I think silicon bodys are awesome to look at but difficult to pose and mean problems in the future. If I have to spend that amount of money in an articulated figure which can not pose I do prefer to buy an sculpture with a nice pose
The white dust is probably baby powder, because the tbleague bodies come powdered. It protects the silicone and prevents it from sticking to itself and other stuff. I usually put some extra baby powder on mine, because it makes puttin on the clothes way easier. Overall the silicone bodies aren't great for extreme poses, because the silicone might tear over time, but the skin looks very nice and (although a pain in the ass to put on) clothing looks way better than on skinny pvc bodies.
Wow those ankles are horrific! I agree the silicone body defeats the purpose if you want an action figure instead of a statue. He does look nice though. Thanks for the awesome review as usual Anthony ❤❤❤
The idea of a fully (kinda) silicone posable figure is almost pointless. You either don't get everything out of it when posing thus making it less fun, or you get too risky and tear the entire thing like your dog got a hold of it. It's a lose lose for your money and what you're getting. Not gonna go as far as to say making these figures isn't worth it. Because there's gonna be a market for them. But it isn't practical at all. Great review though and I appreciate the detail put into it.
The white powder is used to protect the silicone while in the box since the figure doesn't move at all in the package. It's annoying for sure, but it's one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situations. Warm water cleans it up or 303 spray and then the figure is set. The white stuff isn't from the silicone
@@AnthonysCustoms I don't collect a lot of seamless bodies. They all come in a powder, though. It's to protect the figure from drying out and cracking. It's only in the cracks in this figure because that's either how it was wiped or the powder just settled in the cracks naturally. All the companies do it differently. Storm Collectible's Death Adder has powder, too. It isn't noticeable but it can be felt. TBLeague figures have powder that can be seen and felt. A HotToyz collector on TH-cam that I'd have to look for wipes the HotToyz powder off and applies his own. The most extreme case is Mezco's Batman 89 because it was dumped with the stuff like a sugar donut and the powder settles in the cracks. It's more obvious with Batman because of the black costume. You can see from that figure how it settles in the cracks.
@@AnthonysCustoms It's baby powder, they do a thin layer on the whole body of their figures but by the time the consumer gets them it's mostly visible in the cracks. HOWEVER, your video displayed some blemishes that did look like the silicone was tearing a little so while the powder isn't indicative of the point, what you were saying was still ultimately valid. This thing looks like a concern for longevity and even the best seamless can't be left posed without developing creases. I got the powder thing from Onesixthforum, btw, and I'm fairly confident it's true lol but I'm no expert.
I liked how the silicon body looked but I’ve only purchased one before, the sh figuarts Goku. And I will never buy one again. It was literally sitting in one single pose on a shelf because it’s to big to pose regularly and I go to move a year later and the arms are torn everywhere. Mind you this thing was put into a pose, placed onto an shelf and never touched after that for a year and it still absolutely disintegrated. So never again
I passed on this and opted for the "visible" joints on Tunshi Studios 1/6 scale Haohmaru instead . Ryu is still a nice figure , added fabric of his Gi does hinder the Articulation even further Silicone looks great, but the possibility of eventual tearing really scares me, its not like it was just seamless arms to replace but its the whole body that you cant buy anymore of since its sold out ? its just too risky for me. im good with my ShiFigarts Ryu, SF5 Storm Ryu and looking forward to your review on the Jada Toys SF Gang
I don't much care for silicone since I buy action figures to pose them. Moreover, living in the cold north means that having the material crack over time is almost unavoidable even if they just stand on a shelf. I also had an issue with the Storm Collectibles Shin Akuma where dust-like spots started appearing on the silicone upper torso area that just refuses to go away, which also soured me on the concept even though it's really only noticeable if you deliberately look for it up-close.
Storm doesn't use silicone. What you're seeing is the plasticizer leaching out of the plastic or paint. It's kinda random. You can wipe it away and prevent it coming back by putting some clear paint on... Usually.
