    We are turning a spare room into a wheel chair accessable bathroom with Shower
    We just purchased a wedi shower kit 48 x 72 .We then added another foot on to it making it a 48 by 84. Used Wedi board for all of the floor and 4 ft. Up the walls
    We have found it extremely easy to work with
    Did make a few mistakes but none that could not be easily corrected
    The Adhesive and 3 inch wide membrane was laid over every seam even in none wet areas on the floor and up the walls in the shower area as well as at the base of the shower and wall
    I will agree it is a little pricey but when you consider not having to worry about mortor bed being correct, laying the rubber membrane and then painting the walls with water proof stuff
    plus the fact you can wait about two hours and start laying thinset and tileing opposed to having to wait 24 hours or so it is not that far out of range
    Will add that we also used pex pipe and sharkbite fittings for all of the plumbing again a little pricey but still cheap when doing it your self
    I did not find them until today but rather that use 90 degree elbows I would use what is called
    SharkBite
    1/2 in. Metal PEX Pipe 90-Degree Bend Support
    anywhere I needed a 90 degree
    The Wedi rep near Houston as well as The Tile Shop in Ft Worth Texas was really great with helping us
    Would use again if needed to

      I guess it is pretty randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to watch newly released tv shows online?

      Do you mind sharing how is it holding after 6 years. Is there some cracks or leaks

    I noticed from your video that no wood blocking was installed for potential future grab bars. Unfortunately, foam backer boards alone are not designed to withstand the downward forces exerted by grab bars. I have conducted extensive testing on this issue, which you can view in detail on my channel in video E21. Installing wood blocking should be as standard and obligatory as installing electrical and plumbing systems-essential for safety and reliability. Stay safe!

    Schluter stands by their word and warranties

      Maybe if it’s a small job but for bigger jobs they always find a way out of it. It’s a known thing that schluter does NOT stand by their warranty on big jobs

      WTH are talking about I’ve never had problems with shluter much less have to use their warranty 😂if you hire a professional you’d never have problems with any tile prep waterproofing in the first place

    what happens if the subfloor is not level? They never are....Am i supposed to level the subfloor before installing the wedi pan?

    • @kenhoward127
      @kenhoward127 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You also need to ensure the subfloor does not have excessive deflection. E.g. 3/4" tongue and groove plywood over 2" x 11" joists on 16" centers will be more than good enough. I'd beef up around the 5" drain opening using cross members to be sure.

      Also, to add... the Wedi reps are awesome and readily help the DIYer.

      It won't make a difference if it is slightly off. The pan has the proper slope.

    Really? Glue a bench and that will hold? I would be afraid to place my weight on an unsupported corner seat.

      Never used wedi but I've done a corner seat like this kerdi and kerdi fix. I waited a day to jumped on it (I'm 200 pounds) and I could not get it to come loose.

    How much does this all cost
    It looks expensive

    • @kenhoward127
      @kenhoward127 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'd guess this at just about $1400 - $1500. A 3' x 5' alcove shower with 8 foot ceilings (Wedi board all the way up), with the same niche, and a curb would run about $1100. I know because I just purchased it.

    These are what the industry wants to replace a good old mud pan with? They require zero skill and are a substitute for craftmanship.

    • @Noold
      @Noold 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good ole mud pans aren't very diy friendly, and when a tile shower costs 10k, you can see why people want to diy.

      Just because something isn't overly complicated or require some obscure tool does *not* mean it's not a better idea.

      As a retired Ironworker I can confirm that we no longer use hot rivets to build buildings. They have been replaced by bolts. Sometimes technology moves forward.

      And it's 5x more expensive than just using rock board. It's easier for the installer but cost the homeowner a thousand dollars more

    • @bcoldwell1
      @bcoldwell1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Labor saved offsets increased product cost. I've used a few of these and I can say the result it higher quality than my old mud pans, and seams on wedi wall board are tighter and more precise than w durock
