  • Don't pay that kind of paper money for this stuff. The solution is cheap and easy for just a little more effort.

I would love to do this: Buy the motor, fast dry epoxy, and a small desk vice, but I don't have to do all that to save like $20-30 for all four. I want to get in, fix it, and finish with

Ok, I just did this and I have some feedback.
    1) Thanx for this video, I would have never tried this if I didn't see this.
    2) I found the 4pack of motors on ebay for about $15 shipped.
    3) TAKE YOUR TIME PRYING OPEN THE PLASTIC! it's not totally evident from this video but the plastic "halves" are stuck together quite well. I had a tough time even getting a razor blade in there but kept at it with a new (sharp) utility blade. Once open, you can see there is actually a little channel where factory adhesive goes, so...just plan on taking your time.
    4) He kinda skims over it, but the old motor will have a gear on it that you have to remove and put on the new shaft. Once you gently pry the old motor up, you'll see what I'm talking about as the shaft slides outta the white worm gear. Again, take your time. I had to hold the old shaft with needle nose vice grips and carefully work the gear off the old shaft with a pair of pliers while not damaging the teeth.
    5) Took about 2 hours including taking the door panel off, but it's satisfying now that I'm done.

Yeah, I skimmed over it because my job is dealing with servicing pressed on stuff like this and it comes naturally to me. Get a vice and set the old motor in there, then you can use two prying tools to pry against the vice to pull off the gear easily. To install the gear, just use your vice as a press, as the shaft goes completely through the motor. I would caution against a razor on the housing or you might end up at the hospital. But all the ones I've done crack apart fairly easily.

@@CrabSpirits Thx! Yeah, I put the old motor in a vice and took my time. When I put that gear on the new motor shaft, I had the motor on the vice and gave it slight taps until it went down far enough.
WRT the plastic housing...man! Mine must've been glued together by a pro. There were absolutely zero gaps anywhere wide enough to stick a screwdriver (well, except for one tiny spot...where I worked in the edge of a razor... carefully!).

@@SWells679 You can find those bits all the way down to almost razor sharp size. Whatever one I had splits it easily, so perhaps I should have mentioned that.

I purchased the same kit on eBay for $14 and I did exactly what you did just swap the motors and that’s it fixed. People may ask how to open them. Well in my case I use a knife and put the edged of the knife in the little notch where the case its glued and I tap it lightly with a hammer to crack it open. Trust me it’s not that bad to open if you do it correctly and it is way easier than using a flat head bit

Do you have a video on removing the door panel? It is very discouraging when the pieces no longer fit properly because they were not removed correctly.

On splitting the two halves: if you have a small flat head #00, generally used for working on small electronics, use it. I used that along with tapping it in and going along the seam with a hammer. Also, at the base of the actuator along the split, the #00 flat head can fit by just pushing it in. When you see how it splits, you'll get an idea as to how to keep going.

@@CrabSpirits Well, I don't know man...it makes sense to me. $140+ dollars for a tiny motor? No way!! I'd rather put in a little work. And I just saw a video of how to take out the insert from the shaft, just like any other tiny motor. Similar to splitting the two halves, tap it out.

@@crazylegs85 just did it myself. You need something pretty strong to tap the shaft out. I first tried some nails that would fit but those just bent. Ended up grindng down a nail punch. Good luck folks.

In the video he does state that it is a round shaft motor. However, I just did this as well but with a D shaft motor and it still worked. The pinion that you insert on the shaft fits really well on the D shaft motor as well.