I have never been more disappointed with a figure. It looks amazing, but I had it only a week and I could see how difficult this thing was going to be to maintain. The joints were a nightmare to deal with. Removing and changing his hands made me want to rip my hair out. And like Anthony said, the ankles are awful! Combined with everything else, it was a deal breaker. I sold the figure and i’m glad I got out of this line early.
Definitely not a fan of silicone bodies... Even before I'd ever handled one I never thought they seemed worth the tradeoff of limited (and terrifying) posing. Like you I don't mind my action figures looking like action figures, I'd much rather have that than a compromised half-measure that don't pose properly. I have been curious about 1/6 figures off and on over the years though, and a few years ago I got a TBLeague Death Dealer on sale to dip my toes in the water - the ridiculously soft silicone body was so scary to handle that I never managed to assemble the figure and its outfit, and it damn near made me swear off ever buying any 1/6 figures in the future. It's been sitting in its box ever since.
Wow, never thought you would review this. I do collect 1/6 and was tempted to get this, but passed due to the price, the feet, and head sculpt. Not fan of the lips. As for the question of the day- it depends on the figure. I do buy both seamless and non seamless bodies depending what I'm kitbashing or the design of the character that Im buying. If I remember correctly, this is Iconiq studio's first figure and this was a custom TBleague body. Hopefully on their later releases, the issues are corrected. As for the second question- I do pose my figures. I don't buy figures if they can't pose at all- looking at the Hot Toy's Spideys.
For now, the advantage of silicon is the resemblance to the characters. I am a picky about that and silicon can make me satisfied with it like statue resin. But to play in various poses, as people say here, it's scary. And several other minus that have been said in the video.
I'm not really impressed with silicon bodies myself. I had the Hot Toys Dark Knight edition Batman for years and basically never posed it because I was fearful of it splitting. And posing it anyway would often lead to unnatural bumps and such in the suit that looked stupid. It was also a dust magnet and not fun to clean. When I boxed it up for a move, I ended up not really knowing what to do with it. After it sat in its box for a couple of years I realized I didn't miss looking at it so I sold it. I do have the Mezco 89 Batman on preorder and I'm not really sure about that one based on what I've seen so far. I've just had it on order for so long that I feel like I should just ride it out at this point. I guess if I hate it I can always sell it.
I actually collect both figures and popcultureshock statues. My figures are always posed. Like you said people who own those size scale figures don't pose them. It's a must I pose haha. I was looking into buying this figure because I actually have a Emen genesis Mai Shiranui. That has the same silicone body. I have her posed sitting down. So I was really interested in seeing this. So thanks for reviewing this.
The only silicone/ rubbery figure I have is the Hot Toys Venompool and I like that for what it is. I don’t keep it posed in a way that would stress the material though.
I like the silicone look but I have it on my Imagination Works Goku and his elbows are ripped from one time of posing him. My Hot toys BvS Winder woman and I hope that doesn’t rip but I’m super careful posing her. Since I’ve had sh Figuarts and Mafex, the joints don’t bug me anymore because of the possibility
I love silicon bodies. I still think Hot Toys does it best, but my last figure of theirs that had it was Ada Wong (remember when they didn't just pump out Star Wars/Comic characters?). I have a lot of 1/6 scale video game figures and I actually prefer the realistic fabric and size vs. plastic 1/12 figures...at least in terms of gaming lines. I've never had any issues with silicon tearing or ripping, but I can see how it would in some basic poses.
I'd suggest looking at 1/6 scale posers first and then work with Ryu. The figure has way more range than it appears at first glance. There are perfect stances for Hadoken and Shoryuken with this figure and yes it's completely possible to raise the arm straight (did it my self) without any tearing risk. As for some absurd comments like "1/6 don't pose their figures" again I suggest look around 1/6 group and you all might be surprised with what is possible. not all of us use the boring museum pose 😉
You can't deny that these sorts of figures are far less posable though. And saying there is no risk of tearing this figure... Even the instructions sheet tell you there is. Silicone figures tearing has been happening as long as they've existed.
@@AnthonysCustoms sure it can happen and will still happen specially when posed in more extreme poses for longer time.
