- Not all remakes are created equal, and to Completionists out there the Luigi's Mansion remake for the 3DS is SCARY! I love this game, but sometimes can't seem to enjoy it when there's so much extra content that feels like busy work. The premise is simple: Mario is missing and it's up to Luigi to find him. I'm joined by PeanutButterGamer to play co-op mode through Luigi's Mansion 3DS version to tackle all the extra content and frustrating controls.

Yeah... about that...
It has never been MADE to be a co-op game. Sure, you can make it coop like any other game, just look at the last Luigi's mansion : they literaly cut Luigi's abilities in half, to give the other half to player 2. It adds nothing to the experience, except forced cooperation, where they confiscate one player tools to give them to the other.

@@terreausore2435 You don't understand, the game was planned to have co-op, however they ultimately decided against it, likely last minute like many other features/plans in the game
To explain for those who do not understand.
Recently (Summer 2019), a modder was messing with Luigi's Mansion on Gamecube and managed to produce a second Luigi model and, from scraps left in the game's data, was able to control it alongside the first Luigi.
However, when they managed to separate the two Luigis, the camera suddenly shifted to split screen, though neither Luigi could be viewed from the second camera. This was not part of the changes the modder was using.
The second Luigi also functioned very similarly to Gooigi in the remake (remember, it was produced almost purely from scrapped data) where they could not open doors and would teleport to the first Luigi when they changed room.
From the unused Luigi-sized Mario and this new split-screen camera, it is very likely multiplayer was intended for the original Luigi's Mansion on Gamecube but was cut part-way into development.

Honestly for those who never played Luigis Mansion on the Gamecube, the remake is a good buy for them. For those who has the original game.... skip the remake
As someone who has played both I think the controls in the remake are simply too clunky for the game to be even nearly as enjoyable as the original

That’s what I was thinking when I first saw it revealed, not everyone had a GameCube, and the original was so expensive before this remake. I am so sick of people saying, “it should have been on the switch”

@@ryan20028 I played it on the new 3ds xl, and the c stick on that thing is absolutely terrible. It's nowhere near as responsive or accurate as the GC c-stick
It takes practice but it is playable with just one.

@@sonickhable but unlike LM1, Dark Moon was initially designed with that control scheme in mind, so Luigi's Moveset was designed to accommodate for it, hence the addition of the strobulb which simplifies the process of capturing ghosts
It would’ve been so awesome if Nintendo put the Remake on the Switch. It would’ve looked so cool in HD.

Let's be real here, if we did end up getting a remake of this game on the Switch, Nintendo would no doubt charge it for $60, which would be fucking ridiculous seeing as how we're talking about a game that can be beaten in 4 hours. Granted I'm not against the idea, I would love to see a remake of the first Luigi's Mansion game on an HD console, but definitely not for 60 bucks, & Nintendo would no doubt be greedy enough to charge it for that price.
Or make a collection with 1 and 2 together.
As a woman with tiny hands and 3ds xl, I guess I took it for granted. I really loved the 3ds remake. Especially since as I got older I have a lot less consoles out in the living room or sitting around so if I want to play an old game I love that I can pick up my 3ds. It's convenient and I appreciate all the extra content. I know that it's not all top notch but I truly enjoy it almost as much as I enjoyed playing LM thr first time back in 2001. I'm grateful for all the remakes on switch and 3ds. Makes my life so much more convenient. I only really collect Nintendo handhelds. If you're a finisher and then can take your time and enjoy the completion process, like most adults with jobs that don't revolve around gaming, it's a truly enjoyable experience.
I'm sad this barely even mentioned the hidden mansion. It's completely revamped with a lot of the changes made in the PAL version of Luigi's Mansion and more. After how many times I've played the original, the remake's hidden mansion was refreshingly challenging.

12:28 - This is likely false, actually. It was recently discovered through modding that co-op was likely planned for the original, but was scrapped. Someone was able to mod the amount of Luigis that were in play, and the result shows this. The game even has a splitscreen function added in when the Luigis separate from each other. Years and years before this, people even found a hidden model of Mario with the Poltergust 3000 attached to him in the files that can be used on Luigi's old animations, but no one was really sure what it was supposed to be used for. With the Mario model and the second Luigi, one can infer that Mario was once Luigi's co-op partner. Likely for the Hidden Mansion, since he would have to be rescued before he can be played (it would also explain why the Hidden Mansion in every version except the PAL version was just the same as the original, if it was intended as a co-op mode). Even then, having Mario playable would've subtracted from what was supposed to be Luigi's adventure, so that could be the reason why it was scrapped. With Gooigi now being a thing, however, Nintendo had all reason to bring back co-op.

