Purple K Fire Extinguishers contain specially fluidized and siliconized potassium bicarbonate dry chemical which is particularly effective on Class B flammable liquids and pressurized gases. It is electrically non-conductive. Purple K Fire Extinguishers are rated for class B and class C fires.
Funny you say that. Purple k is usually a last resort. Con ed HATES when companies use it. Con ed doesnt respond right away usually. So this manhole has been coming in multiple times all tour. We tell con ed were going to use purple k they usually get there a little faster.
@@mikeholmstrom1899 they couldnt care less about conductivity. Its the mess it creates. Before they do any repair work they now have to decon everything.
They happen alot during the winter when salt trucks dump salt on the roads and the salt can corrode and then it could lead to electrical failures and fires

So could you flood the manhole with sulfer hexaflouride? It is used in switchgear to reduce arcs when switching.
Nasty little urban street volcano. At least it didn’t blow the sewer cap into low earth orbit.
Excellent video --- Debbie & Tiffany
The flashing building lights makes it look like a pinball machine
Awesome Footage! There's a lot of manhole fires in NYC.
Yep, they occur a lot during the winter time when salt trucks have to dump salt on the roads for the snow
@@fdnyklub I see. Another issue is when the wires are being chewed on by the sewer rats.
San Francisco Calif. FD had a dedicated CO2 unit for these types of fire.
I'll bet that was fun for Con Ed to clean up after.

@@fa3556 Purple K won't conduct electricity when dry, but conducts like crazy when mixed with water. Maybe that's why.
