    I am german and I have learnt frigorist from 1957 to 1960 in the Saarland. I have then as a monteur/machanic/fitter workt. 1972 I have make the examination of a master in this business. By the begin we have build the kondensingunits and the evaporators, with open kompressors for CH3CL (cooling liquid), in own workshop. I was in this sector at 2003 in work. Then just as pensioner I am interesting at new system of work, new cooling liquids and new tools. Thank you for the presentation.

    Chris,
    I'm a facilities tech for a family entertainment center. One of the things that I have never had any training on is HVACR. The only way that I learned anything was to call out to a local service. I would shadow them like a puppy dog. They often get irritated with that. I always ask questions and sometimes a patient technician would explain the situation. Thanks for making these videos! I have learned soo much more in the past few weeks watching your videos than the last 10 years of shadowing the technicians we have called out for service.

    I have to say this buddy. I have a lot of time for you and this channel. I've been a refrigeration engineer in the UK for 20 something years. I've always worked in the hospitality industry and the guys I've been around have no real passion or interest in their work. Apart from my own studies I've been seriously bored with my job for some time. But since discovering your channel I've learned a lot, more in the past 3 months than I have in the last 5 years. I've also become interested in my work again. It's really a blessing to be able to find someone who cares so much about what they do and puts this information out there for others to learn from. You are one of the best mentors I have ever had the opportunity to listen to and watch. Keep up the fantastic work and thanks again 👍

    On those carel valves you can disconnect the wire connector and rotate the coil to open and close the valve. Then you don’t have to power them up. Don’t pressure test over 150psi. I argued with the Heatcraft teacher at the intelligen class I was in about that. He said you could test up to 300 psi. I have put about 8 inteligen units in and about 20 QRC units. They are good units very little issues.

I'm amazed that your coolers have defrost timers on them. Up here in canada very seldom is there a defrost clock on a walk in cooler. Must be the humidity down there or the higher temps keep the units going longer

    You mentioned you checked rotation of the compressor. How did you do that? With a phase rotation tester or is there a easier way? Still learning. I know that say on 3 phase to just switch a leg on scroll compressors if you don’t see it build pressure right away or if you hear it start up hard. But is there a better way? Or and do they normally rotate clock wise or counter clockwise on Copland scroll? If you have insight it’s always good to learn from your videos.

    I’m not even remotely qualified to troubleshoot HVAC and I agree that the evaporators and condescending unit required replacement. I also find that many people want a quick fix rather than a correct one. Perhaps the valve issue is improper technique.

      I think this depends too much on the exact units used and there condition to make a general statement. I can tell you al little story from work tho: We used to run some very old systems still using R-22 back at the place we had rented for our servers. Switching to a new site and using heatpumps we cut our cooling/heating bill by more than 2/3 since we could use the server room heat now in a useful manner :)

    Wanted to share some feedback from Heatcraft and I from the field -- bubbles showed up in the sightglass on a -20 degree freezer -- normally 1st reaction would be to keep that sight glass full so you have a full column of refrigerant feeding the TXV -- not so fast. My first instinct was getting a temperature drop across the drier -- Heatcraft wanted me to take a pressure drop at the outlet of the receiver; then, use the same high side hose and take a pressure reading downstream of the filter drier -- kill me now. Also take subcooling and superheat readings at the CU -- Modern Refrigeration CU's condense much lower than 30 degrees above ambient temp from 10 years ago.

    The old line-set was no so bad, cause it was not a condition of burn-out. If it was a burn-out then then old lines should be flushed or replaced, but is merely a number of components worn out. These new rotary compressors have no valves to wear out or restrict flow making for a more efficient systems. And in theory, with digital control, air defrost might even be dependable. How is there so much filth in the coils ? Does someone sweep the floors into the cooler ? The customer needs a wash hose and a schedule.

    • @Blink_____

      just a passerby but I'm gonna say many cycles of freezing up and thawing probably damaged the fins like that. The same way ice damages roads and sidewalks. Enough freeze/thaw cycles and it just crumbles. But due to the apparent laziness of previous maintainers it could also have been careless handling of the units too.

    I'm new to your channel and I have a question. Does icing cause deterioration of the evaporator cooling fins if icing occurred multiple times??

    • @HVACRVIDEOS
      @HVACRVIDEOS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can in some circumstances

    I hope the manufacturer of IntelliGen controller has some special type of rotary encoder/switch. From my experience when used rarely they stop working after a few years (e.g. Nibe heat pumps). Even after 5 minutes of turning they do not operate properly and servicing is a nightmare.

    Great job Chris, thanks for walking thru the intelligen, never seen those before thanks for sharing.Basically the B Unit is a slave to A? is there only one solenoid? Appreciate you bud thanks again

      Yeah the b coil is the slave, the electric expansion valves acts as the solenoid valve. The master coil communicates with the B coil via a shielded com line. But each coil has it's own valve

    5:23 The HVACR tech gets confused! Make sure to not confuse yourself if you want to check the pressures by verifying that the clock is clicked out of defrost. Next time.

    R448 a is a very efficient refrigerant and runs at similar pt ratios to r22. Ive never seen those intelligent coils. I'm not sure how i feel about that. Cool to see though.

      I'v been getting advertisements for Bluon R-458A on these videos. www.coolingpost.com/world-news/bluons-r458a-refrigerant-is-snap-listed/ Seems to be a complex blend of difluoromethane (R-32), tetrafluoroethane (R-134a), pentafluroroethane (R-125), hexafluoropropane (R-236fa), heptafluoropropane (R-227ea). The specs seem to show it runs at lower pressures than R22, transfers heat better, and requires no modification to R-22 systems to retrofit, as it's mineral oil compatible.

    It’s weird how the new condenser is so big.

    • @SpaceShipDeathstar
      @SpaceShipDeathstar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing weird about it. This is just simply because it is set up by someone who knows what he is doing. The spacing between the condenser fins is much less likely to clogg up this way.
