- This was a call on a beer walk in that was too warm, as usual one thing led to another but I got the unit up and running.

1, 2, 3 PLEASE DON’T BLOW UP!
I say this all the time😂😂😂
My dad does industrial electrical and he does the same thing 💀
Me, every time I hit a disconnect on, after nearly 20 years.
This needs to be a shirt!
You gotta say "errrrr, click." when you torq those down!!!
I sure hope my mechanic doesn’t use the same torque wrench when he’s changing my tires! “CLICK!” 😂
I guarantee he does
I guarantee he just whacks them lugnuts on with an impact, well past the torque spec.
20 ugga duggas it’s on tight then maybe a click
Torque specs have there place, machines, tires, head bolts, stuff like this. But on a electric screw terminal its kinda overkill :) The only reason they put them on there is so people don't break wires of by screwing them in till they ... well break of i guess :)
But to address your concerns: Most mechanics will use a torque wrench, at least where i life since they are legally viable for damage done when a wheel comes of or they strip a thread etc.
Flare tip: place the wrenches 15 degrees apart (one wrench flat) and squeeze with one hand. Perfect torque every time. Credit due to Fletcher Ruff, best teacher ever. 👍
That is how I torque bicycle berring races.
Your videos are fantastic. The humor you show in these videos is top notch. Keep it up
Man at least you had a roof hatch. Can't stand when architects design strip Plazas with a parapet but no roof hatch and no ladder access through the parapet. Using a 24-foot ladder & a 4 ft ladder on the other side of the parapet is no fun. If just the Architects would talk to the mechanical trades, they could learn a lot.
I always enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
PS liquor store sales have been up 15% since covid-19 started ( I'm sure your customer had no problem paying the bill).
I have a suggestion for your question at 3:10. Contactor coils fail when they don't pull in the entire length of the armature. This is most often due to a problem in the coil control circuit, such as a high resistance switch contact, and the voltage across the coil shows as a lower value when measured during the event. When the contactor does not pull in 100%, the magnetic field that is not sunk to the armature allows for a higher continuous current to flow than the coil is designed to sustain, and the coil then overheats and the result is an open coil. You can tell that this had happened by inspecting the coil for warping of the plastic thimble on which the coil is wound. A hot coil will tend to distort that thimble.
"I can't handle an upside down contractor face plate" Chris, love it. I have one of my former co workers, he's a great tech you two would hit it off fine. One of his sayings is "If it's worth doing it's worth overdoing". he had Covid -19 fully recovered and back to work thankfully, good guy but he drives me nuts. Lots of fun to work with though.
Maybe the tech was laying down on the job (on top of the unit working down for the rush.
I said before, when I grow up I would like to be like Chris. (and I am 64!!!!) 😆 😅 😂 🤣
I know you are a nice guy. I would have had to leave the access door open and just told the customer I could not close it because it was damaged due to their lack of maintenance. You might want to take care of that, buddy, before the next rain.
You just told us why your work ethic is not the same as Chris.
The guy who puts the screws in the contactor at the factory has pride in his work when installing it that's why you get 4 screws lol
Remove the service t less flares, adds flared drier and glass..
as a newer service tech i love being able to follow along with what youre doing and what your process is. thank you!
Your umbrella holder is literally a photography umbrella holder. That's very clever. :)
I have probably said this before, but you are the best tech i have seen. I love this channel and everything you put on here. Thank you.
Thanks so much bud, I certainly am not the best and I'm sure there are many more techs much better than I but I really do appreciate the nice words!! I will be going live on TH-cam this evening 6/1/20 to discuss everything going on and we might talk a little about my recent videos too. Come on over and check it out, we go live @ 5:PM (pacific) th-cam.com/video/1EqOoJVAh3E/w-d-xo.html
Man, exactly when you are really tired and ready to go, something happens. It is unbelievable. Thank you for the video.
I enjoyed this content
Ah, yes, the German torque wrench:
Gutenteit!
I've had those spade terminals fall off before. Not fun.
Another great video Chris. Great to see your still getting service calls 👍 stay safe bud!
good tip on the schrader valves. this is very important in automotive applications but is often overlooked. That rookie mistake is why I'm in need of some r-12 LOL :)
I totally understand about putting the faceplate and all the screws correctly. Thats what separates the professional from the hack. I Do the same thing. Always Do anything to the best of your ability.
