Today on Swapology we put an LS7 intake and port injection setup on a Gen 5 L83 Engine. This video covers some of the differences between LT and LS engines (not all of them of course!) as well as the installation of some trick ICT Billet pieces to allow Gen 4 LS7 Intakes to be installed onto an LT engine!!

Same and I still believe it can be done by any garage builder that can properly weld aluminum with a Tig ( a Tig is almost mandatory these days for any garage ) don't see why you couldn't cut the LT oil pan mounting flange off and a front sump LS mtr and weld them together and fill/ massage any clearance issues . To solve the pick up tube problem should be as simple as swapping to a LS oil pump on the LT mtr allowing you to runs a LS front sump pick up ? Or simply cutting the stock LT pick up point between pump and tube off and making your own front sump pick up by either melding the LS pick up to the LT pump flange or by sectioning the original LT pick up to go straight down into front sump ? Obviously it would take some planning and work but it's certainly possible!

I'm watching with bated breath. My friends got a Hyundai Genesis coupe he wants to put an LS in. After seeing your Instagram post I've been trying to talk him into doing an LT. This video might be enough motivation. I can't wait to see what you do with the front sump oil pan. 👍

Awesome video and info. I think you should run the engine on an engine dyno and see the out put of the engine. It may produce similar or less or more power. If it produces similar or more power than you don’t have to go through the headache to design a new harness for the LT.

For swaps that don't mind the extra weight, the new GenV L8T iron block and OEM forged stroker crank bottom end topped off with Gen3/4 Cylinder heads will be the ticket with the block only needing head dowels moved up/down to match the LS heads.

Amazing information. I've been planning an LS swap into my BRZ for a while now but have really been toying with the idea of going Gen V and swapping in an LT4. This video does a great job at showing a lot of the small differences I'll need to take into account if I decide to go for an LT instead of an LS. Pretty much buy a kit for LS or fabricate my own for the LT since no one is really making them for the 86 platform yet.

Since the gen 5 heads will bolt to a gen 3 or 5 block, personally I would like to see a kit to adapt the high pressure pump to the gen 5 block as well. Gen you can have vvt and direct injection with a gen 3 or 4 long block.

Perhaps a potential user of a Gen5 motor needs to know initially most of all is how does the Gen5 compare to the Gen4 in physical size when fully dressed.. Is the Gen5 bigger/smaller in length, width and height with all the accessories fitted including exhaust manifold, a/c, alternator etc? One of the great things about the LS was its small size compared to its displacement.

  • @zackthomas5707

Have yall done any pulls on this motor yet with the factory gdi injectors installed in the bores the way it is now or did yall swap them for the plugs you mentioned before or planning to when the full dod delete is done? Apologies, if I missed it in the video. Reason I ask is those injector nozzles are pretty stout, but they rely on the fuel being injected for cooling and can and most likely will overheat if you push it. Papadokis racing did a similar test with a new gdi Honda, bypassed the gdi for port fuel injection and left the factory gdi's installed the exact same way and blew a nice hole out the top of one of the injectors. Lol Luckily, the intake was offset from the injector if I recall correctly and they didn't blow a hole in the intake as well, but could be a mess with this one if that happens. I'm sure y'all got it figured out, but figured I'd throw that out there to save on some wallet and headache just incase. I don't know jack crap about gen 4 and later models like yall, but I been tinkering with my gen 5 l83 since I bought the truck new in June of 2014 and been trying to learn all I could about it sense. Finally got the full 12000 page service manual from GM on the 2014-2015 models a couple years ago. Still can't believe how much goes into the design of these things.. If yall or anyone doesn't have it and need it, I can get it to you. No charge. It came on a cd, but I got it copied to a pdf on my drive. Not sure how i could send it, but I can figure it out if anyone needs it.

I’m doing a 61 vette with a 5gen LT4 supercharged out of a 2018 camaro. I ve been told the 10 speed auto trans will not work without cutting up tunnel on car. Ive been told they like to use 4L70 TRANS for size reasons. And I will not have to modify tunnel.
With top mount bolt hole offset, will 4L70 trans bolt up otherwise?
    Thanks

I have a L83 and I’m searching for a budget oil pan for my swap. I’m installing the L83 in a third gen camaro is there any pan other then the expensive Holley? I actually found something on eBay I’m just not sure it will work based off what you explain, it’s listed to fit a lot of LS and the seller claims it will fit the L83 but you know how returning something online can go so I’m scared to spend my money.... any suggestions??? Also what about a fuel pump that will work? Is the Aeromotive 340 a good buy?

So technically I should be able to swap my L96 6.0 block for a newer L8T 6.6 block in my restomod Regal. .......Or perhaps put an LSA blower on a 6.6 L8T motor and get Big boy power with Big boy torque. This logic should work if you can put LS intakes on the LT blocks, Right?

Cool! I just got a cheap L83 to play with and the adapter plates and LS7 intake showed up today. Wondering how tuning with the high compression and port injection will be...gonna have to cut some timing or go thicker head gaskets to lower compression.

    • @chipcurrey653

They have the same compression ratio as the LS7, but the ability to cut more cylinder pressure with variable cam timing, so I think it will work great.
