  • Sometimes you can't predict the outcome of a first contact.
Sometimes things go well, sometimes the species wants nothing to do with the Federation, and sometime you accidentally unleash an ancient evil upon the Delta Quadrant.
The Vaadwaur may not have been the nicest species in history, but after their suspended animation, now their wrath is only distilled.
This is the Cultural Index a series aimed at exploring various Science-Fiction species.
For outsiders to a series to get to know the basics and maybe even hardened Sci-fi nuts might discover something new.
    Thanks for watching!

The awoken Vaudwaar are outraged, and lead a rebellion. They rebuild their empire, and Star Fleet runs into them 20 to 30 years after Voyager.... Nope, they filled it with some temporal war and a trek into a space-bending expanse with their own aliens that had nothing to do with the future (TOS) universe and beyond. And woke up still thinking it was just yesterday their homeworld was being bombarded to dust. So even few in number. Rebuilding in such a short time and yet all for war. I can see it.
Think about freezing a World War 2 soldier...oh...Just think of Captain America. Best example really. Waking up to a new world where they aren't fighting. Yet still very much a fighter and willing to fight.
That is basically the Vaadwaur. Yet instead of at least ATTEMPTING in adjusting. Decide to just go to war with nearly everyone.

I hope these guys turn out to be the main bad guys in Star Trek: Prodigy. This would give Hologram Janeway a painful emotional connection to the Protostar’s crew as the Vaadwaur is most likely the reason for the crew’s miserable childhoods and imprisonment on the mining world of the pilot episode.

I would think the crew of the Voyager would have provided the means especially the transwarp technology to reach the Delta quadrant due to the multiple decade long time skip up until 2409

Pretty much, it's a bit of a long story but to be brief an ancient iconian Gateway was found on the new Romulus colony, which, lead to a Dyson sphere on the borders between the Alpha and delta quadrants.
While the alpha quadrant Alliance was attempting to secure this sphere from the voth (long story), a second gateway was found, this led to a second Dyson sphere deep in the Delta quadrant which led to the alliance establishing a foothold in the Delta quadrant to make new Alliances and overall case the joint.
Getting deep into the story now but the primary motivation of the alliance is the Threat of... a shadowy old enemy, which has actually been the benefactor of the vads.
STOs storyline is absolutely bonkers but I love it.

I would love if Star Trek had a villainous species that preferred cheery colors rather than the constant invoking of "enemy" real world cultures and drab browns. Or why not a colorblind species that was jovial as all get out but fine with greys and muddy browns?

I think STO got it mostly right. I also believe that real trek would have a break away faction that wanted a peaceful future and that Starfleet would support that faction in some way. Nu-trek would have Starfleet betray everyone involved for flimsy, nonsensical reason.

1:10 - I've always thought the Vaadwaur design is too similar to that of Cardassians. Sometimes designers are lazy. ¬_¬
5:28 - They're more like the Eurondans from _Stargate SG-1_ . There's a lot of aspects in common between the _Voyager_ episode "Dragon's Teeth" and the _Stargate_ episode "The Other Side". The waking up from stasis, the being under attack, the xenophobia/superiority-complex, the advanced technology… 🤔

Having played through the STO Vaadwaur/Kobali story arc, the Vaadwaur need a different arc, because you're not supposed to side with the Space Nazis.....but there is absolutely no way to hold Starfleet in anything but utter contempt for their actions. The Vaadwaur may be bad guys, but that arc went way too far.
