She was a beautiful ship. And not only a car ferry to have royalty aboard. Such a sadly dramatic disaster. I can’t imagine being in a sinking like this, especially in cold weather like this. I’m just happy that most were saved. Even just one life lost is tragic. But I am happy for all and the amount who were saved.

Listening to the mayday call, and subsequent transmissions gives me the impression that besides panicking, the crew had no idea how to relay info....no wonder there was a collision in the first place

a lot of people think it was due to an affair between the captain and one of the employees. due to this, they became negligent and didn't discover the danger until it was to late. also, nice to watch another vid on this :). but for anyone in the comments, i actually am the son of Ryan and Jill so if you want to know anything more than whats in this vid, by all means ask me and i'll tell as much as i can for you :).

No mystery here…. Just utter incompetence and unprofessional misconduct causing death.

From this narration it appears the local fiirst nations people were more competent sailors than any of the BC Ferries employees.

The last refit was in Deas Dock Richmond and one of my coworkers was stuck in that stupid old elevator for over an hour, It got stuck quite often, it had one of those antique metal doors that closed in against itself. One that a child could have easily put their hand through the holes because it wasn't solid like today's modern elevators. There was a live-on crew aboard it during the refit. I was advised by a crew member, If I got trapped, I should jump up and down while hitting or holding the button. I can't remember which. I'm willing to bet the missing couple were trapped in the elevator. I worked for the Ferries for years and they run on bandaids all the money is spent upstairs to make them look nice. In trades, we had a saying pay me now or pay me later. Later costs more. That's why the dam things break down all the time.

Great video. I did the inside passage on that ship in 1991

I'm too young to have ever saw this ship in real life, but this story still really interests me as i'm from the Vancouver area and have used BCF many times to visit my grandmother in Victoria
