I understand your point about the rubber ring, but with an IP 56 rating, the Amflow PL is built to handle water jets. No need to stress over a little water
Water ingress is common on loads of bikes, either via cable entry points, headset assemblies, and top tube e-bike controls. The ingress is massively increased when spraying a hose at it. The Fox compression lever is normal. It's due to how the cam seats onto the metering rod inside.
We have noticed the issue you are currently experiencing and apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you. You mentioned your concern about the waterproof capability of the control display due to the lack of a rubber ring. The PL Carbon is rated at IP 56 (withstand water jets), making it suitable for riding in various weather and road conditions. However, it's advisable to avoid leaving the bike parked for extended periods in rainy, sandy, and similar environments. Additionally, our product design has taken this into account, with drainage holes specifically designed in the frame. We also noticed the issue of noise when using the brakes. For this, we recommend that you visit our website to find the nearest dealer or contact the dealer from whom you purchased the bike to schedule a comprehensive inspection. Ride safe and happy new year.
@@dave_waudby Dave, would you be willing to send me photos of the display unit off the bike with a rule as reference? I would like to create a o-ring mold that might help with the issue. I would share the model freely if it ends up working out.
Water is the enemy of electronic equipment. Maybe the splash proof design is safe if it is only splashed/exposed to rainwater, but if it is sprayed with water, it will leak too... this can be fixed with silicone glue in the body cable holes and other parts.
I agree/hope it won't be a problem, I'm just highlighting the fact water can get in under the display. I have an ip67 rated kenevo SL which failed due to water ingress so I'm naturally a bit sceptical 🤷
The same thing applies to all bikes with a top tube controller. The v2 Levo back in 2019 was the same and suffered TCU failures as a result. Personally I only use both a a stiff and soft bristle brush then if necessary a damp cloth, to clean a bike...never uses a hose. To seal the top tube controller is simple. Use liquid gasket and smear a little grease on the controller side of the joint. The gasket will set but then only stick to the top tube and not the controller so it remains easy to remove. It is possible to make a neoprene gasket but the joining ledges on the Amflow look so narrow I doubt any gasket of that sort would stay in place. As for cable ports just ram some grease into them.
I have the MT5 brakes and they have been really good. No pad movement at all. Two things you can try to make them better:1 upgrade the pads to sintered. Magura brand only uses resin pads no matter what level. 2 your pads are probably the 9P series (two pads linked together). Try the 8Ps. They are the individual pads that bolt in, and should reduce any movement or play
Cheers for the info, I've just ordered some galfer pads on someone's recommendation, they are what you call the 8ps so will see what difference they make.
@ your welcome. Also don’t forget to lightly sand and clean your rotors, to get the old pad material off, before you bed in the new brakes. I’ve made that mistake before
It’s the same on my shock, going to change it anyway just deciding on whether to go for a coil or better air can?! The Avinox system is waterproofed, as in the battery, motor and display so I’m not too bothered by that! I’ve changed pretty much everything on the bike! The only thing left is the shock. Not a fan of those brakes either, first thing to go!
Hi mate. Yes had multiple magura brakes. The mT5 and mT7 I’ve had all suffered from the noise under braking and wheel “wobble” they are decent brakes but I strongly recommend the race pads for a quick cheap fix. The difference in braking power was unbelievable. Cheers 👍🏽
@ hi yes sorry. The magura branded race pads. It’s won’t stop the wobble on the wheel as its the magnets on the calliper piston moving slightly. But it will make night and day difference to the braking power.
It always amazes me that manufacturers that are making OFF ROAD Products don't seem to truly test their products out in the real world. If you're a manufacturer and don't understand your product is going to be in Mud & Water a lot of the time....then it's not fit for purpose! Yes everyone is going to jet wash or hose off their bikes....or whatever. Hope V4 brakes for me 👍 love them. Check regularly Disc Rotor fixings, they can come loose a lot on ebikes. I live very close to Dalby Forest, if you're looking for something new to ride, get in touch, I know loads of other great stuff to ride in the area.👍
The electronics are sealed inside and out.. All bike frames have water ingress points. The only thing they need is a water exit point at the lowest point of the frame to avoid pooling. It's not possible to completely seal a frame.
Been on MT5’s for 4 years on my SC Bullit. Not noticed the pad knock. But Galfer is the way to go: fantastic with the Magura’s and last ages - as with all callipers, you must centre carefully, use front and rear roughly equally and not drag the rear 😮. As to power, they have more than enough, even for Dalby off-piste or Dyfi flat out. Lastly, the issue with the MT5’s is that despite what Magura say, the brake lever body’s plasticky body isn’t quite as strong as a metal body. If it cracks in a crash, just replace with Shimano XT (8001) to create the legendary Shigura set up which is, frankly so good, it’s almost (but not quite) worth hoping you break a lever body to justify buying two new Shimano ones!!! I also use the floating Magura disks (I saw you bike doesn’t). They definitely give a bit of a rocking movement for and aft with the brakes on and it doesn’t cause any issues with riding whatsoever, whatever the hind-brain try’s to convince otherwise; and I’ve never had fade on the longest fast steep descents in the U.K. (not ridden them in Whistler, France etc, so can’t comment on the really big stuff).
