And in addition damaged important wiring and left electrical components under the hood disassembled and in disarray. I would have turned this car down or at least asked for $1000 up front.

Wow I never heard that one before. But back in the day I was way into DirecTV hacking. Just recently I was looking through some old boxes and found my old smart card writers and bunch of interfaces and some stuff I can't even remember what I used it for at all. But back in the late 90's it was awesome always trying to stay one step ahead of DirecTV and Dish. I'll never forget moving that big dish to a different position to pick up a different satellite depending on what channel you were trying to find. Man we have come a long way.
I wonder if he said it started after a new ECM was it just what you got. Perhaps the key was never programmed to the salvage yard computer or maybe a VIN mismatch no start aside from everything else. I feel your frustration and look forward to the next video. Great work Ivan.

Question: is it correct to assume that the ECM is bad when it can't be scanned and the powers and grounds to it are fine? I mean it could also be the wiring to the OBD connector, or maybe the wiring to the CAN bus that causes the failure to reach it right?
I hate it when things like this happen. I had a pt cruiser show up with a fan in-op. new fans, new tipm. Found the green crusties on the main power feed to the fans below the battery, wire rotted in half. Fixed that and it all works. owner cries about my diag fee (1.5) hours because the last shop charged them 1800 dollars for the parts and install. did it need those parts? who knows. but none of them fixed the problem of the car overheating due to no fans. I stood firm on my diag. told them to get their old parts back from the other shop as they are probably good.
Just built another Studebaker V8. Carburettor and points ignition. If no start you dont need a scan tool, DVM or even a light bulb. Check for spark and fuel. New points cost $5. It is insane to have such unnecessary complexity that has no benefit, not even better mileage. I have a Titan and love it but Stude gets 20 mpg and is EMP proof, Titan gets 14.
This is exactly why a little bit of knowledge is dangerous. Smart enough to find the ECM and dumb enough to cut wires because some rubbish website said so.
I wonder if the VIN is causing the limo home. Seems unlikely but wondering if updating the VIN or making sure the ECM has the right software would fix it
Uhhhhhhmm, that engine/vehicle looks like it's been under water at some point. How presumptuous to ask for a discount. RED FLAG!!! Ivan, you're too kind!
Thank you for all the great videos and tips you are a SAINT! Quick question is there a scanner like your LAUNCH X431 PRO3S+ V5.0 that can do the same tests and functions but is just for Nissan specifically? I would only be working on my 2004 Nissan Armada and love the options your scanner has but was hoping there might be a less expensive option if I didnt need to scan other OEM brands. Or is there a different bi-directional scanner you recommend with some bells and whistles for my 2004 Nissan Armada that’s in the $500 range or so? Thank you in advance!!! Sorry for the long post!
Discount? If someone brought a vehicle to me in that state, butchered up by the owner himself, I'd charge him extra or send him packing. Some nerve the guy has.

Man, I have a similar issue with my brother in laws truck. 2012 Titan. He replaced the computer, IPDM, crank sensor. That power block on the positive cable. Among other things I guess. Took it to Nissan, they didn’t fix it, then to a local shop, 13 weeks, they can’t fix it. But we’re nice enough to tear it apart. Ugh! They did say the wipers work until they plug in the IPDM, then they stop. I haven’t verified yet. Waiting for my brother-in-law to get me a wiring diagram. It does seem to drain the battery, assuming a short. But all he gets is U1000, no communication. Oh and looks like security system is on to me. Is there a site where you take in work? That may be an option. We are in Michigan. Not sure how much a tow would cost lol. Hoping I can figure it out.

Question: is it correct to assume that the ECM is bad when it can't be scanned and the powers and grounds to it are fine? I mean it could also be the wiring to the OBD connector, or maybe the wiring to the CAN bus that causes the failure to reach it right?
Yes, you also need to check the CAN lines with a scope if necessary :)
A real basket case. The term handyman covers a wide range of skills and perceived skills
Well at least he tried and we have all been there !
Owner is getting charged extra after cutting wires. These companies are cheap AF, if the wires were not needed, They wouldnt be included!
What a history! My head was spinning
Cutting wires is always the best repair technique. 😂
Parts cannon goes BOOOOM!
Just had a similar situation at my shop about 1 month ago. About 3 hours of back and forth but got it figured out.
11:40 - PIN 1 is left down and you check the right up pin, which is PIN 4. First check in useless.
After the hack job on the computer wires he has a lot of nerve
Its looks so promising!
But no discounts sorry! Man
@16:12 Ivan... is that steam coming from your ears ...? HAHAHAHAHA!
Ivan you need a disclaimer on every intro, something like a vice grip garage have :)
Discount? If someone brought a vehicle to me in that state, butchered up by the owner himself, I'd charge him extra or send him packing. Some nerve the guy has.
Hard to believe he watches Ivan's channel... If he does, he would have been way too embarrassed to drop that thing off in that condition... Sometimes I think the internet has dumbed everyone down... Website says hack my ecm wires, but it didn't work... Hey Ivan, you're gonna have to fix this for me for nuthin'.... LOL
You have the tenacity of a Bulldog, this study is the Red Flag Wagon from the DIY to the, I spent a lot screwing around so I need you to reduce your price. You need to be Knighted my friend.
Looks like Ivan and his brain are Masochists; they just LIVE for these basket cases!😂
Seeing that battery terminal connection wrapped in duct tape explains it all. 😝
That was a safety measure put in by Ivan so the unsecured ECM doesn't short out.
@@NextLevelAutoDiagnosticsLLC ok, that makes more sense.
Only about 10 minutes in. I’d need at least a 500$ security deposit to even consider this project. This should be good! 👍👍🇺🇸. I’d bet it will be a NPR, maybe some OPR.
I would want 4 hours, which is $800, just to scan it. Go away, don't come here. I have plenty of real work to do, that does not waste my time.
@@scrappy7571 I have no problem helping people out in certain situations, but from the sounds of this I’d feel better with a bit of a deposit. But then again, I’ve gotten screwed more times by some family members than I care to mention. 😅😅
@@scrappy7571 Every case is somewhat unique. I’m sure Ivan has been down this road a few times and has it under control.
You can ask the "handyman" how often be gives discounts and how that puts food on his family's table...?
i dont envy u ivan some of the vehicles people bring u are a nightmare especially when they try to fix it themselves.
Ivan, some Nissans (especially older ones) don't have automatic vin scanning. . .
