Idk why people are saying they can’t hear, I can hear clear as day!
Loved the video ! Thanks !
I’ve never met a string quilt I didn’t like!
I’m the lucky caretaker of an actual 1930s string quilt. The fabrics are absolutely enchanting. (And your examples capture that color palette really nicely!)
Thank you for this video. I love making these blocks. With the muslin back it makes for a substantial quilt. Here in Florida I use flannel on the back, no batting. The finished quilts wash really well, hardly any shrinkage.
I think scrap quilts are the loveliest of all, they make a house a home yet their patterns when complete are not simple but are complex and enchanting. I would like another video on making a scrap quilt with sashing between blocks. Your quilts are so very beautiful.
I’m in an exchange on FB in a quilt group. We’re making string quilt blocks to exchange. Should be fun. Thank you for the great tutorial.
This seems like a very easy and fast way to make a colorful quilt . Your presentation of the process was easy to follow as well. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, I am inspired, I think I can make my daughter a two-sided table runner for Christmas. Christmas fabrics on one side and black and white on the other, or maybe red and white on the one side, for Christmas and Valentine’s Day, or……
I could hear this just fine. Very well done video, I appreciate that you premade samples of all the steps. I will subscribe to see more!
Girl, you are fantastic! I'm glad you popped up! Where have you been all my life? Thank you
I looked all afternoon for your tutorial. Thank you so much! I agree, it was difficult to hear you. but very easy to understand your instructions. Thank you so much!
My head is swimming. Going from English Paper Piecing, cutting hexies, cutting papers, stitching everything by hand, to THIS?! What a breeze! Omg. Can’t wait to start one of these.
My mother-in-law made string quilts and taught me to make the blocks on old catalog pages. It is a very old quilt design. I’m thinking it is from the Depression era. Yes, a great way to use up scrap strips. Lots of fun too!
Your quilts are beautiful and great presentation, thank you so so much!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Lovely video.
Can you please do a video on how to proceed once all the strips are sewn to the muslin foundation.
So many beginner questions… how are the squares sewn to each other? Do you then use a batting layer and a backing layer? How do you binds the quilts etcetc?
I am a complete newbie and don’t know anything about quilting but want to learn how to do this.
The Tilda fabric is awesome. I just backed mine with a white sheet. I love soft cotton fabric...
One of the best videos on string quilting. Extra tread and bobbin ideas great. So do you use batting or is it thick enough with muslin, strings of fabric and backing?
Funny that your comment was EXACTLY what I was thinking! LOL! I'd think batting would be optional, but let's see what she says....
I have used batting in every string quilt I have made. It does make a bit heavier quilt, but I use Dream Cotton Request to keep it lighter. However, you could layer it without batting if you want. It would be more blanket-like rather than quilty.
I do this!! Mine are kinda by "themes". Picnic, reds, yellows, sunflowers, browns, animals etc. I love doing it. 🧵🪡♥️
One of my very favorite kinds of quilt! Thanks.
A QUILT ..made with scaps..IS A MEMORY COLLECTOR..like a personal diary of the times we were groing up with our own chidren..and grandchildren..lovely.
Can hear it just fine. Love it all. Thank you. Beautiful.
Love the light ones
My girlfriend and I used to make those, I need to get back to it, using baby flannel prints ! thanks for the reminder of how to make them.
This is great and I love all your scraps!
Thanks so much. I really enjoyed watching your tutorial. I look forward to trying this pretty, scrap busting design in the future. Loved, loved, loved all of the quilts you shared with us.❤
I totally can see this in dark flannels. Mmmm, so cozy. Thank you.
This looks fun and interesting. Thank you for sharing your ideas with us ☺️
😊
Love the calming effect reminds me of sewing Bobbie
I love your versions of the string quilts. You have a wonderful gift of choosing the fabrics you pull for these quilts. Lol, and I’m definitely not new to quilting and I seldom use precuts. Well, that’s not exactly true. I use my own supply of (the ones left over from my quilts).
Honestly these are gorgeous quilts.
Thank you!
@@prairiepointquilts do you wash your muslin first.
@@joycesandifer8821 yes. Definitely.
Very lovely what a wonderful idea great for a beginner. Thank you so much
When you have leftovers of the leftovers, use double-sided fusible web. Iron them on randomly, then iron onto a fabric square. Then you can use them to practice hand or machine quilting. After that you can add a binding and turn it into a hot pad or mug rug.
Julia Kovacs Great idea!