Sweet. New upload!
208v phase to phase is so weird to me! Our 3 phase is normally 440v phase to phase! Still loving these videos.
Could you do a live service call? If possible?
I like your proactive preventative maintenance philosophy. 👍
Hell you could see the white of the smoke from a fried coil on the face of the contacter. Totally fried
I agree it is really dumb that they did not fix the roof hatch when you told them that it may need to be fixed. All the way over here in Missouri I felt your frustration. I hate when I am looking forward to getting something done and when I am wrapping things up and something else comes up and you have to go fix another thing that should have not been an issue, to begin with. See you tomorrow night for your stream!
You are so intelligent it just comes natural, I hope to aspire to be like you in a way. Great video!
5:08 I recommend to use wire end ferrules there (cause it's the right thing to do as not doing that could cause points of high resistance).
I'd also recommend using some name-brand isolated electrician's screw drivers too to protect you (something from Wiha should do the job - they also offer them in a "torque screw driver" model as well).
I enjoy watching your videos :)
It looked to me like he was using isolated Klein screwdrivers
@@jeremyhundley3142 yep, you're right! I just re-watched that part - guess I didn't look close enough as I'm usually watching stuff on my phone.
I love getting new tools but I think I'll skip on the $300 screwdriver set. Lol
I’ve had a brand new oil safety control fail to what I believe was when I applied a little bit of nylog to the flare fittings it caused premature failure of control. Clogged internally ? Even used the flexible super hoses instead of cap tube. What do you guys think ?
No matter how you look at it.....a warm beer cooler is an emergency.
Chris said: “most of it’s piss beer” 😂
Thank you
What brand are those Schrader core tools? How often do you flush that micron gauge with R-11 if you do? Me I put my micron gauge at the back end of the tool this way you can shut off the valve and not push freon thru it. This way no oils cause false numbers. Great job fixing that box.
This whole time I was praying for you not to have a bad compressor and you didn't congrats! Stay safe Chris! And I did make it to the end of the video!
I miss brazing pipe.
4 years of night classes to get certified and got screwed by the plumbers Union (No HVAC union in NJ and they went to courts to get it covered under their domain)
never got an apprenticeship because I wasn't going through another few years of the Union based training program.
some guys are installing a new Liebert unit at my work and the guy training the rookie is just ... it's sad to watch.
The roof hatch problem can be sort of fixed with a length of chain, just long enough to stop it opening up the full 180 degrees. I'm thinking of about 135 degrees from closed.
Got to love his click wrench. Click, set. I heard it. :))
It got old the first time he did it.
Not a refrigeration guy just trying to learn, you said you’d put a dab of silicone on the fan cycle control? What is the purpose of that? Something to prevent rubouts?
mdt1993 that’s exactly what’s its for. Many manufacturers run silicone alone the top side of the capillary tube coils in order to keep them in place and minimize vibration.
coil them on the rubber handle of your 11-1, only use what you need to make it where you're going
This is what you want in a instructional video: Not having any interest in HVAC work (nothing wrong, I just do other things), but you feel like you could worm your way into not blowing people up, lol. Great video!
Thanks bud
It's reciprocating compressor, so don't doesn't matter 3 phase location
the discolored white debris on the front of the manual push slot is enough to say, excessive wear/cycling has occurred.
Mucho bueno Chris.
Hello from an hvac tech in sweden, i tought i was working with old things sometimes but this is and many things in your channel is like ww2😅 in comparison big thumbs up keep up the Good work👌😉
Great video, thankyou. I can drink Guinness at any temperature. But beer walkin box at 50d especially with beer lines, not good all. Probably had foam issues at tower until u fixed it. 👍👍
That metal box with the contractor inside may be a commercial off the shelf part they buy from a smaller supplier and then just wire up.
Is there a reason the drier/sight glass couldn't be pulled inside of the unit? Personal preference for me, I dislike the sun weathering it does to the sight glass especially, i saw you capped it but those plastic caps in my experience don't last with sun damage very long
Thanks for sharing Chris, I do the same thing to those flare fittings, Nice easy call for ya and then the hatch happened LOL, Take Care bud
You should use end sleeves on the high current wiring. It will only take a few seconds more time but it is more reliable for the future.
I always cut the end off the conductor to start fresh when terminating.. I don’t like how the strands are all flat...OCD?