If I'm being honest I really wish that this game had the same controls as the second game.
same when i was getting this game i thought it would have the same or similar controls to dark moon, (since it would make sense) but when i was playing this i just felt disappointed
yeah directly porting GC controls to the 3DS doesn't really make sense, especially when you, y'know, have a sequel to the game that's already on the 3DS and could have used that control style which was designed for the 3DS.
That would have been a really cool reason for me to buy and replay the 3DS version. I think LM2's controls are even better than the original on the GC.
So, how long until a game comes out with achievements ranked: "easy", "moderate", "hard", "impossible", "screw you, Jirard!" ?

i dont understand why the rating was lowered to just play it (from finish it). multiplayer is optional, and the first playthrough (and maybe second) is all you need if youre not completing it
Because he's the COMPLETIONIST: the whole point of his reviews is to look at it from someone who wants to 100%. however I've seen his views as a completionist to be a little controversial since sometimes for most games it's not required to get the game 100%... but still.
But his "finish it" rating is literally for games to just... play normally for one playthrough, without resorting to COMPLETING it. So why would he say "do less than one playthrough" for a game he once thought a casual viewer should, well... FINISH, not complete?

That's immediately what came to mind for me as well. Hardest gold in the original by a mile, and you can't even use the faster succ in the hidden mansion for it (which I heard was removed anyway).
Yeah from my personal experience trying to do that, it was pretty agonizing.

Sir Weston is a little easier on the remake than in the original, due to the ice physics not being as godawful.

@@silvskill5358 about that, i find nobody talks about the gyro controls they added. It's not overbearing or anything. You can tilt your system back and forth to look up and down and nobody mentions that. I never had any problems with the controls at all.
Don't worry, you're not alone at all. The 3DS remake is pretty much the only reason I ever played the game, and I loved it.
Oh hey, this is the new game plus of the episode that introduced me to the completionist! Boy, sure been a long while since then and I'm glad I got introduced to this channel way back when
i LOVE your new game+ intro! always gets me hyped, and i totally agree with this game! i was super excited when it got a port, but that quickly turned to outright rage when it became obvious that i would need at least 2 players to complete it. some of my fondest memories of the Gamecube was THIS game, and i still have my guide for it =) heck, when im feeling under the weather and am stuck in bed, ill fire up my poor wheezing gamecube and ill try to see if i can get the worst house in a single run.

@@mattford6848 well back than we had no way of knowing something like this was ever in a game like luigis mansion, but now a days we are able to scan through a games files to find secrets and features that have been scrapped. Just recently it was discovered that there was a 2nd player option in the original luigis mansion

It's there, but it's very rudimentary. It goes unused, as there is no way to access it in the base game. A dataminer last summer found a way to spawn a second Luigi from the game's code, and he can be controlled via a second controller. The second Luigi, when far way enough from the first one, makes the game split into a split screen view. He has a hard time opening doors (it takes ~15 seconds) but he can latch onto the same ghost as the first Luigi. However, as this mode went unused, it is still a little buggy. When in split screen, the second Luigi goes invisible, as well as other objects.

Luigi's mansion will always hold a special place in my heart for being my first console game on my first home console, i remember opening both of them on christmas morning at my grandparents house in quebec and setting it up in one of their little rooms. such memories!

The reason it's on the 3ds and not on switch is because luigis mansion was originally designed for a 3d effect on gamecube.

I loved Luigi´s Mansion back in the day and I still find myself humming the theme tune in dark and spooky places.

Tbh this review sounded more like nitpicking to me. "Too short? Oh we'll add more content. What do you mean that's too much content? we did exactly what you asked for!"
The completionist reviews are usually about whether or not you should complete or play a game. They were criticizing that the new content added to the game isn't worth completing 100% and that it's a chore instead of fun

@@doctoradventure413 The thing is, the new stuff isn't really tedious. The achievements are harmless, the only new stuff I could see actually being tedious is replaying the game 12 times for each rank, THAT I can understand. Also the complaint about the frame rate only happened because they played the entire game in multiplayer mode, Single player is pretty smooth. Also the complaint about the controls, honestly, they just suck at the game. After a few hours when the game first came out I mastered the controls, I'm not saying they're better than the original game but they are by no means bad. If they had practiced a bit more I'm sure they would've gotten better with them but it seems like Jirard's first time playing the remake was for this specific review. It just didn't seem very well informed to me.
The content is meaningless and adds almost no value to the game meaningful content would be entirely new levels characters or weapons and mechanics and sure the remake delivers on some aspects but overall there’s not a real reason to play this version instead of the GameCube or an emulated copy

