    About 3 years ago I pulled the intake off an L83 5.3 and fell in love. Bought some heads. Thought this is the perfect 4.8/5.3 ls head swap. Holley had port injected high-rams available. Cam Motion then said $850ish for a lets-get-started billet grind.I realized I don't have r&d money, and moved on. Glad to see you guys are making it happen. Lt heads on ls 4.8/5.3's is gonna make hp

    Dude!!! That’s awesome. In 2016 when I pulled the first head off a new corvette I was like these engines are gona make so much power and first thing I wanted to do was slap some gen 5 heads on a LS3. Now that can be done. Awesome!!!!

      Same, but man what a pain in the ass. All the conversion parts needed, must be a pretty hard to find parts. I never heard of anyone selling genV headers that fit my Camaro running the GenIV engine.

      GenV Bolt-On life is sweet. For the typical N/A build, it literally takes nothing more than a set of long tube headers and possibly exhaust, an LT2 Intake Manifold from a C8 Vette (cheap and always available, 1-3% worse than an MSD that costs TONS more), a camshaft and springs and maybe a throttle body upgrade if you are feeling generous. The LT1 is a monster, even in stock form and requires very little to 'wake it up'. Direct Injection and LT Cylinder heads are the magic icing on the cake. High compression and awesome aftermarket-type flow from OEM heads. If you think the OEM LS heads are good, just think of the difference between a SBC Vortec Head (the best late OEM head) when compared to an LS Cathedral Port...... and it's literally the same when comparing that LS1 head to an LT1 head again.

    I had no idea this was even a thing! Wow. More to look forward to when I get another 5th gen Camaro. The LS3 is an amazing motor but full bolt on you’re basically limited to 500ish whp max. This definitely adds the bump it needs.

    I can't wait to get a Gen 5 powered vehicle to build. After reading about the L8T I really want to get a 2014-2018 RCSB and pull the L83 and swap in a L86 or L8T with some better internals, heads, cam, and Whipple or maybe the Escalade V supercharger is it becomes available at a reasonable price.

    Is it possible to put the Ls family head on the gm 151 engine (iron duke), which is basically half of an lt v8 small block?

    • @briantooleyracing3554
      @briantooleyracing3554  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no clue, but the bore centerlines on the iron duke would need to be close to the LS/LT/SBC 4.400", and I'd bet it has a far narrower centerline than that.

    Holley is supporting the L86 with the Terminator now. I wanted to build a competition ski boat engine with a larger cid (i.e. 427) LS short block, and the goal was to make an torque gorilla that made peak torque around 4000-4200 rpm, is that something you would offer a cam for? or would be possible to put the stock L86 heads on an LS block? I'm thinking a factory longer runner intake would be best for this application, but I'm open to suggestions. The idea would be to build an engine that would produce north of 550 ft lbs of torque at a peak of 4000-4200. The current marine (ILMOR) 6.2 with direct injection produces 479 ft lbs at 4200. I'm thinking that by taking the bore to 4.125" and the stroke to 4.00", the additional torque is a given without doing much cam wise over the stock L86 cam, but I don't know if is compatible with an LS block?

    • @briantooleyracing3554
      @briantooleyracing3554  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gen IV pistons are generally flat, possibly with a valve notch, so there's no problem installing Gen V heads on Gen IV pistons. I would never install Gen IV heads on a Gen V shortblock, so clearance is irrelevant to me.

    • @mathieusynnott8915
      @mathieusynnott8915 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not? Gen 4 aftermarket ported heads seems to have better results than LT1 gen 5. And for a guy that has a fully built turbo or supercharged gen 4 and blow up the bottom end, gen 5 can be a nice bolt on and keep stock exhaust etc...and have the benefits of a forged crank and bigger studs threaded block.