Thanks for info, rode Dalby off piste couple days ago and to be fair the mt5's performed good on the steep tech. Will stick with them and see how they go. Peaks ride in couple days so will see what they're like on some longer fast descents.
I swapped out the brakes and Rotors for Sram Code Ultimate Stealth and HS2. Magura are not a brake I get on with. I've gas the motor and battery out of mine to change the brakes and remove the dropper cable for my Axs Reverb. There should be no problem with a bit of expected water ingress in the frame. The battery has a metal case and fully sealed as are the connectors. The motor is also fully sealed with the same sealed connectors. The system is IP67 rated. So a little moisture isn't an issue.
I've had two levo sl motors fail due to water ingress, they are ip67 so I just don't trust the tests they do to determine the ip rating. Reducing water ingress no mater what the ip rating is has got to be a good thing in my book🤷
The sphincter is the only perfect seal. It lets air out while retaining liquid until you get to your 70 's. I Will add a little strip of tape around the edges of the screen on mine. E=mtb²
Not sure water ingress is an issue here. As long as the electronic or moving components are waterproof, I don't see an issue with water in the frame and on the battery. The battery is an electrical item not electronic. Water in the motor or control unit would definitly be an issue and moisture on your sim card will be bad, even if its just vapour. As long as the bottom of the battery tube has adequate drainage, it should be fine. I have the Trek Fuel EXe and notice that there is no seal around the bottom where the motor is, and all types of shit, mud and washing water can get in there. This is why you mustn't ever clean your bike upside down or with a pressure washer. The EXe has a removable battery with a simple non-waterproof cover and the whole thing is dirty when I remove it. I guess this water and dirt comes from the head stock as well as the cables and maybe by the side of the TQ controller. I had the same concerns when I bbought the bike but the controller seams pretty well sealed in isolation. No idea about the motor, but I guess the same rules apply to Amflow too. Thanks for pointing this out though as I am seriously considering a jump to this bike. Fuel EXe is a great machine but all my mates have 85nm and that doesn't work well on the climbs for a group ride. I tried the Amflow a few days ago and wasn't blown away by its power but it is a definite improvement over the EXe.
Get the Amflow up a steep technical climb and the power deffo will blow you away, especially coming from the tq motor. I get zero play in my float dps (factory version). It's a 3 position lever and should click/lock into each position. Maybe that's just on the factory model, but that lever looks no good.
Everyone saying it’s normal and that’s what to expect. There’s IP ratings for a reason. This is not a cheap ebike and a simple seal would have helped. It’s never going to be 100% waterproof especially with a jet wash ( and no you shouldn’t be using a jet wash) but something is better than nothing. It’s early days yet, but this screen seams to be the weak spot on this bike. I’m sure the Gen 2 will sort these issues out. Just not great for such an expensive ebike.
No such issue on my Fuel Exe SL - full internal rubber gasket protects the 100% waterproof display! Yet another reason I will be sitting out this mega hyped AMflow for at least another 2 full years. First gen tech always has gremlins to iron out. The frame flex on the AMflow is another major design flaw they need to resolve as well as the poor paint finish. Thx for the great open and honest reviews.
Sim card lets you track your bike through the app/google maps if it gets stolen, you can upload ride data straight to strava or similar straight from the bike, you can remotely update the bike and alter the settings when out of bluetooth range. The sim card prob lets you do otherstuff aswell that I haven't sussed out yet! Thanks for the shock update, nice to know mine is normal.
Interesting. Had mine a week and already got both a motor and battery error on it and it won't charge. Not sure if it's water ingress or what at this stage but it's definitely completely dead. Going to pull my screen out to have a look inside soon see if I can see anything in there. Booked to get to the bike shop towards the end of next week
Pretty sure my levo has no rubber seal round the TCU either, but there's no issue on that. I expect the water is intended to run down the inside of the frame safely and exit at the motor drain ports or something. In the same way a car's gutters work.

The display is a sealed unit just like electronic modules inside a car engine bay where rain gets in. Don't see folks complaining about that in the UK ;)
@Ddraig62SPD obviously the display is sealed we're not idiots!! IF you took any notice you'd have seen there is no seal between the display unit and the frame. THATS were water gets in, So try again 🙄
Just going to throw this out there. It's just plain crazy to think you are washing your Emtb this way. Spray it with some truck wash and at best use the shower head on the nozzle. The bike will come up like new. Directly spraying the electronics with high pressure is stupid. Emtbs are awesome, but they need TLC, not brutality, when cleaning.