Use some wire end ferrules, removes that headache and makes the connection a lot stronger.
I do the same thing. Old shredded wire ends drive me insane.
That actually reduces the terminal contact area and can create hot spots.
SMOBY44 .. I would disagree on that one.. when the strands are flexible they spread around the head of the lug giving you more surface area.. when they are compressed and flat you just have that one small spot of contact
@@SMOBY44 after cut the old shredded section off, I re-strip the wire end to the length that I need. It's like having a new wire.
Bungee cord through the hatch handle to the top rung of the ladder is the classic fix for a malformed roof hatch.
Fantastic video and job 👍👍👍
So I watched / listened on your R22 decision. I’m curious what a tank cost you out there. When it hit 700.00 here I decided I was done. That said, most 22 stuff here (in Mi) has been phased out. Not sure if we have fewer because of winter or not. I also don’t like having 4-7 different tanks on my truck!
Last I checked it was 450 ish, a drum
I wish my first job was working for someone like you... would have saved me from learning the hard way so many times
Hey Chris, why the walk in cooler has a suction pressure of 50Psi and a walk in freezer has 30 Psi suction? How is the 20 Psi difference obtained? Is it the TXV calibration or the compressor being a LBP type? And why cant we use Medium temp compressor for low temp applications?
Remember lower pressure equals a lower temperature so a freezer has to have a lower PSI.
How is that obtained by using different gases if needed and having the proper charge.
You can't use a medium temp compressor in a low temp application because that's just not what it's designed for, it will work but it will significantly shorten the life of the compressor.
tork scew driver..... thats nice tool.
Vid from HVAC Videos-
Saved the evening.
Do you retorque ALL screws and service lines afternoon the beer cools and you quality control beer temperature, or do you retorque after two beer temperature quality control test ?
I like the fact that you're using two wrenches instead of only one because A: it's easier and B: it cuts the hassle literally in half
Tork isn’t a word dude, read a little more my dude
@@Walczyk Oops! Thanks for catching that
@@samsimington5563 sorry I’m a jerk! Thanks for being kind
Nice repair, it needed to be fixed and you made it easier to service next time! Win/Win! Thanks Chris! Maybe the next tool review could be your torque wrench! 😂
Master diagnosis my good man
And good humor
I like Ballast Point Lager ...
Does the positive pressure ever do damage to your micron gauge? I always get scared of this and usually put a ball valve between it to close it off so no refrigerant enters my SVG3 micron gauge.
The BluVac is built to take positive pressure, I will be going live on TH-cam this evening 5/11/20 @ 5:PM (pacific time) to discuss my most recent uploads and answer questions from TH-cam comments, emails and the live chat come over and check it out. th-cam.com/video/KHj-ZloqCvY/w-d-xo.html
I think it's the 1st time I see 4 screws on a contactor !
Nice video,,, i watched it twice.....One question,, why did the contactor coil burn out? Any good reason?
Good job
you said you put the service handle in the steam port, but you put it in the liquid port or you got the valve reversed?
Why do you flip the cylinder upside down and hook up to the vapor port ? How does that speed things up ?
123 40psi 😂😂😂😂 123 40psi i freaking love it
I'm a mechanic and the only car I've ever seen with an AC system sight glass is the 1st generation Toyota Sienna. Maybe there's a lot more cars with it and I just don't know it. I haven't worked on everything, especially not trucks.
Never seen a car without one
I’ve seen a lot of them in the automotive and heavy duty systems.
No link to your torque wrench set, please fix your list!
He uses a torque wrist set. ;)
Auto called, he wants his Warmbeer back😂
"There's a tear in my beer"....... cause I'm crying over ya dear.. H.W. Senior :)
Ahh an old Hank reference... shows your age a bit but it's appreciated by those who get it.
I enjoyed watching !!
Best torque wrench it never fail
Its funny because, you, as a commercial refrigeration company, slowed down due to the virus. I, as a residential hvac company, EXPLODED with business due to people staying home. Funny how that works. What's good for one may not be good for another.
Beer should have a temp between 42°F and 57°F when you drink it depending which kind of beer you have. The correct drinking temp is easier to decide in °C if you don't have the drinking temp from the brewery. The amount of alcohol rounded up in the beer equals the best drinking temp. For a 6.5 beer the temp should be about 7°C or 44°F. You can test that if you put some cold beer in a glas and smell it and then warm it up with your hand and you will recognize the flavor will get richer. Beer that is to cold is tasteless.
