    Really good video Joe. I like the idea of the "bump-out" glued to the first board verses nailing it to the home first. There should be a gap or two to allow any unexpected water out.
    Making the trim corners before installing is also a great idea to hide any imperfections of the corner of the house. The only thing I do differently is I trim the width of one of the trim boards by the thickness of the trim boards so that the trim is equal on both sides of the corner. But I've seen/done it both ways and it looks it good either way. Great work. And thanks for taking the time to document.

      Thanks for the kind comment and tips. Regarding the corner trim boards, I just do not like cutting cementitious siding and so ripping a piece did not appeal to me for this project. Thanks again.

    Important;
    The ripped strip behind the bottom of your 1st course should have gaps between sections to let water drip out from behind the courses of siding. Nail it to the sill. Overhang 1st course 1/4".
    1 1/4" lap is the minimum per the 2015 IRC for cementous lap siding for the courses..
    Screw 1" from top edge.

    When using similar materials there is no need to leave a gap for expansion both hardy board products will expand and contract at the same rate which is called modulus of elasticity.

      Its cement-fiber board, so its not normal siding. You should make sure to use the specific cement-fiber screws if you use screws. This siding handnails quite nicely though.

    Great job and vid. Couple of general knowledge comments. Hardin specifically says you don’t have to reprime. Not that you can’t, but for those watching you don’t have to. This is me being a bit difficult because I’ve been in the cement products business for almost 30 years, but the word is cementitious, not cementatious. You’re doin’ pretty good though, I had one great contractor who called it cinnamentatious and he wasn’t doing it to be funny!

    Beautiful addition, what are those boards made of. I'm guessing not wood. Why not use a saw to cut them?

    • @MrKistel
      @MrKistel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is Hardie Plank cementitious siding. In the video description I provide a link to a blade that can be used to cut the boards. The downside when cutting with a rotary blade type saw is the dust that is created during the cutting process. The dust is not something that should be breathed in by the installer or anyone nearby.

    One p;iece of vertical corner trim is all you need. Then just butt the siding from both walls, and caulk. Saves time and money. Also, generally not a good idea to nail siding directly to sheathing/wrap instead of nailing to vertical strapping to provide air gap for drying being sheathing and back of siding. Prevents rot/mildew and is code in many places.

    • @MrKistel
      @MrKistel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips. I noticed the strapping method is common in other regions as well, it seems like a solid installation method.

    • @MrKistel
      @MrKistel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @hxrxld

    How do you drill the planks onto the wall?
    1) do you predrill the planks and the wall first, say if it's a brick or concrete wall
    2) how do i measure the correct length of screw to use to secure the plank onto the wall?
    3) if it's a concrete or brick wall do I need to use plugs in the wall (for the screw) when mounting the plank to the wall?
    Sorry for asking too much, I m new to this but I am dying to do this since I can't afford to hire professionals

      Sounds like you have an ambitious siding project in the works. If you are putting siding over a masonry type surface it may be best to mount strips of wood to the wall with appropriate anchors into the concrete, brick, etc. The wood strips become studs essentially that you can mount the siding to.
