i've just begun picking, and while i'm doing well with basic master padlock i'm now fighting with the sparrows revolver and an Abus 65/50. I've become fascinated with all the different kind of lock out there and this video just made it way more fascinating. Thank you this is going right at the top of my favorite bar for easy reference!
Who would have thought that a hour long TH-cam video would keep me so captivated. I hate to think how long this took you to film. This could be considered as the lock pickers "Bible" for a beginner. Great job.
This video has just raised the bar for all other beginners lockpicking tutorials. I’ve been watching lock picking videos for many years and I still struggle. I have realised where I’ve been going wrong watching this video lol Your explanation & demonstrations are fantastic. This is a perfect video to watch over & over again and you will find things you missed on previous watchers lol This must have taken you a very long time. Thank you very much for making this awesome video. I love all of your videos, they are always fascinating.
Thank you, Lock Noob. This is by far the best video for any beginner in lock picking. I had (he said whilst blushing) often wondered how some tools are being used correctly and how do I recognise without a key, what sort of lock I'm facing. You have answered all my questions in a way that is easy-to-understand. Since yesterday, I have watched it three times. There is just so much information. Thanks again, Lock Noob.
A very useful skill to have in an emergency. I watched a few lock picking lawyer videos years ago and tried picking the master lock on my gun safe i had at the time with nothing more than a couple hair pins, had the lock open in less than 60 seconds and was genuinely shocked considering i had never picked a lock before. Ive never bought master locks since
That's a great amount of super useful information all in one place for beginners and also for anyone who's yet to branch out from pin tumblers. Awesome work Dr Noob
I'm neither a newbie nor a pro, but can honestly say this is the best, most informative lock-picking video I've ever seen, I wish it had been around when I was starting out as it's an invaluable source of information - and not just for newbies either! Thank you!
🙂 I agree, this is one of the best informative videos I seen, sure I will return to it.. Keep picking and enjoying the puzzles of opening locks.. Have a great day.
49:15 The important thing to tell here to the beginners is that you don't apply heavy pressure and try to force counter-rotation with the pick. Instead, you should apply constant pressure to the pin and *carefully release tension* to see if that gets the pin moving. The real logic is to detect the binding pin with the pick, apply some pressure to the pin (basically enough to push the spring for that pin but not move the whole core) and the release the tension enough that the binding doesn't prevent the pin from moving. This accomplishes two things: (1) you don't break picks while trying to force the pins with heavy tension and (2) you can use really heavy tension to make sure you can find a binding pin and not just some crap in the lock. It would be nice to learn this technique from the start so it might be worth mentioning it for the most simple pin tumbler lock at the start of the video, too.
By far; one of the most informative, and detailed video on lockpicking that I have ever seen. - Thank you for the time and effort you took in making this instructional video. 😎👌
I love the explanation of disc detainers. I've reached a certain level of incompetence with conventional pin tumblers but I've never even tried to pick a disc detainer lock (or other styles such as a dimple lock). I wanted to get to a suitably hopeless level with one lock style before learning how to be useless with other types. This video makes me think I might now be ready to make a mess of a wider range! Thank you.
This is a superb video and the disc detainer was covered really well. But the definitive DD lock video was made by Bosnian Bill, it is a masterpiece. Search YT on Bosnian Bill disk detainer lock.
I've been lockpicking for property management companies for several years now. I watch lots and lots of videos. Love watching lockpickinglawyer. This video, was the most informative video I've ever seen. Thank you so much.
So far the best tutorial videos I found in YT that also go in-depth about the mechanism of each lock were from Devian Ollam's channel But this video surpasses all of these by so many levels, I've never seen such an extensive video with so many cutouts to show how each type of lock exactly works Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
This is such an engaging, informative and well made introduction to lock picking. You're a natural teacher, thank you very much for taking the time to help.
Brilliant. You've produced a veritable encyclopedia of picking. Let's hope beginners who see this are encouraged to check out your other, more detailed, videos and fall in love with sport picking. Also amazed by some of the cutaways you've produced, they really illustrate the mechanisms wonderfully.
I have had a lock pick set for decades and muddled through picking locks. Now I understand exactly what I'm attempting to accomplish. Thank you, very informative, and makes my rare occasion to pick a lost key lock much easier.

I have watched many many hours of lock picking videos on TH-cam, some of which are very good, but this is probably the best presented, easiest to follow and most informative video I have found. I have stuck to picking only certain types of lock since I started a couple of years ago and now after watching this I want to start learning to pick others like dimple and lever locks. Thank you for a great tutorial, you should be proud.

I could open it up by sheer luck every once in a while but I couldn't find a reliable technique. But here I am, 7 minutes into this video and trying that motion and it always works! I'm so happy, I was getting really frustrated!)

