    Let me start by saying good work, that's a beautiful knife.
    I was a professional chef and have been in the kitchen off and on for 30 years.
    There's a couple of things I would like to have seen you do differently, the heel of the blade and the bolster, both for knife control and comfort.
    Let's start with the handle, when using a proper pinch grip you have to punch the blade between your index and thumb, and with the handle material that far away from the blade it would be uncomfortable to hold for extended periods of time and it would affect my grip on the handle .
    The second is the profile of the heel of the blade, you have a curve instead of a sharp right angle, that could lead to instability at the end of a cut and it could throw the chef off enough and make for improper knife cuts.
    With those 2 minor changes then I wouldn't have an issue dropping 400-500 on a knife like that

    • @Wildkirblet
      @Wildkirblet 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      im curious to know whether your qualm with the handle is the length of the bolster, or the shape of the bolster. i would like to start more advanced knifemaking soon and this would help me greatly

    I found your channel today and subscribed. I like a lot of different kinds of video's, but mostly of people with a passion for what they do. You may be still learning, but seem to have a knack for forging. Keep working your craft, the more you do the better you will become.
    I am a member of a dying profession, I am a watchmaker. Removing dents and polishing old pocket watch cases has taught me a few tricks. There are cylindrical green dental polishing rotary bits (dremel) that may help on area like the bolster before hand sanding. they can flatten areas, talking away high spots and leave a smooth finish. They are relatively inexpensive, especially on ebay.

      I'll look into those. I appreciate the info. I think my high school art teacher would appreciate i do art as part of my hobby/new career since all i did was sleep in her class 😅. Im the kind of guy that likes to transform or create new things from other things so this is just up my alley and I enjoy it except the handsanding. My hands hurt. Fortunately the knife making community is a very welcoming community.

    Beautiful knife, and you do a great job of explaining what you are doing, and why. I do wonder though, about the method of using wax (and I've seen others use vaseline) on the tang when gluing up the handle material, for later installation. I'd be concerned that the wax/vaseline left in the handle could impede proper adhesion of the handle to the tang. Do you do something to remove the wax from inside the handle, before finally gluing up the tang?

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. I dont have a co crete answer. Ive never had a knife handle fall off from using this method or have i heard from another maker that a knife has come loose. Ill definetly ask a few people that use this method more frequently and see what they think.

    Hey dude, that knife turned out beautiful. I loved the video too. How do you like your OBM grinder? Are you happy with it, or do you wish you would have waited for a more expensive machine like an Ameribrade or similar? Just curious because the price tag on OBM's is enticing.

    • @JPsBladeworks
      @JPsBladeworks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Im happy with it. The price tag is fair. I cant say if the other brands are superior since i havent had a chance to work with them but in my opinion it does everything needed at a great price compared to their competitors. You can always upgrade in the future as well if needed. And they have a good variety of attachments as well. Only thing i dont like is it doesnt have reverse feature on the vdf but im sure that can be added if needed.

      No, i made my own based on the one Tyrell Knifeworks made. It was more cost-effective. It's like half the price, and i take every penny i can to put back into my videos and buying materials.
