As someone who's lived in the area for 21 years:
    - Keep your car! if you want to do much outside the city it's going to be very hard to commute, and you'll be missing out on all the great outdoor activities like camping and hiking you can do miles away outside of the city
    - Housing is expensive, so if you're planning to live downtown it's doable, but it's difficult... The places that are considered "disconnected" to downtown are often the ones that are more livable, such as Renton, Kent, Lynwood, Auburn, Shoreline, and are still fairly close to downtown (20-30 minute drive without traffic)
    - The seattle freeze is real but you can overcome it! People who are more type B personalities will struggle here, but what I've learned from growing up here is that if you put in the effort to plan something fun for you and someone else, it will pay off greatly, and this applies to dating too. Be a go getter! There's lots to do here
    - Seattle is very LGBTQIA+ friendly! We have a massive pride festival here every June, and overall we're a very progressive and accepting city
Please feel free to message me if you have any more questions, I'm also a realtor based in the seattle eastside, so if you're thinking of making the move, hit me up and I can help!

But can you name many areas that are not accepting like that?
I don't meet many conservatives or classical liberals who aren't, as long as a person doesnt push their beliefs onto them.
I also grew up pretty far left wing & in alternative culture.
And yes, esp in last 10 years or so, i & many others have watched "progressives" get more & more intolerant of opposing viewpoints or beliefs let alone political values.
And i know what the false justifications & methods are: "just claim anyone is a racist, sexist, transphobic, etc without evidence or "checking my hypocrisy" ".
      Have you not

I have been talking to someone who lives in Seattle and also was pretty far left wing. Now is voting for Trump (realized that the media lied to her "for a goos cause" ).
The same far left beliefs & acting upon them - with their love of chaos & feelings & spirtual superiority over logic or evidence - have destroyed Seattle, in her words - including what was probably really good about it.

You have probably heard how Seattle is one of the fastest growing cities in the US, and think it must be wonderful here. People are coming here for one reason, high paying jobs. Now think of the effect that an influx of highly paid people has on the cost of housing. Demand leads to greed. Rents here are outrageous, home prices are outrageous, and you're also paying some of the highest taxes in the nation on pretty much everything but income. And for all that money you pay to live here, you get to see homeless encampments, and their garbage all over the city. And you'll have plenty of time to look at it while you're sitting in some of the worst traffic in the nation.

You've been a huge help in my planning and prep for moving to Seattle Rachel! One thing I've picked up on trying to find a place to rent in the city is that you need to be aggressive to land what you want. You'll find the places you're looking at get snatched up a lot quicker than many other cities and towns. There is a lot of competition.

May not be a bad idea when doing your advice videos to start segmenting things out based on the audience you're talking about. If you're younger, single, and don't have kids then living in the city in an apartment is probably a good call. If you're looking to buy a house or have kids and prefer access to outdoorsy stuff then there's plenty of good reason to live in Shoreline, Bothel, or Edmonds. I agree that you're not as "connected" to the city but they're great suburbs with a lot of perks for people who don't want the bar / restaurant scene so much.

I moved from ohio to Seattle a long time ago. I hope you have lots of money for rent and stuff. How do you feel about gloomy grey skies for months on end? Parking sucks, and traffic is really bad. Lots of druggies, drunks, homeless, and passive aggressive types. Lots of the local flavor is disappearing due to covid. The summers are beautiful, and over just like that. There is water and mountains in every direction. Very picturesque when the sun is shining. The people are nowhere near as friendly as Midwesterners. Makes sure you take your vacations in the winter. Go somewhere sunny. Unless you don’t care about sunshine. I loved and hated it there. I would live their in the summer and leave in the winter if i could figure that out. Lack of sun drove me out of there.

While I don't live in the city, I still live within the Seattle city limits. I have never driven in my life, so I always allow 1 hour and half to get anywhere. In actuality, I can get into the city within 30 minutes since the E line comes every 15 minutes and it takes about 25 minutes to get to the city. Alternatively, I can jump on the 41. Sometimes I time it perfectly and the bus comes in 5 minutes.
What also is a big plus for me is the Broadway quality shows both at the 5th and national road tours going going to The Paramount. Hence, if you are into theatre like me, Seattle has its own theatre culture. And many shows are workshoped here and go into Broadway. While Seattle is not Broadway, there are LOTS of plays. If you are not into theatre, then this may not be important. But it is to me.
I also like the college system here. While I could never pass English 1A or a math course in California, i have earned an Associates degree at Shoreline. Plus, the average student here will not write a 20 page paper like Californian students are accustomed to. English 102 may have a 10-15 page research paper, but not a mini-thesis.
I have lived here for 9 years now. Since I am a loner anyway and go to shows by myself all the time, I like it here. The rain is something you will get used to. That's why i even made a rain vlog. Lol.
As for downtown, I only like to stay in the main section. Belltown has its ups and downs. And I am not really into Belltown.
That's why I don't mind staying on the outskirts of the city. And u need to get to the Paramount, I jump on the 41 or E.
I apologize if you HATE theatre.

I was frankly ok with the "Seattle Freeze". It kept me from feeling distracted from my settling in goals back in 2000. I was starting my own business. Didn't want to feel intruded upon. I tend to thrive as a loner. So didn't mind the freeze at all. Infact barely noticed it. Ultimately connected with a co-worker and her church group.
But I fled Seattle in 2016 mainly because of the human topography of homelessness that seemed to be erupting like an incurable disease.
As somewhat of an empath it was bleeding my heart. I felt that I needed to get out of the forest to see the trees and obtain a more objective view. So I left for a while but upon returning I find it worse.
I need to stop being such a bleeding heart. But it is an ugly scene and it makes you feel like the whole city is falling apart. But after leaving for a while I actually came back hoping things had improved. But frankly its worse. I regret coming back.

I’ve lived here for about 7 years and from what I’ve gathered, people found their partners online or have known their spouse/gf/bf since childhood/teens. Occasionally at work, but mainly reasons above. This applies towards friendships as well. Largely, I think Seattle didn’t really have an influx of transplants coming in nor people from WA moving out until recently.

I think you're spot on when saying that if you want to be in Seattle, live in Seattle. However, I think if you are moving for a job that isn't in Seattle, but you just want to be near Seattle, consider your commute. If you have a job on the east side and you're a bit more settled and just want a nice quiet place to live, it might not be worth the commute. For example, I purposefully found a job away from Seattle (Bothell) so that I could live near seattle if I wanted to go there, but could also find a quiet suburb with a short commute(Mill Creek). For me, I didn't want to be in the city. With that said, if you are wanting to be in Seattle, try to find a job in Seattle if you can. Living in Seattle and commuting an hour or more to everett for work will not be fun. BUT, if you have to find a job outside of seattle, go against traffic. Meaning, going north in the morning and south in the evening won't be too bad. Going towards seattle in any direction in the morning and away from Seattle in the pm will be a terrible commute. Also, just stay away from 405. Even going from bothell to Bellevue, which is like 15 miles can take 1.5 hours easily in the morning.
