      Same. Waiting since 1st of February. First expected date of availability was 10th of February, then it changed to 17th of March. I contacted them a few days later and they don't have a date at all now.
      I asked them to at least send out the other parts i ordered, so the computer could be running without direct die for a while, but they really charge extra shipping for that. After waiting nearly 2 months now...
      Don't get me wrong, i like EK, especially their high quality products. But i would expect them to send the other stuff without extra charging money as soon as the waiting time is that much longer than initially told when buying the products.
      Since they refused to send the splitted order without charging additional money, i think it's fair to show it to everyone. Maybe they change that behaviour this way.

      Agree. Currently possibly the only waterblock that would work on a direct die 7000 series is a Optimus waterblock and even if it says "in stock" and "ready to ship in xx days" you are expecting months of waiting and no customer service whatsoever. This leaves a great market opportunity for EK.

    we used Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste on the cleaned die, in lieu of "liquid metal" as ref'd in the video. with this thermal paste, you do NOT spread out the paste. instead, for an LGA1700 chip you place 5 dots (2mm diameter). one dot at the center, and one each at each corner for a total of five dots. the instructions with the paste state: "CAUTION! Applying too much thermal paste can lead to higher CPUU temperatures."

    I am having weird heating issues after installing. idle temps are 10-15 degrees hotter and it gets thermal throttle spikes at idle. I uninstalled it and the liquid metal is not making contact. I did tightened the die guard all the way tho, perhaps that might be why its not making good contact? I am reliding the ihs and retesting to make sure its not the cpu (praying its not bricked)

    • @PiotrKundu
      @PiotrKundu ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had this issues on some cores of the AMD 7950X3D I delidedd. I used a regular EKWB AM5 Ryzen waterblock and the issues was than one of the 3 dies on the AMD did not contact, and those core got hot (it was one of the non 3D cached onces). To fix I run Cinebench and then adjusted the screw tension in the corner I got to much heat. It was nerve-racking, but it fixed the heat problem (and throttleling) issue. The 12th and 13th gen don't have mutliple CPU dies, but uneven screw tension could still affect even contact - it's a plaussible idea at least.

    What also interests me as a buyer of the EK-QuantumVelocity² Direct Die D-RGB - LGA 1700. With how many Nm that the guard can be tightened at maximum?

    • @austin_colt
      @austin_colt ปีที่แล้ว

      @@re11ek No that's not what I mean. Apparently there's been multiple accounts of people having worse cooling after installing a direct die kit on a delidded chip. From what I understand, EK made the coldplate slightly convex like they would for a regular block coldplate to increase effectiveness on the concave IHS with the stock ILM. This makes direct die cooling worse since the flat die is against a convex surface. You can confirm this by looking at the coldplate in pictures with direct light. There is a point in the middle with rings around it. People believe this is why they keep pushing back the shipping dates. To fix this issue.

    The Direct Dei cooler does not work!
    In the meantime I have disassembled my PC six times to find the problem of the Direct DEI cooler. And believe me, it's not easy and it's not fun at all. It's not a test setup where some product videos are created.
    The installation of the Direct DEI cooler was carried out exactly according to the operating instructions and videos from EKBW and Roman.
    Ultimately, the Direct DEI cooler does not make contact with the decapitated CPU. Checked this out by removing the liquid metal on the Direct DEI cooler. I screwed on the frame and the cooler with different values. 0.30, 0.40, 0.50 and 0.60 Nm.
    Additionally, I also removed the Protection FOAM from the board. But unfortunately also no contact between Direct DEI cooler and CPU. It looks like the frame is too high.
    In the course of the six modifications, I also took a closer look at the frame. The protective foil attached to the underside was glued crookedly and thus caused a bulge to form when screwing. With the result that the frame was not plan. At this point I started the verification as described above.
    Why it worked halfway after the initial installation. But that still means that the temperature of the CPU in idle was about 20 degrees warmer than with my AIO Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360. It was because I applied too much liquid metal to both sides, CPU and Direct DEI cooler. So some heat could be dissipated.
    For the test, I temporarily removed the protective film from the frame to check whether there was now contact between the Direct DEI cooler and the beheaded i9-13900KS. Liquid metal was only applied to the DEI (CPU). Frame and Direct DEI were tightened with 0.4 Nm. After removal, no transfer of liquid metal could be detected on the cold plate of the Direct DEI!
    The same procedure again but now with 0.60Nm - unfortunately also negative!
    I wrote to EKWB on April 27, 2023. Unfortunately no response yet. I hope that I will get a positive answer on May 3rd, 2023!

    The direct die upgrade kit isn't compatible with the velocity2 momentum monoblock for the rog Z790 hero, is it? @@ColinDyckes It was more of a question to ekwb than a statement. On the page of the dd upgrade kit it states in the "please note" section (the yellow box): "Compatible ONLY with a EK-Quantum Velocity² 1700 CPU water block". It is the emphasizing of the "only" in that statement which leads me to believe the dd upgrade kit is not compatible with the Z790 hero monoblock. I would love for EKWB to correct me on this though, as i would so much more prefer the z790 hero over the maximus z790 formula. (looking to build it into a desk using a waterchiller for cooling to avoid exposure to the salty sea air here which corrodes everything super fast. so i really want that watercooled power rail.) though looking at the monoblock and comparing it to the 1700 cpu block, the contact area "looks" identical to each other.