@echidna1263 I wouldn't normally spray water directly onto a display, this was a test! There are plenty of pro riders and pro youtubers promoting bike cleaning products and using jet washes in their videos, in the real world hosepipes and jet washes get used everyday on ebikes, this video is just highlighting what happens if you do.🤷
Dude his spray was less than when it's raining in UK 🤦♂️ No seal is just bloody stupid on an electric system designed to be used out doors. Sure it MAY have been more directed than rain but after 30mins in rain it's damn near identical. If its not water tight water WILL get in
@@dave_waudbyit's also showing what WILL happen if it rains........in the UK.......aah. No gasket seal is just guaranteeing problems later with anything electrical

It’s early days yet, but this screen seams to be the weak spot on this bike. I’m sure the Gen 2 will sort these issues out. Just not great for such an expensive ebike.
How do you find the dropper? I find mine stiff to activate at times.
Its ok, lever is maybe a bit stiffer than I'm used to but it works fine, it is virtually brand new so maybe will bed in a bit with time.
Your right with Gen1 releases, there will always be issues.🤷
Zero issues, just ones people who haven’t got one raise.
i seen this on other vids why is a sim card have to be fitted.... and mu fox rear is the same on my whyte e-160rs
Early adoption always brings issues, thats why I wait a year. Other manufacturers will catch up and Amflow will improve
Can be solved with a frame shape sticker , transparent or colored , whatever
Interesting. Had mine a week and already got both a motor and battery error on it and it won't charge. Not sure if it's water ingress or what at this stage but it's definitely completely dead. Going to pull my screen out to have a look inside soon see if I can see anything in there. Booked to get to the bike shop towards the end of next week
Hope u get sorted, that's real bad luck mate ☹️
@dave_waudby cheers hopefully an easy fix and not waiting weeks for new parts!
A Specialised Levo can't stand up to the British weather very poor seals.
So one "issue" with the bike itself and few minors on the OEM components - this does not seem like a big deal.
Pretty sure my levo has no rubber seal round the TCU either, but there's no issue on that. I expect the water is intended to run down the inside of the frame safely and exit at the motor drain ports or something. In the same way a car's gutters work.
Please hold us up to date seems like a really real review on this Hyped Bike

Time to get the silicon sealant out
😂 that be fine until you need the display out again 🤷
Exactly why i pass.
Water ingress around the display with no seal on a £6k bike isn't good...... English weather winter riding, thats defo gonna be an issue
@@ac1dflare937 It's an iP66-rated sealed display module as stated. IP66 rated products are protected from water splashes, sprays, jets, and submersion. They can withstand water jets from any direction using a nozzle of 12.5 mm or smaller at higher pressures.
Thank you for these tests! With the "help" of your climate, you can quickly highlight issues that might also occur in other climatic zones, albeit over a longer period. For me, this is an underrated aspect of all e-bikes. I'm waiting for the ZF system, which seemed to be well-designed from this perspective.
Have your maguras got 2 or 4 pads? Per caliper ?
2 pads per caliper, they are the type where the 2 pads at each side are connected together.
Evs are overpriced overhyped bikes!....return the hole bike!
Hole or whole ;)
Upgrade e mtb bikes are crap for what the cost you cant keep water out of them
Water gets into bodywork of most cars but they are also designed to have drainage holes, so are they also 'crap for what they cost'?
Top shout. Remember all other TH-camrs are paid to say its great.
Tha ks to them there's loads of good used EMtbs on the market as everyone rushes to buy the " next big thing"
Your First Bike ?!? Looks Like Beginner at cleaning a Emtb/mtb. I Thing there must more more Power of water ...Go Go 😂😂😂😂😂
Is this your first attempt at using English?
@perspectivedetective2703 I used english for you!!I am GERMAN !!!!!!! My english is your Problem ? I dont Thing so 😂😂😂🤷🏻♂️!!!! More water Dude more water 😂😂😂💪🏻
@@m.w.76 This is interesting, given the renowned reputation of German engineering. Do you live in Germany? If so, and if you have experience with the German-manufactured ebikes (I know Germans are patriotic to home brands). How is the fit of these items on those bikes? Amflow may be leading the pack on power but probably not build quality and engineering areas that don't capture the media interest. (Rotwild, Haibike, Cube, Canyon)
God vid, interesting to see little niggles coming out about these bikes. I think forbidden are going to use the motor/battery system but as for AMFLOW id probably avoid the first gen bikes for now, and get somthing further down the line.
Check out my latest vid, the bike rides brilliant 👌
@ will do watched your last one!
Diy gasket made from a piece of 2.8 innertube ?
Me again (lol) yeah had the same issue on a few fox shocks (comp lever)
