I've watched a lot of your videos, and all are good, in fact you all rock at painting. Years past I worked for a pro painter, taught me many things in a few years, he asked if I knew how to paint, and I said 'Nope' and he said good answer. I remodel, have for years, and am now a good painter, recently started spraying as well and am glad I did. Prep work is crucial for a good job, learned a lot of pointers from you. Thanks for taking time to put up your videos.
One other thing....in your video you allow the gun to 'tilt' down on the lower end of your downward passes and to 'tilt' upwards on the upper end of upward passes. I've been told that you're supposed to hold the gun so the spray pattern hits the painted surface at 90 degrees at all times. Not true?
I'm going to do doors, ceilings, and walls in a house we are rehabing. I plan to put two coats on each wall, etc. so do I take tape, paper, and plastic down after first coat and put it back up before the second? How long should I wait before doing second coat?
Thanks for all of the videos! I have to spray some baseboard and door/windo casing, both are already primed. I also would like to spray walls, ceilings, etc. Do you have any feedback on the Graco LTS 15 from Lowes? Will it do the trick?
@@benjaminmitchell5960 could you use a smaller sprayer and tip if you were shooting for professional look but didnt care too much about time and did not want to brush it on? Do you thin the paint down do you put flow troll on the paint
Questions. 1. With that primer, you dont need ro sand and de-gloss unlsee samding a repair? Do you use a different paint for different doors? Meaning do you use oil based paints in some cases for exterior steel, water based paints for interior wood? 3. Why a 210 tip?
I sprayed some trim with my graco rac x 210 tip using pro classic alkyd acrylic. And have very slight orange peeling. I am going to use Solo on the next job. What tips do you have regarding orange peeling? Should I thin the paint a little with water?
I'll be painting over trim that is already painted with semi-gloss and walls that are painted eggshell. I don't want to have to sand everything. Should I use a bonding primer to avoid that? If so, what do you recommend. Love your videos! Keep it up!
Hey mate nice video, im a painter from Australia. I have been trying out this technique of spraying my trims and I seam to spray the undercoat on fine but when it comes to the top coat I tend to get a few runs. I'm using a water based enamel for top coat and 410 tip with titan sprayer at 2500psi. Also wat psi are you running the gun at?
How do you did paint chips on air sprayed doors and frames. We have a three year old house where all the doors and door jams and window frames were air sprayed. Can we touch up?
I also have the question about spraying 5 panel shaker doors. I struggle getting the inside edges of the panels. What would be the best process to get the inside square edge painted without laying to much paint on and creating runs?
Hi great vid. we are just catching up in the uk with spraying interiors. i have always mist coated with airless but stopped there. after spraying your trim do you mask off your trim and spray finish the final coat to the walls or spray and back roll so that they can be touched in? also do you cut your different colour ceiling line with brush etc.Your help would be greatly appreciated. also i have found that the graco cleanshot stops all spitting and is adjustable for any angle.(great addition)
You are good, but I'll give you a tip on doing doors. I noticed you just went up and down when spraying, you should cross them out too. It makes them more solid. I think you should hit your door edges again to, they suck paint up. I don't mean to be picky, you've got a nice system. I'm going to start using the stir sticks on the top of the doors. Thanks!
What kind of paint do you normally use on doors and mill work? I have used latex before and hand all kinds of issues such as bubbling of paint, door expanding and fitting back in the jambs; and the the paint being soft & rubbing off from carpet install and such. Do you need an acrylic latex or something?

Hey Chris. I have to spray some long boards. If I do one side, let it dry for an hour then flip them to spray other side I get indentations from the supports holding the work pieces in the soft paint on the first side. Any tips on how to avoid this? Thanks for the great videos!

