      Reggae/Dub is eternal. That distinct, gritty sound from the 60s, 70s and 80s is cemented in history. A lot of producers still carry on that legacy, using the right skills and equipment.

    Absolute authentic sounds contained here. I've been in the Reggae and Dub world for a long time and I really believe one can achieve the sound you want with any combination of tools you care to use. Tippy makes a great point about something as simple as rolling off the highs in the right places to create tone era you like. Although some pieces of hardware will get you there faster, I've never not been able to achieve what I want with software.

    A great masterclass - mad respect to Tippy I for sharing your skills and techniques. It’s perhaps a shame that the when the computer screen is shown fullscreen it doesn’t always match up to what is being talked about.
    It’s a pity the skills of the video editor do not match the skills of the Dub Engineer.
    I’m sorry to point this out, I don’t wish to take anything away from the skill and generosity of Tippy I for making this video.

    Well, this is not a masterclass, it is more of a technique demo. Using a controller is really difficult to follow what paramater are you tweaking.

  • @mickyrhythmvendor
    @mickyrhythmvendor ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just makes you realise you can never get that real authentic sound without the real outboard effects. Not saying this guy is not good at what he does.. but the sound has something lacking

    • @SonicScoop
      @SonicScoop  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is the exact opposite of my takeaway from this.
      -Justin

    • @DJSKAROB
      @DJSKAROB ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are entitled to you opinion but Tippy has produced plenty of world class tunes, He owns and has access to plenty outboard gear…yet still says that he also uses these these plug-ins on almost every mix and as part of his live dub mixing. Forward ever backwards never

    • @mickyrhythmvendor
      @mickyrhythmvendor ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why he uses them over outboard. Maybe he has some deal with Soundtoys and this is part of the promotion. Maybe it's just easier than carrying a load of out board around if he's doing live dub mixing.. I don't know.. But after listening to and playing reggae for over 40 years I think I can express an opinion. I've spent a long time working with great producers like Lee Perry, Mad Professor and many big artists. This guys productions and sound is a modern take on reggae.. nothing wrong with that.. I was just saying you're not going to get that original feel and sound of say a Scratch or Tubby's with these effects..
      Reggae is being reinvented.. No way I'm going to listen to something like this over some foundation artists/productions. Just doesn't sound like reggae to me. More a cross between reggae and EDM..
      And with respect.. sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards..

    • @DJSKAROB
      @DJSKAROB ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mickyrhythmvendor - 100% you have a right to express your opinion...think I already affirmed that myself too. I did a gig with the Mad Professor about a week ago & the only outboard dub gear he used was one guitar foot-pedal delay. Its true to say what people use for live dub, especially touring, will not relate to what they use in the studio. I sometimes wonder what someone like king tubby would make of...or with... todays gear

    • @naakaalastudio6655
      @naakaalastudio6655 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@DJSKAROB Tubby would probably dump the old gear and be ecstatic about what we have available today. The only people obsessed with these ancient gear are purist. The Scientist, Tubby's apprentice swears by digital and even makes the case it's far superior to analog. Look up his interview in Tape-Op magazine. These men used what was available to them at the time it was not out of some obsession with any specific gear.
