good job, i have many types of alkohol stove, one is very similar to yours, but I still claim trangia is the best - sturdy, has simmer ring, made of brass.
I built an alcohol stove with an old Daisy pellet can I had laying around in 2017ish. I used some welders' carbon felt instead of fiberglass to absorb the liquid, no spills, some screening from a tea leaf strainer to hold the felt in place. It holds 2 oz. or 60 ml of alcohol and with 1 oz of fuel will burn over 15 minutes.
I use a Zen Camps wind screen/burner that works with alcohol or solid fuel and, though not designed that way, have used a small twig fire inside. I like things that can work with multiple options.
At 76 years old, I like things that work well rather than being the lightest thing in the world. Function over form as it were.
That sounds like a seriously impressive stove. I love some DIY camping gear and like you say, function over form is what is important.
@RamblingOn if you're not sure, you shouldn't eat it. I'm pretty sure but would have to be there to be 100%. My mom loved watercress salad. We would go to a spring to get it.
It's been named the monkey boy stove. I go by the name monkey boy on the bushcraft uk forum, and back in 2006ish I designed this stove to be used in conjunction with the bcb cook set. I wanted to use alcohol in the stove component instead of hexi blocks or fire gels as it's cheaper. Back in 2008 I went to a bushcraft meet in Sussex where I showed my little idea off to everyone at the meet, Neil was one of the guys that I showed it to and he ensured that the credit was due to me on his video. Anyway, a few days after that meet it was posted and shared on the forum by a member called Kepis. Everyone around the country was making them and eventually found its way onto the US forums, it's a bit overwhelming if you ask me. So thats the story of how the monkey boy stove came about. I've been using a Trangia for over a decade now, it's my go to stove. I love the simplicity of your stove. The simpler it is, the less chance it can go wrong. Happy New Year!

I did almost the same thing but I use the welders carbon felt as the filler for the tin. It took several pieces and that depends on the thickness of the felt you get. The felt will lay in the tin so you don't need that screening if you don't want to use it. I like you UCO Candle. Been using one of their brass one's since the early 1970's.
The carbon felt sounds like a proper job.. I've been looking at those lanterns for a long time, I finally just bought one. Hopefully I will have mine as long as you have yours 🤞
@@RamblingOn ... Won't say they ( the UCO Lantern ) lasts to long , so far it's only 52 years for mine. It's Brass and I take care of it , let you know in another 52 if I'm still around , probably not. 🥴

The loft insulation used needs to be Rockwool which doesn't melt or catch fire. Don't use fibre glass as it will easily melt. Good safety advice, Meths CAN be extinguished by water though. Thanks for posting.
Fibreglass and rockwool both melt at very high temperatures. Rockwool has a higher melting point, which to be fair means it would be a better option.
I wouldn't throw water on meths though. Fuel fires spread when water is used as an extinguisher. I wouldn't chance it myself.
Smothering the flame is the best option I reckon when there's no fire Co2 or powder extinguishers around. Cheers for watching 🍀

Smothering with the tin lid is best, but I'm a retired fire officer, trust me ( or google) when I say meths is a polar solvent, meaning is does in fact mix with water, unlike petrol for instance. I have a trangia alcohol burner. Do you think i can get away with that and tent pegs in most situations when cooking water ? I do have a windshield
Yep I don't see why not and if you wanted to use a pan it would work too. Spread the pegs out a bit wider and it will provide a nice stable platform for the pan. I've done that myself

How long will it burn for with a full fill of terps .?
Also do you need to empty it of fuel when finished ?
It'll burn long enough to boil a cup of water depending on the outside temperatures and temperature of the water.
I wouldn't recommend transporting it full of fuel but if there's some left inside from a previous burn, it won't be a bother. Just make sure the lid is tight and it's always good practice to transport an alcohol stove in a zip lock bag.
Cool I like this little stove it would make a great back up stove when say my gas stove packs in on a multi day trip .like the tent peg idea .simple and sweet will aluminium pegs work or will they melt ??
@rufusduck71 I'd say aluminium pegs would work just fine. Most of my pots and pans are aluminium, so it should be grand
