I've also noticed it makes your 10-46 strings super 'bendy' when you raise the tailpiece a tad. A good rule of thumb on many forums is that you do not want your strings making contact with the back of the bridge.
Nice to see a headstock break repair without using splines. Splines are waaaay overused by many guitartechs. When you have a decent glue surface, there is really no need to use splines. I avoid using splines as much as possible and have never had any issues with durability.
How long would that glue hold before the headstock breaks again? I kind of like the idea of splines, because chances are, it will never break again with splines in place.
My son at age 10 asked if he could take his first guitar to school and we as parents said yes . We realized the possible outcome . The teacher said they went to lunch and the door was locked. Upon return the guitar was discovered with a similar break to the guitar in the video . He was devastated . He thought His dad was gonna come down on him like a wall of bricks. We told him it was okay. That we new something could happen and that we would replace it if needed but first lets try and fix it. I glued and clamped it . I explained to him the glue was stronger than the wood and it will be all right That was in 2005 . I played it last week to check on it . Just needed new strings. He went on to be quite the player and I gave him more guitars as he grew and developed . That old guitar has done a lot now and is cherished by a few . I hope its around a while longer.
Hey Joel, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful Story and it's so good to hear that people out there repair and honor there Instruments...Best Regards to you and your family. You made my Day ...Best Regards Nik
That’s a good question 👍If possible you have to avoid that… and it’s necessary to protect the threads of the Trussrod. If there is a bit squeeze out into the Trussrod channel this will not a real issue. But better avoid it 👍Best Regards Nik
BG Nik
Thanks a lot for your feedback. In this case I decided that it's not necessary to instal splines. In a couple of week I will post a Vide4o about hoot install Splines into a broken Neck. Stay tuned. Best Regards Nik
Ah o.k yes sorry I get you wrong... The Custom Shop Logos are silk screen prints and there its "No" clear coat sprayed over . So if you clean or polish it, it can be removed accidentally.... Best Regards Nik@@grantabernathy
Thanks for shay our opinion. It's not alway necessary to make this repair with spines. In this case the crack was clean and even. In other cases it's better to work with splints. Best Regards Nik
Putting all that masking tape directly on lacquer is a very risky thing to do. I'm not sure why you needed it in the first place, but I've seen masking tape pull lacquer right off the wood.
@@AlexVonCrank Haha, tried to weaseI out, eh? Now you KNOW masking tape is meant for painting because it ... MASKS OFF where ya don't want paint! (Of course, you mean the green automotive masking tape.)
So satisfying to watch. I'm a proud owner of '97 Gibson Les Paul standard. Fantastic guitars.
Thanks a lot for your positive feedback. In my opinion the 90‘s Gibson are one on the best made and sounding Guitar. Congratulations 👍Best Regards Nik
Always love a Petrek video 💪 great work as always!
Thank you so much for watching and your kind word. Best Regards Nik
Brilliant work 👌
Thanks a lot John 🙏👍Best Regards Nik
Congratulations 👏, amazing video
Thanks a lot for saying this 🙏🕺🏻👍Best Regards Nik
This looks similar to my 1989 Gibson Les Paul Standard Heritage Cherry Sunburst (HCSB stamp in the neck-pickup cavity)
Thanks for your feedback. There were amazing Instruments 👌Congratulations. Best Regards Nik
I have a couple of vintage Les Paul’s I’d love to have you get your hands on! You do an incredible job.
Thank you so much for your positive comment Bannon. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
One way to lessen the effect of bridge bending is to set the stop tail piece higher so the vertical component of the string tension is lower.
Thanks for your Feedback Antonio. Yes this a a good way to avoid the bending of the Bridge. Best Regards Nik

Pretty top on that one.
Thanks for your feedback. Yes a beautiful Instrument indeed 🕺🏻👍Cheers Nil
Without milling and gluing in reinforcement bars, it’s a wall hanger

You should do some tutorials on your custom made tools! Your sanding beam looks intense! Lol
Thanks lot for your Feedback Patrick and for your Idea. Maybe I will make a Video about my Selfmade tools.... Best Regards Nik
Great video. You did not do the fret crowning ?
Thank a lot. Yes I did but I didn't put it in the Video.

So happy to find your videos. I will be learning a lot I’m sure! New to guitar repair and maintenance - what is that you are spraying into the pots?
Thanks a lot for your positive Feedback. You are welcome. I am using Ballistol Oil and this for decades very good Stuff. Best Regards Nik

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. That's correct if you have a clear break like this its not necessary to insure splines. Best Regards Nik
Absolutely agree on all points.

Splines replace the ratty, rotted grain and stabilize the break.

You can bend that bridge back into shape at least once. There's a Canadian; TWoodford, he has a video up on how to do it.
Thanks for sharing David. Yes Ted is amazing love his channel and his attitude as a craftsman. I will search for the Video. Best Regards Nik
Probably a dumb question, but does glue squeeze into the truss rod cavity? If so, does it have any affect on it's function?
That’s a good question 👍If possible you have to avoid that… and it’s necessary to protect the threads of the Trussrod. If there is a bit squeeze out into the Trussrod channel this will not a real issue. But better avoid it 👍Best Regards Nik
Hi Petrek, lovely work! What spray do you use to lube the pots if I may ask? :)
Thanks a lot for your positive Feedback Ivan. I use Ballistol Oil. Best Regards Nik
@@petrekguitars THanks a lot, man! I use Ballistol on my knives and I honestly didn't know you could use their spray to clean the pots - 11:57

arent you going to reinforce the broken neck by putting wood imbedded on it? thats not strong enough,, wood splines
Thanks a lot for your question. I normally do that but in this case it’s not necessary from my point of view. Best Regards Nik

Why not do that to a Custom Shop?
Thanks for your Feedback. It doesn't matter the work and the effort is the same. Best Regards Nik
Thanks for the reply. I enjoy your content. When polishing the head stock in this video, the captions reads “Don’t do this on a Custom Shop Gibson”.

Thanks a lot for your Feedback. Yes this can be a problem therefore you have to use only light adhesive tape for this process. Best Regards Nik
😂 It's not normal household masking tape, bro. They use painter's tape or similar. It's super low adhesive and used by luthiers worldwide.
@@AlexVonCrank "normal household masking tape" IS painter's tape.