That’s a great tip, thanks
Such a beautiful quilt. I think my next quilt will be like this. This looks like a very fun quilt to make. Thanks for sharing your video with all of us. ❤️New Subscribers, I will definitely be back. ❤️❤️❤️
And nice to go back to each block and see all the old fabrics you used and where you used it before. Brings a lot of memories back for me. Love the whole idea of a string quilt.
You explained this beautifully! It always looked too daunting for me, but I have been searching for an easy scrap busting quilt and so glad I found this tutorial! Thank you!
Pretty colored quilt. Very rich looking. Like the idea of tying together.
Amazing. Such beautiful talent. If you keep showing me how, I might could make one square!!
I like that pattern
You could use the leftover scraps in a crumb quilt. By the way, my volume is fine. I'm on my tablet. Your instructions are awesome. Thank you for sharing. God bless.😊❤❤
Absolutely beautiful
First time seeing you. Love string quilts. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice. Such a wonderful way to use strings.
What a fun wedding or graduation gift this would be!
Thank you so much for this great video. Your demonstration and instructions were very clear. I was in lockdown until last week and now I feel like I’ve been to a class! I love the colours of your Tilda quilt . I’m definitely going to make one of these quilts. Kind regards from me in Australia.
I'm new at this but I have to say these 2 that you showed are I think the prettiest I have seen, And simple for me to learn. I haven't made one thing yet and I get a little more confident and encouraged each time I see some simple instructions. Thank you and so glad I saw you here this evening.
That is so wonderful to hear! It really is so simple and fun. (:
This is a great way to use scraps, it is fun, and it looks so pretty! I love it!
Very nice. I enjoyed watching and it gave me plenty of ideas.
Just love these quilts! Have been planning to make one for awhile now. Thanks for sharing the tutorial ☺️
This is one of the most beautiful quilts that I have ever seen, I will be attempting to make this soon. Thanks so much for your detailed easy-to-follow instructions. Very talented lady
Loved those fabrics u had in the demonstration squares. The fabrics had a vintage look. They reminded me of the 1930s & 1940s.
You made this look so simple and easy. Can't wait until I start. Thank you so much. I will be following you with excitement. Thanks again.
I really love this video! I’ve been wanting to make a quilt like this and it was really helpful thank you!
That’s ui
You prolly dont care at all but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account??
I was dumb lost my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Remington Nathaniel instablaster =)
Thank you for the encouragement. I have nothing but time in isolation due to the Pandemic 😷
What a great tutorial! I plan to make a string/ strip quilt next week and this video came through my feed at the perfect time. Thanks. 🧵
This was a great video! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this . Your demonstration was clear and so helpful and made me want to try this now ! ❤️👏🏻🌟looking forward to your other videos❤️
I love doing string quilts. Strings are great for almost any application.
They're so much fun!
2023 hear you loud and clear..beauty work, colors, great info
I will have to try this. My mom has made so many of these and they make beautiful quilts!
Thanks for the tutorial. This looks like it would be perfect for quilt as you go too.
Thank you. So beautiful!
This is such a fun project and I appreciate her enthusiasm and tutorial. Me too on the volume of this video., I can hear but I would like it louder. I never heard of an app. I will go looking for onr.I usually turn on the closed captioning on some channels.
The quilts and video are vey nice and helpful. I can’t wait to make one and it looks like it goes very quickly. I appreciate you sharing this. I’m retiring in November and want to make a couple of quilts for those who have touched my heart and this would be perfect.
Thank you and many Blessings to you!!!
Gloria Harrell I love these quilts too. In my experience they don’t go as quickly as I thought. I press after each addition so maybe that’s what made mine go a bit slower. Hers are beautiful for sure.
Louette Sommers I press each strip before I add a new one to it. That’s important. But I will chain piece several squares then go to press them all before sewing more strings on. I’ll work on about a dozen blocks at a time.
Prairie Point Quilt and Fabric Shop thank you. I’m sorry if I sounded like I was disagreeing with the way you piece.
I wasn’t intending to.
I really should have thought about the chain piecing. I haven’t tried that on the string blocks. Please forgive me if I sounded ugly or snarky.
@@louettesommers8594 Not at all, Louette! Just sharing some of the process. (:
Prairie Point Quilt and Fabric Shop thank you, Blessings to you. I really enjoy your channel.
Just beautiful! Im alone at this stage of my life so when it comes to Christmas, I purchase a lot of yardage. Then at New Years, I start a new quilt. Tfs.
Thank you for showing me your work and they’re very beautiful work you have done. Thank you again. ❤️👍🏻
The darker quilt is beautiful.
wow! let me tell u, u r amazing!! tks a lot for sharing your knowledge with us
I love this type of quilt!
