Now THIS Is A Truly TACTICAL Game | Ghost Recon (2001)

  • Hey guys welcome back and today we're taking a look at a classic, the original Ghost Recon! While for some of you this is a trip down memory lane for me this is a first time look at where the series started! Ghost Recon has definitely come a very long way and while I do enjoy the newer games they've made I have to say there is something extremely satisfying about successfully executing a well planned maneuver.
    So far I've really enjoyed my first taste of this game and I'll definitely be coming back to it so be sure to let me know if you guys want to see more! :)

    What do you guys think about that squad mechanic? Would you want to see Ghost Recon change from an open world small team game back to this more linear squad management style shooter? I'm definitely curious what you guys think!

    • @---uk1xt
      @---uk1xt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I'd like this style of gameplay with Wildlands/breakpoint graphics and some future soldier style cinematics. Forget about the pvp

    • @notoriousbc6090
      @notoriousbc6090 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think an open world with the squad mechanic would work really well. Different squad sizes needs to be in the next game. 4 man Recce team, 10 man assault team would be good. They definitely need to sort out the ai team in the next game.

    • @theninjaneer4105
      @theninjaneer4105 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep the team still a small squad or you can increase it a little. Keep the open world/size of the game, the less linear the better, it adds to the replay value (though you can still have linear moments for story purposes). Bring back this squad management style, and slow down the gameplay to be less arcade-y. Slower gameplay with more control over your squad brings more weight to your decision making. Finally for the love of God, if you include pvp, make it so people get punished for just running around in the open instead of just rewarding people for running in circles in the open (taking advantage of hitbox glitches) waiting for the enemy to shoot at them only to not hit them and shoot them after and 1 tapping them, with no penalty for their aim just after sprinting and strafing 10 seconds straight. The current pvp in breakpoint is a mess, because at the root of the game its a tactical shooter but its also trying to be an arcade shooter to keep up with the like of modern day crap shooters like modern warfare and battlefield unfortunately. People buy Ghost Recon games to play a tactical game.

      @@---uk1xt Yeah as much as I enjoyed the PVP in Future Soldier, the devs haven't been able to make anything good in the newer titles. In my opinion it's best they just leave it for after if they want and focus on the PVE.

    • @gameragodzilla
      @gameragodzilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The real time control over my squad was also something that made the game easier than the classic Rainbow Six games as well. Rather than having to plan out the individual routes of every squad for the whole mission and redoing everything if I screw up, I can tackle things in more manageable chunks and change strategies when something inevitably goes awry.

    For me, this is more than just a game.2002, I am 8 years old, I live in the small town of Zeya in the far east of Russia. I just went to the second grade of school, we lived very poorly and I always dreamed of a computer, and at the beginning of the school year they bought me a PC. How glad I was then, there was a ghost recon icon on the desktop green windows xp meadow. I came home after school, my mother was at work at a hairdresser, my father worked at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the house was not empty, a dachshund and a cat were running around at home, I immediately sat down at the computer, poured hot tea, it was snowing outside the window and I played for a long time to this wonderful game. Then it seemed that everything was so unimportant, that everything would always be like this, good and calm.
    Now I am 29 years old, I have been living and working in China for a long time and cannot return home yet. That cat and dog are long gone, the parents are no longer young. I remember those times with warmth, this game is more than an ordinary game for me, with it there are a lot of good memories of the past, of the good past.

      We're the same age, I had almost the exact same experience although I live in Scotland, it was my uncles old pc. He got a new one and I finally had a computer. On it was this game and a bunch of other similar ones. Swat 3, rainbow six, etc.
      Also the snow was rain for me and I only had one dog. Still at some point we both sat and played this game and now years later we look back fondly on those memories together even though we're thousands of miles apart.
      That's pretty damn cool.

    I was 10 or 11 when this game came out and I put many many hours into it. I remember being so hyped reading about it in PC Gamer magazine before it released since I loved all the other Tom Clancy movies and Rainbow Six games. Despite the tough learning curve for the age I was, it was a blast! I remember my favorite special character was the sniper "Jack Stone" with the ski mask. I had made up a personality for him in my head and imagined he was some sort of cold-blooded badass type guy with a raspy Solid Snake like voice lol. In one mission, I earned the Medal of Honor with him and that blew my freakin mind haha. Mainly played as him for every mission unless I needed a rifleman/rocket guy.
    God, this game rocked!!! Graphics were stunning for the time too. The draw distances were unparalleled at the time, even for PC. Luckily my dad had a decent machine to run it on. This first mission was very chill and each mission would significantly increase the difficulty and enemy numbers. I could talk about this game all day. Loved the expansions too. Corporate greed in modern gaming will probably never give us a tactical shooter like this again :(

    I'd love to see more of this! This is personally my favorite Ghost Recon and my favorite tactical shooter in general. I love this game because of the lethality, smart friendly & enemy AI, tactical options, replayability, overall immersion, and the fact that it does all of this while avoiding the superfluous mechanics of sims such as ArmA which makes this easy to learn and hard to master. Also, there's an amazing mod for it called Heroes Unleashed which perfects the game in so many ways that it's impossible to list here and I highly recommend it. Whether you want to play that before or after playing through vanilla is up to you and you can't go wrong either way.

My first game in the series ended up being Future Soldier. So I ended up buying the original Ghost Recon on Steam and boy does it bring back memories of the original Rainbow Six. I thought every fps game was going to be exactly like this til the end of time now I seen that pink hair girl cut scene & I literally want to bludgeon the CEOs at their board meeting. Anyways, I got this game a few months after Rainbow 6 came out & I feel like this game (along w/ reading The Ranger Handbook) made me a better player in all future games. I know it's your 1st vid w this game but I'd say once you get better at the keyboard layout...first, don't worry about recon mode unless there's some ambush you're setting up or hostage rescue. I usually leave it on suppress constantly. Second, move teams to better angles, faster, in real time & put them on hold if things get heavy. If you want to achieve experience in other games play this for a while to learn better tactics/teamwork. It will carry over. Lastly, utilize your 203 more, especially in big maps. Double lastly, get the ranger handbook.

    Ghost recon needs to return to this formula. Have missions take place in large sandbox environments where you are given free reign to tackle objectives how you want and in any order. Wildlands and Breakpoint are terrible ghost recon games but they're not bad games per se (well breakpoint isn't now) it's nonsensical to have a military shooter be open world like far cry, it's a big world with a whole lot of nothing and why tf are there shops for you to buy and trade at? It's a military shooter not fkn far cry or gta. Just have a more grounded setting with grounded equipment and cosmetics and a grounded story.