Also , your recovery machine pumps the system down to -6 psig? Isn't that risky since the system has a confirmed leak?
Are bare stranded wires into screw-down lugs even up to US electrical code? Those would have required ferrules in any European country for sure.
So curious Chris; since you had the 22 out, why not convert the system to a modern refrigerant like MO99 or others?
I will discuss this on my livestream this evening 5/11/20 @ 5:PM (pacific time) come check it out th-cam.com/video/KHj-ZloqCvY/w-d-xo.html
Why is it that the Accutools S10735 Core Removal Tool 1/4" only has a one star rating from the vendor on your link? The guy that gave it only one star claims it leaks.
Why didn't you move the valve back towards the receiver, so that the dryer and sight glass are still inside the unit and aren't hanging out in mid-air like that? Seems like they are much more vulnerable to being damaged now that they are outside of the unit. It surprises me too how much of the pipework is just left floating and unsupported. With the amount of vibration it is likely subjected to it is no wonder you get a lot of leaks.
I see alot of guys using gloves....if i remember ill use them when working w/ refer but other than the dirty aspect is there another reason?.....(chemicals in the making of product etc... )...thanks
Where do you get the flares? I dont make good flares. If I could buy them predone Id use them more.
Just curious. Why couldn’t you pump it down with the sight glass and filter dryer ? Thanks
the king valve was after the drier, so if I pumped it down the drier would still have gas in it.... I will discuss this on my livestream this evening 5/11/20 @ 5:PM (pacific time) come check it out th-cam.com/video/KHj-ZloqCvY/w-d-xo.html
You're correct any beer that is not a piss beer is actually best served in that 45-55 range. I also agree with your sentiment on those terrible beers. Natty light being the absolute worst
You're so right about Corona beer !!!
How often do you have your wrist calibrated ? And also I could haul off all that warm beer at no charge ... Lol ... Great vid Chris and great sponsors ...
I like the click from the manual torque wrench at 13:03
My co worker fell from 30 feet because bjs roof hatch was faulty and smacked him while he was at the top. He broke every bone from his toes, his hips, and his back. He returned to work two years later. I’m not sure how to get customers to care about my safety concerns unless I refuse to fix their equipment
Thee ole goodntite!! Thumbs up for that move! On a serious note I drop a drip of log on everything I touch!
Good video Chris
I’ve had those roof hatches almost take your head off , these restaurants don’t care about stuff like that only there bonus, be careful man👍💪
Bitchin (literally at times in the video) torque wrench set. Haha. Great video as always. Serious question, when should you use a torque wrench in this industry? I've only ever used them in automotive/diesel environments and even then only on lug nuts or torque sensitive parts.
I thought I was the only one that flipped the contactor labels the right way.
Can you out an another drier down th line?
Will the fieldpiece 480 broadcast volts on bluetooth also?
two check valves two solinoids two tees and a relay in case i put the filter in the wrong direction.
nice repair video
I like you video vlogs. Very Informative.
Man you make me miss working in HVACR, i wish i could get back into it.
What are you thoughts on ferrules on wires? Do you see them a lot in the field?
I prefer dark beer too, but I prefer cold & to sip & let sit in mouth a few seconds, I do not like majority of normal beers, & usually would prefer a soda to a piss beer. lol.
didnt know there were torque specs for these contactors, but I was aware of torque specs on lugs in big electrical panels.
for your needle nose, when you crimp those wire lugs, get you another cheap but decent pair, now heat & bend end on top & bottom, so that you have a "pinpoint" pressure point across end, & 1/2" back from end is an opening about size of a small straw, that will work wonders for wire crimping. if need pics I will send you pics of mine.
lol dig your adjustable wrench "torque wrench" "click".... look at vintage Harley repair manuals, prior to the 1980's "tighten until tight" yep, all too familiar with. no torque specs at all on vintage Harleys.
could you have heated hinges to straighten? I know its a pain either way, then if had to make a new latch tab for top? or am I over thinking since I do metal fab? since here we are concentrating on refrigeration.
when I do go go to buy any tools in future, I will look to see if I can support you first. through any links, but its June, I am 2 months from having bills off me, I have 1 car payment left & 2 house payments, just did car payment yesterday.