Thank your samples are beautiful love strips method thank you for sharing your quilts are beautiful thank you
Theola 😄
I love it! I've got to try this too. Thank You!
That quilt behind you with ziz zag in the border is amazing!
Beautiful quilts, had to put my volume up to hear you, thank you for sharing xx
My volume would not get any higher...
Those are such pretty blocks/quilts! I really like the idea of placing them on muslin rather than paper. I bet it makes a very warm quilt. I’m going to have to try this with some of the Moda scrap bags I have.
I have never seen the string quilt concept before. Love the idea and can’t wait to try it. Question - if you pre wash the muslin, should your strips you sew on it be pre-washed as well? Thanks!
Note: I had no problems hearing the video.
What a great idea! I love this, I would use a sheet for the base.
You can, but the sheet is probably heavier than the muslin giving more weight to the quilt. Just know that. Thanks for watching!
Wow…I want to make one of these right away! Thanks!
Thank you for this, I’m just starting out, and this method will be perfect for me
I have made one of those. Need to get back to it. Mine went to a charity Bags of Love for children in crisis. I have a lot of flannel now from making baby things. I'll make another string-quilt out of cute baby prints.
Great idea! Thanks for watching.
I could NOT HEAR ANY of your words,!
But would LOVE to!!! T.Y.
@@elaineboucher5951 Yes, I’m sorry. I don’t know why some people can hear it and others can’t.
I do string quilts but I sew one half in one direction then the other half the opposite direction. It's sew fun to do them.
nice cutter looks super sharp. I want one
This is the one I'm using if you're interested!

I very much enjoyed watching you make this. A string quilt is in my near future. Maybe start today? But I could barely hear you even with my volume all the way up. Great video.
Yes, I agree I have enjoyed watching as well, but volume is quite low
Loved the video and my volume was fine!!! I’m going to make some because of many scraps that I have left from my Thimbleberry quilts!! Now I can admire all my favorite Thimbleberry patterns in one large quilt… Thankyou for the video 🥰
me, too...volume very low.
i could hear because i had ear buds in, but the mic needs to be closer
Love all the examples, great video.
I love doing these blocks, I use for small projects such as pillows, bags, notebook covers etc. they also make great potholders. I would like to do a quilt after watching this video. I think I will make a four patch add my batting and backing leaving the backing larger all the way around to be sashing so I can do quilt as you go technique. It is so much easier to quilt on a smaller piece of fabric and then attach the sections. Thank you for sharing.
It looks like you don't use batting. Am I correct in this assumption?
Love this block
I’m in the process of making a string quilt now. It’s so fun.
Yay! Glad you're having such a good time with it.
I absolutely love your string quilts it has put me in the mood to make one I love using all different fabric prints very country looking.
Ooooh, that's one of the best ways to do string quilts. Love it!
Beautiful 💝 Thank you!
I will be making a travel-pillow (rectangle) cover fir my granddaughter as the original cover had worn out, again!
Love these string quilts. Thank you for sharing.
thanks for showing the seaming process!!!
Yes, It was FUN! Thanks for the video! Love those wood floors, too!
This is a very easy too follow tutorial and completely answered many of my questions about how to assemble the strips. Love this
You explained this sooo good! Thank You and Happy New Year!❤
Now I know what to do with all my scraps. Thank you.
Wonderful tutorial! Thank you!
Great tutorial. Thank you.
Quick question. Does the layer of muslin make the quilt heavier? Would it be easier and lighter to sew it on a tear away foundation?
The muslin does make the quilt a bit heavier. If you can find a really cheap utility muslin that would be good. Paper can be used but the muslin is on grain and will keep the sides of the blocks from stretching out of shape since they will be bias edges. Paper will be ripped away. Does this help?
@@prairiepointquilts
Yes. That makes so much sense. I didn't consider the bias edges. That's why your the teacher❗😁
And yes looking for a cheaper muslin is a smart idea. Thanks.
Lovely quilts. Thanks for the video 😊
Thanks so much for the great tutorial and all the great ideas!
Thanks for watching!
Your quilts are beautiful, I’d like to see how you put it all together with the borders around the blocks etc.
I don’t think I’ve made one like this with borders around it but I have seen it done and it works very well.
really enjoyed watching. Thank you!
Great looking quilt, I’m a big fan of Tilda fabrics. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Thank you. Great tutorial. Given me lots of ideas. Please try to turn sound up a bit more. My old slightly deaf ears dont work as well as they used to. 💕 Subscribed.
The best colors ever!
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT,!
How gorgeous!! Must have a go love your choice of fabrics.
GORGEOUS WORK. Your color combinations really appeal to me.