Controls affect everyone. And they suck
They really are. I enjoyed this game a lot, and I played through it multiple times! Obviously not 100% but I enjoyed speedrunning the main campaign 😂
To be honest, this is the case for a lot of games. Allot of games just weren't meant to be completed. Take the new Yooka Laylee, I am never going to 100% it. My experience with is going to be infinitely better than the Completionist's.
Yeah. I explained this to a friend IRL once. He isn't neccesarily rating the game on how good it is. Obviously it plays a factor. A horrible awful game isn't worth completing just on merit that it sucks and isn't fun to play. But even an amazing game can be not worth completing if some tasks are just, super tedious. Overly difficult. Often with little to no reward. Whatever the reason may be.
So even a great amazing game can get a rank lower than "Complete it". While a less amazing game can get the highest rank just cause, completing it may not be too hard or tedious to do.

According to one of his videos, apparently a huge portion of the audience would skip that, so I’m willing to bet that either A) it was basically a waste of effort, so why bother OR B) it was negatively impacting his videos in the algorithm.
Just my guess, though - take that with a grain of salt.
@@ShermTank7272 is right. In fact, I'd skip his videos of games I hadn't played yet altogether because the "skip spoilers" section wouldn't just skip the story ending but also the completion rewards. I wanted to know the completion rewards but not the story ending, so I just wouldn't watch his vids at all if I hadn't played the game he was reviewing. Now that he doesn't put story spoilers in the videos, I can watch everything he puts out.

Fun fact the original GameCube Game was supposed to have co-op in it. It was recently found in the game’s code and if by hack a second Luigi is added with controller functionality the camera does move and scale to keep both Luigi’s in the shot, and if the Luigi’s were too far away from each other the game will go into split screen (necessary camera mechanics were implemented), plus the second player just like Gooigi can’t interact with doors and other stuff. It is assumed that because of time constraints and because it was very glitchy Nintendo decided to not put it in. It also could’ve harmed the frame rate as well.
This review is the 2019 version of "too much water".

Grezzo is the remake and remaster company. They made Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask of 3DS, Links Awakening for Switch, and now Luigi's Mansion.

i have one friend who thinks the 3DS is the perfect console and every first party game on there including remakes are the best versions of it
he also thinks that the switch is trash, as well as literally anything not released on the 3DS

You are correct. There is no accessible multiplayer in the final release. However, after some people dug into the game's code, there was a scrapped multiplayer mode in the game! It spawns a second Luigi, and when they get farther away, the camera actually splits into two! Both Luigi's can also latch onto the same ghost! This is all in the game's code! However, since it went unused, it's still buggy. The second Luigi and other objects become invisible on the second screen, the GBH has either very limited functionality or doesn't even work at all, and the second Luigi has a very hard time opening doors (it takes roughly 15 seconds on average to do so, and opening doors "stops time" for the other Luigi and everything around him). With a few hacks, people have made it playable for the most part (as in nothing really disappears if it goes into split screen), but it is still a little buggy (GBH and opening doors). You guys should probably give it a look! In my opinion, it is my childhood dream come true.

As someone who never got the chance of playing the original GC's LM, I think the 3ds's remake is a wonderful chance of playing for 1st time. I had a very good time with it I now appreciate why the game is loved, is full of charming (despite being, in terms of pure gameplay, repetitive and linear regarding progression, the game is truly open on backtracking).
I consider myself one of the very few people who had also a good with game controls, idk, the giroscope works wonders as second stick, Im baffled with most people found it terrible

I never got to play this game on the game cube but ive always wanted to so im glad they remade this for 3ds i bought it asap and i was not disappointed, i liked it way more than dark moon and the newest title for the switch

I really like the 3ds version of the game it was a lot of fun for me a newcomer of the series I think its really fun.
Actually the first game was originally going to have co-op mode but they couldn’t get it to work.
Also, there was actually a multiplayer mode in the original, where you can play as Mario after you saved him. But it was scrapped. There is a Mario model in the game's data which has been adjusted (made slightly taller) to hold the Poltergust properly. Gooigi's sole purpose is to include that original multiplayer idea in the remake. That's the only reason he exists.
