My 890 Adventure is just 200 miles from new. The stock gear lever position was too high. Most KTMs seem to be like that new. I adjusted mine to the lowest and found the QS to be ok in the main but I found 5th to 6th had a false neutral on a coupe of occasions. I didn’t want to gas it and risk an over rev. At home I rotated the arm on the shifter by one spline giving much more positive up shifts and better position for down shift. Better but certainly not fixed. 5th to 6th is notchy even with manual shifts. I’ll do 620 miles and get it looked at on it’s first service. The “they all do that sir” won’t do for me. There’s a “fix” from FactoryPro which claims to virtually eliminate missed gears and false neutrals. At $140 plus fitting it’s worth a shot. The worry is that it might void your warranty but an improvement over stock and the potential to protect both the gearbox and engine would seem worthwhile for an issue know to KTM yet not resolved.
Thanks for sharing, I´ll try that when spring comes. The 5th to 6th false shift is the only thing happening to my bike now. Rarely, but still, it happens
@@cloudjumper8868 My pleasure. I just want to make what it almost the perfect bike for me does not risk engine damage from an inherent defect. I was told yesterday (whilst getting locks not actually provided for my top box) that you need around 5,000 rpm before shifting. Not what the manual says and not how I ride. A false neutral at those revs on the gas and an over rev would be inevitable. You’re right that it’s rare but shouldn’t occur at all. With sub zero days ahead testing isn’t going happen soon. Sad because it’s a bike I’ll ride for fun.
@@Rossi593 The quickshifter issue is a little flaw on very nice bike. The 5000 RPM + is strange, because the qs is working perfectly in any RPM for me, even (mostly) in 5th to 6th gear. There is something somewhere that is not working exactly 100% in some situations, manifests mostly in shifting from 5th to 6th gear. The thing I made in the video helped as a proper usage of QS helps. The more time I spend on the bike, the less it happens i feel, so it is possible that it is "setting down" or that I learned to feel the moment to shift. Hopefuly with your thing I can get on even better levels of performance. Let me know if anything you do helped!
Hey man! As I wrote lower to Grey Wolf, this patch helped a lot, but I still have some issues going from 4th to 5th gear. I was recomended to check my chain tension and I found out that I should lower chain tension on my bike - according to the manual it was too stiff. It helped a lot too. Today I have almost no issues with QS and I even used it some stupid scenarios (gearing up while no throttle and braking - brainfarting included) and it just works. Only once upon a time, there is this problem between 4th and 5th and I do not know whats with that. Seller told me that it is issue, but they also have no recomendation from factory how to deal with that. Hope it will work for you! Cheers!
Hi Cloud jumper, great video Thanks for making it. I own a Gen 3 RC 390 2022 I also have an issue with my quickshifter The problem is : When I try to upshift while acceleration my quickshifter doesn’t work on open throttle But it works when I close it But closing of throttle means that I am doing a clutch less upshift rather than using a quickshifter And also to highlight The quickshifter upshifts properly on my paddoc stand and also in dyno runs I have changed my crank position sensor And bike has an history of fall towards its left where the clutch lever and its switch were broken and were replaced Tried getting it fixed through my servo station here at Chennai India But to no avail the problem is still present and not solved Any idea on how to fix this. I love this motorcycle for its great acceleration and agility But the QS gives me a head ache And one more thing that I noticed was The engine is supposed to cut off the throttle when I upshift But what happens is that the ECU cuts off my power when I am riding in roads speed even when I am not shifting.
Thanks for posting this and trying to reach a resolution. I have experienced similar although I can't recall if it was between 4th & 5th. On other occasions I've felt the lever doesn't want to go up, yet at other times the slightest touch of your toe on it and it changes. I partly blame my new adventure boots which are heavy duty and don't offer much feel but are required for their thicker sole and higher heel to allow a little more tread on the ground when stopped. Also rider error plays a part, sometimes I'm even half and half between QS and clutch. The KTM QS works differently to other bikes. I have heard reviewers criticise it as inferior but to be honest once I first mastered throttle up on the up and holding throttle on the down it was a breeze. I've just let my concentration slip since then I think.
Hey man! I found out, that with time it all is getting better. Now, when the thing happens, it is exclusively because there is not enough input from the boot. In my case, 4th to 5th is demanding a solid, resolute kick to the shift lever, other steps are not so demanding. So for me, it is just about kicking enough aka giving enough input thus this "solution" of shortening the travel distance helped a lot. I have to say, that changing the speeds in other speeds/gears is perfect, smooth and without hesitation, even in stupid scenarios (lately, I downshifted while adding a little throttle - brain was faster than hand/foot and it did change the gear). In my other videos (like Karoo 4 testing "95% of Karoo 4"" video) you can hear it going smoothly, flawlesly and in an instant. I really like the quickshifter! The only scenario quickshifter (very rarely though) doesn´t want go up to change gear is from 1st to 2nd. Never experienced it in other gears. I had similar problem with my new boots, but it went better as I rode more.
@@cloudjumper8868 Thanks very much for your reply which makes things a lot clearer. I have experienced similar more recently between 4th & 5th, yet when I first mastered change up with throttle everything just clicked so smoothly. I've also noticed a bit of a race forwards between 5th & 6th but perhaps that's to do with where the rev band is at. I'm loving the bike, though I've yet to off road it. It handles very well and the Remus exhaust has a nice deep rumble.
I have had the same problem with my 790 duke. I was quite scared when it happened because I thought it could gear down to 4th (I was switching from 5th to 6th) as cause the back wheel to lock. Not sure if that could actually happen. I had the 1290 super adventure and it never happened, it always worked perfectly even on v low rpm (4000 and 5000)
I hear you. Hope it went away? Or was there any fix for that? 1290 engine+transmision do not have this issue, it is only related to 790/890 engine+transmission. I would like to know, if CF MOTO bikes (which use 790 engine) have this issue too.
(im swedish so sorry for bad spelling) i dont think shortening the rod would have any affect, its just there for rider preffernce. a solution i find many ppl talking about is removig the leaver thats on the shifting arm (goes into gearbox) there is a mark on both the lever and the rod wich should line up (grove in shiftrod and a white line and "D" och lever). im driving a 2021 duke 890 and have massive shifting error, have found false netural between every gear. i have my adjustment rod very short (aka footpeg far down) as my rider prefference but still massive problems. i switched to GP just for this problem which seems to help a bit but no where near good. i have even built and extention for my shiftlever to make the fotpeg travel a shorter distance, did not help. Anyone tried getting the quickshifter recalibrated, if so did it work?
Hi! Just now my bike is at dealers because some other issue. I described the situation and showed video of missshifting and the response of the dealer (head of service i believe) was "We have never seen anything like this." But as they were unable to replicate the situation (although riding the bike for whole evening) they released it as a user problem. I do not mean anything bad, they are kind and professional guys and we agreed to bring the bike again to check on it. I´ll report if I find out anything.
@@cloudjumper8868 i adjusted the thingy on the gearbox lever i talked about and it ran sooo much smother, night and day. Ran into a problem once but that was 100% my fault. @@p1ngu646 Little update. While repairing another issue on the bike, the dealer reinstaled QS software. Since that I have no problem with quickshifter at all.
