this is a struggle. Did you use the windox method to apply the film? If so I would give it a week to dry before apply the tape. It's still trying to release any moisture and that could explain the tape not sticking.
      I didn't have any problem with the tape sticking however I did wait about a week before I put the tape on.
