I know my sister in law had a similar problem last month when they moved to Wales. They got charged a fortune by the removal company for changing the date and it was out of their control. I think the council holding up the transfers etc should be the ones in trouble! Disgusting! Councils here in Australia have had to pay for major delays, even accommodation for the new owners while the paperwork is sorted. This is the problem with government agencies, they put in new systems without ensuring it's suitable and properly installed by the contracted date or the staff aren't trained to use it. In Queensland the health department paid hundreds of millions to IBM for a new pay system that was 2 years late on delivery then went live with no testing resulting in mayhem with some overpaid by thousands, others not paid for 2 months. To rub salt in the situation the state government paid the company a bonus! Should have held back any payment and then had them in court for breach of contract. Hope things get sorted before you have to head down the legal route.
Sorry about your house move stress. If it makes you feel any better I’ve been on the market for 6 months. One buyer pulled out, 2 offers withdrawn, switched agents, reduced price twice, now have an offer at full asking but they haven’t sold theirs. Lost an onward purchase due to buyer pulling out. Fed up of tidying and cleaning. No further forward but money wasted in the process!
