This is wonderful, Tara. Glad you eventually made it a priority like we did at Carrowcrory. For us it was also an essential part of the drainage system to help drain our boggy land. It had a control to not make it too wild for the frogs and tadpoles.
What was amazing was the approaching frogs at mating season. I remember Claire looking out of the kitchen window and saying, look at those frogs hopping by. I said to her, look at the window on the opposite end of the kitchen and you will see the same.
The pond becomes quite a meeting/mating pool. When you approach the frogs actually gang up, puff up, and get tough to try and chase the human away. You will have never ending fun with this :-)
Be careful of protecting their winter hiding places, and make more of them if you can.

Saw a frog under the pallets the day after we put them there, my expectations are now very high for tadpole season 😅

I really like this idea. I would be concerned about it being a breeding ground for mosquitoes, though. They seem to find any standing water on our property in no time at all! Thoughts?

Always a very distinct possibility Ann! I'm hoping the froggies move in first and develop a penchant for mozzies 😬
