That bit about nearly everyone using the same equipment these days and getting a predictable sound result is so true.

this is especially true with the state of hip hop now, everyone wants to sound the same as someone else, using the same old 808 drums and sound libraries it is the opposite of the mentality from before

Dub is sugar for ears, brain and soul, like the music before, that was dubbed afterwards.....king music

I love the almost juxtaposition of Horace Andy's 'In the Light' and the dub album 'In the light Dub'. The vocal being good but not heavy weight, but the dub definitely is.

Excellent! The advice he gives brings the best of old-school. His advice about listening in the room and then in the control room is fundamental regardless of genre. A moment spent fixing the source before hitting Record can save hours in mixing and give better results.

Those who witness this for free are very lucky. This man is the real deal and lives the craft. His value to reggae is what Tim Westwood’s value is to hip hop.

Sounds like Carlton Barrett drumming on The Gorgon track. It's the distinctive drum roll preceded by the staccato bass kick that is one of his signature drum riffs

good masterclass, some interesting observations such as temp / humidity affecting the sound of analogue equipment. cool. although guess have to move to Jamaica to get the sound you want...

All of those Tubbys albums that you see out on the street, most of them are frauds as it was only 4 albums King Tubby produced with Bunny Striker Lee, Dub From The Roots, The Roots Of Dub, Brass Rockers & Shalom Dub.

    • @michaeltoner1993

Yeah but thousands of versions were mixed as b sides on 7 inch, so there is plenty of material available to create new compilations of genuine tubbys dubs
