Well done JD and team. This is my Guitar. It’s plays like butter and sounds amazing. I only trust Jd Kustoms on all my instruments.

Is this covered under Martin warranty? I have a 2012 D18 with binding separation on both top and bottom. Would love to be able to bring it in person to drop off at or around Nashville instead of shipping it to PA or wherever
Thanks. Looked beautiful when you were done. 👍

For what it's worth, I brought my 1984 M-36 to a Martin-authorized repair shop and the guy made me pay because he said it was a neglect issue; that it was caused by lack of humidification.

Martin really need to get to grips with this common problem. My 0-18 was in the same situation 2 years ago. Unfortunately, my binding had shrunk too, resulting in the need for a small graft cut. Still. im happy now. Great job JDK

That's what you get using plastic for binding.

Its always so sad to see this happen! They are such beautiful instruments though its so hard not to indulge even with their issues...
This is great news that you got yours repaired, I am sure she hasn't given you issues since.
Thank you so much for your compliment🙂 stay posted for more!

I want a CEO-7 like you would not believe but for $3k I’m a little nervous about this binding issue. I see a lot about it like it’s one in ten. I’m not well off. Three grand is a lot of money. I own two red label Yamahas that are 53 years old and the body binding is holding on strong.

I'm just learning Martin's defective design... I'm afraid to open my case and look now at my d18... there will be hell to pay if it's falling apart.. with 3 hour's of play time on it, in a humidified case

Do you think it makes sense to splice in an extra little segment of binding on these Martins that have shrunk so much? Stretching the overly tight binding doesn't seem like it will hold.

      Hi, and thanks for watching!
In some extreme cases, we might splice in a small segment of binding, but it's usually not ideal cosmetically. Instead, we prefer to stretch the existing binding and apply gentle heat to reshape it. This method works well, especially when secured with CA glue, and so far, we've had no issues or comebacks. Great news all around!

Are the newer models still having this issue?

Nice job, but seems a bit excessive just to fix some binding

Thanks so much for your compliment Captain!
We did indeed do a lot here, the binding came off once before so we used CA glue for a really strong bond, this melts into the nitrocellulose clearcoat... So to achieve perfect results a light coat over the repair made all the difference!

I have a martin d18. My bindings have come off completely and with them some of the finish. What glue do you recommend I use to attach them? (titebond, instant CA, all-bind, canopy?) I can't find a good luthier here in the area. Thank you!

Congratulation it's a good job !!! But MARTIN guitars had very bad quality for the price. I have a OM-28 and the binding have the same problem. I live in Corsica and no luthiers for repair it on waranty.