Graco also makes a Fine Finish handheld airless gun, but I could not justify spending $679 for home use. I also like your epoxy for concrete floors videos. Thanks!
Any recommendations for a cheap airless gun or rig? Just looking to use it to blow through some doors and trim in a new construction high end ranch townhouse deal. Lots of custom trim in them crown moulding, wide baseboard, transom windows above interior doors. thanks.
Hey is it better to use a hvlp sprayer vs the airless due to spits? I used the hvlp and loved the results but dear god the over spray due to air was a mess. Do airless perform with less overspray dust?
Hi there Chris, first of all let me thank you for your videos they are very informative. I have a question, I'm thinking about spraying mall my doors and trim and was wondering what tip to use, I want to spray oil based sherwin-Williams enamel with a Titan 440 impact ,can I use 410 FF TIP to spray 6 inch crown moldings and base boards and what PSI would you spray at. Thank you for your videos and for taking the time to share your knowledge.

I have been looking at all kinds of sprayers, don't have the 800 to get a graco from PPG or Sherwin williams. What sprayer are you using and what type of tip? I assume you have a real good top line airless sprayer. Hi Chris, I have a question. I am doing an interior paint job next week and the painter that was in there before me sprayed the walls first before trim and such. What is the best way to mask off the walls before I spray all the trim so I do not get any paint on them? This is for a new construction
Hello Chris, is 6" gun extension really necessary and what device did you use to hang the door so that it can be easily turn it over to spray the other side?
Chris, have you ever tried just using a piece of plywood and screws to link 3 or 4 doors together at the top so they can stand upright in the middle of the room? Put little blocks under them as well. That's what we did at the company I worked for in order to spray doors, though most often we were staining, then spraying several coats of lacquer on them with sanding after the first coat. Made it faster overall. Perhaps you've tried it though, and prefer this method if no sanding is needed. idk
***** No worries. Just wondered if you do that trick. I'm sorta the 'off and on Idaho painter' over in the Idaho Falls area, when I'm not doing framing or concrete anyways. lol

Chris, I'm going to be spraying some doors, jams and trim soon but I'm just wondering when I get a fine finish tip for spaying, on the Pail of sherwin Williams paint it recommends a .015 - .021 tip size, is it still okay to use a .010 - .011 tip or do I have to thin the paint to use these tips? Chris, what do you think of the Graco sprayers sold in the Big Boxx Stores ( Lowes, Home Depot ). The LTS models and XR7 and XR9 models ? For someone only spraying maybe less than once per mont, and small jobs at that ( a few doors and some trim ) ?
Just a tip (if you are very picky). Do not spray sides first. Spray face. Flip door. Spray sides. Spray face. I'm ocd with it though and deal with high end work.
Thanks for the video! I sprayed some doors recently (my first time) and I got a lot of big drips. Do you think that's because I was moving too slowly or because my tip was too big? I think I had a 311 in. Any advice would be helpful since my first set of doors looked crummy. Thanks :)
A 311 tip is just fine for doors. In another video he uses a bigger tip also. Make sure not to pull the trigger and start spraying on the door. Always start and stop off of the door. It should only spit when you first hit the trigger or when you let off of it. So start and stop about 6 inches above or below the door. You can move a little slower than him but make sure you keep moving at a consistent pace. I'm actually going to spray 10 interior doors tomorrow with a Graco and a 311 tip. I'm not as good as him but I know he would agree with my advice.
I rewatched your video on painting trim and somehow I must have missed about 30 seconds of the video but it answer my questions. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the good work.
Hey, thanks for your replies. I particularly liked the technique about squeezing the trigger once and keeping the flow going so you don't get spitting. I bought a mid-level Spray-Tech rig and a Graco 'Contractor' gun. Spitting (a problem at first) seems to be minimized using a Graco RAC-X 212 FFT and making a conscious decision to FULLY squeeze the trigger to start each pass. Question: where'd you get the 6" extension? Graco doesn't make a 6", their shortest is 10".
If your gun spits there is something wrong. Ie tip blown, gun filter clog debris in paint or even build up. I always strain my enamels prior to spraying and never run hot solvents through my sprayer, lacquer thinner will gum up old latex quick, one thick to remove a spit mark is to use tape and lightly touch the paint mark, it will draw towards the tape an smooths out like glass
Congrat, you've made a lot of nice video!!! After watching them, i will buy my first pump :-) What do you recommend between graco 490 and titan 440i. Graco cost a litle bit more, but is not an object in the choice. I will gladly make a donation
