I haven't played this game for 25 years so can't say for sure, but it doesn't look difficult anymore. As a kid I thought some of the levels were essentially impossible.
I had this on some shovelware disc from a magazine but as a demo. Found it really, really hard. Played it the other day in browser and it wasn't hard at all. Must have been painful to watch my younger self being so bad at it. Weird to think how long ago that was and it was considered an old game even back when I played it in the late 90s
i remember clearing the first 2 worlds easil but really strugglign with the extra bounces fucking you over with pipes on the moon gravity stages later on, wasn't big on the mars gravity either, messing with the physics and feel like that really threw me off as a kid, i should try to revisit it, i think i got better at that i had the same with bridge builder/pontifex (except -10 year), then tried poly bridge and i still got my ass handed, sure i've seen all the levels but still can't clear more than like 70% at best, even then i already cleared like 15% by hacky workarounds ;P
I remember playing this and Jazz Jackrabbit at the daycare computers almost every day. I couldn't even make it past I think it was the 4th or 5th level on this game, hahaha!
Selo Bee me on the 2nd level only...lol...I used to play games like this and wolfenstein on my grandfather’s computer...and, oh, other games like treasure mountain, dangerous Dave and Mortal Kombat 1
All our school computers had it for some reason. It was like a secret among some students who knew how to open a command prompt and run skyroads Looking at it now, it doesn't make sense that you are looking at the spaceship from 3rd person while seeing the dash at the same time. I suppose it's just to make the HUD look fancy but still If you move sideways it should slow your forward speed slightly but I don't think the game models that. The graphics are probably not real 3d. Probably just a projection of 2d
I just had this game pop into my head again out of nowhere. It's been 20+ years since I was a little kid spending hours of my day playing this on my old Windows 98. I never knew if it was popular or not, so I decided to see if anyone else had experienced this gem of a game and uploaded it on here, and to my pleasant surprise, someone had. Thank you for uploading this, the nostalgia trip has been greatly appreciated.
I played the heck out of this as a kid! What a blast from the past. It just hit me this morning, the name of this game popped up in my noggin out of nowhere, and I was like, "I wonder if anyone else remembers it," so looked up Skyroads Gameplay and BOOM, here we are. How nostalgic, thanks for sharing your performance and great job! You're definitely better at it than kid-me was lol!
The music at 15:09 takes us on a journey through the ruins of a futuristic wasteland--the burned-out, fractured shell of what was once a bustling metropolis.
Awesome stuff, love the game and the music... You did pretty well and made it look easy which is not. Used to play this game in 90's as a kid and was joyful time. Thank you!
I remember playing this game way back in 2001, and then got wiped out when my dad upgraded to XP in late 2002. Had been searching this game for a decade and it was a very obscure game; just found it recently and got it fired up on my VM to play it just like it was my childhood!
Great gameplay and great memories unlocked. I used to play this some years ago back in highschool in the computer lab. This game always gave me a feeling of desolate tranquility, very fitting of the whole vaporwave aesthetic.
The name of this game suddenly popped out in my head and searched for it; it was literally the first game that I played in the first PC I had, the good ol' childhood days.
You ever remember that game you played on windows 92 and forget it for years.. you can’t remember what the hell it was, but it was embedded into your subconscious and is knocking at a door you can’t answer.. until you find it one day and everything comes to fruition. I finally found this game and I wish I can go back in time to play it
Oh boy! Old silly childhood memories refreshed, when i use to think space will have roads and everyone will be travelling like that. Never made it past 2nd stage tho lmao.
@5:20 Just noticed that the platforms on the left spelled "GAS". Points you to the tunnel where we need to go to fill up the fuel as it's about to run out.
this was included for me in a "100 shareware games" cd-rom pack i bought at target in the 90s. about 40% of the games included didnt work, another 20% worked but were unplayable, and the other 20% were weird gems like this game. best $9.99 i've ever spent.
I had one like that, I think it had Operation: Innerspace, Jazz Jackrabbit 2, and a Interactive Fiction/Text Adventure sampler including a game called Theatre about a haunted theatre, also a few weird games I couldn't quite figure out
I remember that there was this computer store back then that would just play this demo all the time lol. This kinda leaves me nostalgia for this game but also all the independent computer stores that used to exist.
I think I discovered it in the 2000s from a friend's CD. I really love the music at 2:34 (Blue Planet Road 1) but I think it was played at Misty Road 2 in the version I played, interesting.
I loved this game as a kid, played it a lot but it also creeped me out so much. I remember going back to it years later and finding out that it wasn't as difficult as I remembered. Still, a reasonably challenging game and really fun too. But still creepy. lol
Took me back1998 with my best friend from primary school, sat on high stools in the computer lab after our 20-minute basic computer skills class finished we'd play this games and take turns. I remember how clean the computer was, the pristine white mechanical keyboard and the heavy mouse with the metal ball that we used to steal
the grav-o-meter measures how strong the downward pull on your ship is, the jump-o-master uses extra fuel to give you extra horizontal maneuverability!
Crazy to see this again. I remember Android Belt 3 was a level my friend and I couldn’t beat. And I had a dream that you had to jump over the last tunnel and drop down the middle to have enough fuel. Woke up eager to share the news and I was right! That was 30 years ago now. Crazy.
I personally couldn't beat many of the roads, but in particular the one nobody in my family could beat was Earth 3 - it was the one road which had absolutely zero completion marks. We just couldn't make consistent jumps on the first bit with the slow-tiles, and always ran out of air. I remember managing to clear that section, and I think the one after that as well with the flat plain, but couldn't grasp that I needed to jump on the blue tiles to replenish supplies, so ran out of air just before the end. So I came closest among my crowd, but couldn't break the curse that level had over us.
I played this when I was younger, but it was on a demo disc with several other games on it. I remember visually what they looked like, but all the names escape me.