Of course, many cheap disk detainer locks are missing false gates because manufacturers just don't care about lock security.

Best range of lock tutorial I've seen especially considering I'm looking to broaden my horizons. I only wish videos like this were around when I was a kid as I started picking locks at around 8 years old starting with the pink combination bicycle lock that you displayed, can you please do one on dial combination locks as I know there are ways to shim these locks not all of them are shimmable thanks and keep up the great work.. PS I don't want to cause any issues but do you know what's up with Bosnian bill as I have not seen him post any videos in some time
Great video.. 🇨🇦 Canadian Locksmith since 1995.. always watching and learning daily.. I still get calls for old farm house curtain locks.. Cheers from snowy northern Ontario ❄️
this was awesome thank you ....watched the whole thing because I was stuck on a lock .... I laughed when I saw it was a warded lock ! you made it look easy . Not stuck on that lock anymore either lol . Cheers
a really good video clearly explaining the subject. it is amazing how many other videos assume you know at least some of the picking terminology or lock operation and what it relates to physically when you don't really and are just kind of guessing. your pin tumbler demonstration is about perfect!
I lost the key to my car's roof racks and needed to take them off, I lock picked all four of them with a standard set of picks and took them off very easily and now I'm hooked! Great video
Best vid. I've seen on how to minipulate most locking mechanisms to bypass them. Very informative and simply put so that it's easy to understand. The explanation on how the different locking mechanisms operate followed with the detailed steps taken to bypass them is spot on..great job!
Now let's see a video on how to pick a medeco lock.... Lol. I'm sure there's a way but when I was a locksmith they were guaranteed unpickable. I got to mess with some of them and learner how they worked well enough to be able to rekey some of them but they always had those certain locks that they sold that you couldn't even take them apart. If you lost the key you sent the lock or cylinder to them and they sent you a new one (for a fee of course). If the lock was on something you had to destroy it. On the Marine Corp. base my dad worked on they used medeco locks on the ammo bunkers. If the key gets lost they had to cut the doors off to gain access. Apparently it was a big ordeal to use TORCHS to cut doors off of live ammo bunkers cause there sure ended up being alot of people involved..... It only happened once that I know of while my father worked on base.
I have pinned and saved this video, as it is the most comprehensive video/instruction/review/introduction to the lock-picking enthusiast. THANK you very much for taking your time and making the video with such detailed explanation. Hundred thumbs up i I could... 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant video, it's helped so much and given me more enthusiasm to get back to practicing. Thanks for sharing such great content 👌
Thanks 🙏
thank you so much for this video, I'm new tradesman locksmith from Australia, and this is so helpful.
Great to hear!
Excellent work! Thanks for putting in the time and energy to make a great informational video. I'm 100% an information junkie when it comes to learning how to do anything useful or interesting. You have succeeded in feeding my addiction. 🤤👨🔬 🔒🗝️🧷
You are the hidden gem of TH-cam. Awesome video!
Thank you 😊
Best range of lock tutorial I've seen especially considering I'm looking to broaden my horizons. I only wish videos like this were around when I was a kid as I started picking locks at around 8 years old starting with the pink combination bicycle lock that you displayed, can you please do one on dial combination locks as I know there are ways to shim these locks not all of them are shimmable thanks and keep up the great work.. PS I don't want to cause any issues but do you know what's up with Bosnian bill as I have not seen him post any videos in some time
Hi, Bosnian Bill retired in order to spend more time with his family. He simply decided that he'd done enough videos.
THIS HELPED SO MUCH! I GOT LOCKED OUT OF MY HOUSE BECAUSE I DROPPED MY KEY SOMEWHERE AND THANK YOU!!! SO SO SO MUCH!!!
Really good video that covers many useful methods 🤩🤩🤩 You explain as always detailed, which is a great help for many 🙂👍 keep up the good work ❤

Awesome 😎
I can't wait to share this video with people. It was super thorough and stayed interesting the whole time. Thanks!
Thank you 😊
Good job man!
Thank you 😊
a really good video clearly explaining the subject. it is amazing how many other videos assume you know at least some of the picking terminology or lock operation and what it relates to physically when you don't really and are just kind of guessing. your pin tumbler demonstration is about perfect!
Thanks 😊
Thanks for the content, it's amazing!!
Very kind of you to say, thanks 😊
I lost the key to my car's roof racks and needed to take them off, I lock picked all four of them with a standard set of picks and took them off very easily and now I'm hooked! Great video
Wow...awesome job Ash!!! So when is part 2 coming out? That took a lot of energy nicely done.
Thank you! 😀
Informative, if this doesn't work, a stick of dinamite will
How many people came here because they lost their keys?
I came here because i love how locks are unblocked and it asmr
I have pinned and saved this video, as it is the most comprehensive video/instruction/review/introduction to the lock-picking enthusiast.
