    Moving on your own can be scary! I moved to NYC with no job and not knowing anyone 11 years ago and I honestly hated it for the first year. But I eventually forced myself to go exploring every weekend, I joined some volunteer groups, and made friends through work, and it got a lot easier. I grew to love it. But I will say the first year was *awful*.
    I'm moving to Seattle next month and know a total of two people, so it'll basically be the same thing, where I'll really have to put myself out there again. But knowing I've done it before, I know I can do it again. And so can you! Even if it's not in Seattle! 😊

    It was nice listening to your perspective. Although I moved to Seattle some months before Covid. For a period after Covid I wanted to move back home cuz I didn’t really like Seattle but then I started making more meaningful friends…meeting other black folks is still a challenge but now I like Seattle. With all that said, I still see myself moving back home eventually but not because I don’t like Seattle but because I want to be close to family 🙌🏿. Thank you for your insight!!!!

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience, especially since it's through the lens of a fellow black woman. Living on your own is no joke when you don't have any pillars of support physically there. Other than that, I admire your will power to step into the unknown 🫶 I'm planning on moving there in about a year's time & have been researching on what the vibe feels like long term. I've visited there once for about a week or so in 2021 summer and absolutely loved it. The true test is when I actually get there 🫠

      Thank you so much for your comment! Yes! Of course, every places has its pros and cons. Also it's so valid to be upset about an item. It especially resonated with me and makes sense for that time in your experience where you were feeling really UP... and then like, Wow, what a harsh wake up call. It's like you were tested that day you got your package stolen.

    Thanks for the insight!!! Love the feedback. Very helpful. I was wondering if you could share some feedback on the overall cost of living in Seattle?? Is it expensive??

    • @sabriatiana
      @sabriatiana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah! Since I don’t have my car, I usually take the bus so I don’t have any calculations in regards to gas and stuff like that. I do use the bus often and the ticket I get is $2.75 one way so depending on whether I walk or not I pay that twice. I try to walk more though. Then as far as restaurants, they can be a bit pricey in my opinion but nothing extreme. I’ve heard a lot of people say Seattle is expensive and I really think most cities can be! I think also it depends what you are looking for. I get paid $18.69 to $20.69 an hour (usually 40 hours a week) and I just needed a comfortable studio for just myself so I’m paying somewhere around $1,180 give or take a month for rent and utilities for a 420 square foot studio. Then on top of that is groceries and my other personal expenses but that’s about it if we are talking about essentials. Compared to how much I would pay back home in Sacramento, personally I’m really grateful for what I can afford here right now.

    Hi, Sabria! I am actually teaching in South Korea right now, and before you make that major move, speak with those who love it here, those who don’t like it here, people of color and those who are indifferent. I only say that because the things you are experiencing in Seattle will be amplified even more in another country like South Korea. You want to hear all sides before that type of decision is made. Blessings to you on your journey!

    • @sabriatiana
      @sabriatiana  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! Yes, I definitely need to more research. How would you say your experience there has been so far if you don’t mind me asking?

    • @MayaCarpenter
      @MayaCarpenter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sabriatiana You’re welcome! My experience has had its shares of highs and lows, and part of that is because I am a foreigner in a homogeneous country. I’ve dealt with racism, and I’ve also felt embraced. It depends on location and to whom you interact. I live in what is considered a city by Korea’s standards but to an American it would be rural. I would say prepare to be challenged by some of your idiosyncrasies because it’s not about if, it’s when. Overall, I don’t regret moving here and experiencing another culture.
