    If anyone is having trouble getting their Mazda 3 into programming mode like I was at first, I discovered that, at least for my car, I had to additionally manually press lock/unlock on the driver's side door at the beginning after you open the door but before the key cycling. Every thing else as explained in this video worked great. Thanks!

    Thank you for the video. Quick Tip Suggestion to others: Press UNLOCK button of EACH keyless remote to be programmed twice, SPECIAL NOTE: each as BOTH new and original fob, the original is the one in the ignition, and the new one you want to add, do both SUPER QUICK, otherwise the original will be cut out of the loop and it winds up disconnected and the remote function will stop working. Once that double tap is done on both, the door locks should lock and unlock after each remote is programmed. If door locks do not lock and unlock proceed as follows:
    Close and open drivers door once, door should lock and unlock twice. If door locks do not lock and unlock, start procedure over with to get back to this same step. BUT REMEMBER to do the double tap of 'unlock' on the ORIGINAL (fob in the ignition) + new one QUICKLY, back to back. so they can both register. I did that to get my original key fob to start working again. Best of luck to whoever is out there!

    Just tried it on my Mazda Miata 2004 and worked perfectly fine. I had just came back from the Mazda dealership and they told me I needed a new key fob ($200-$300) and to program it ($140). So I left and found this video. I tried it with my old key fob and everything worked just fine, good looking brotha!

    I've had my RX 8 card type keyless fob since 2009, when I got the car brand new. It never worked correctly. I spent countless hours trying to program it, but now I know it's b/c the dealer in Thousand Oaks, CA never did it. (The manager told me I could program it myself). Thank you for saving me more headaches and time.

      Is there a way to program a new fob WITHOUT having the actual key?

  • @graham1bedwell

    Bought a mazda 2, 2010. The keys weren't working so the trader put new batteries in them - broke one of the clips (delicate) that split the key in half. When i took the car they said only one key works for opening but both work starting. I took the key apart that wasn't working because the light wasn't working, turns out the 2 metal prongs on top of the battery were squashed so i lifted them a little. So now the light works every time but still won't lock/unlock the car. I took the first time plunge and followed you video. And well done and thanks for your help, saved me a ton of cash at the dealers, we're all good. Thanks again.

    Ray - - You just saved me a hundred dollars or more. I bought a used 2003 Miata and one of the two "fobs" didn't work. I thought it was defective and I was about to order a new one. Then I saw this video. With your clear instructions,, I re-programmed both of them so they now BOTH work great. They "key" - - as you explained - - is that you need to re-program BOTH of them at the same time, not just the "bad" or "new" one. But that was easy with your instructions. Much thanks. Dan

    Thank you, Whitney Automotive!! I tried this 3 or four times with the instructions given in the remote I ordered (exactly the same as yours). I came inside, pulled up TH-cam and found your video. I am working on a 2008 Mazda 3. I am trying to program the remotes. I am at a repair shop that lost the remote key. when I do the same procedure you did in the video, after opening and closing the drivers 3x the locks do not cycle to indicate I am in programming mode. I can see the door light on the dash so i know it pick up the open/close signal. if I remove the key or close the door, the lock will cycle 2x to let me know I am exiting programming mode. have you ever seen this issue ?

    A little tip if you have a key release button, you don't have to turn the key to the release position each time. Just turning the key from run to the acc position worked for me. I had some issues at first trying to turn it to the release position until I tried it without pushing the key release each time. Just thought I would share in case anyone else was having this problem.

    This was helpful, but not the exact procedure that worked on my 99 Mazda 626 LX 5 speed manual. I tried the same procedure as the video, but to no avail. I started with my door open, and after three ignition cycles ( not starting the car), and three door cycles, I left the door open like in the video. Nothing happened. But, I noticed that as soon as I shut the door after the third cycle, I heard two long beeps. After these beeps I was able to hit the "door open" button on the key fob/remote twice to program the remote. Also, when I found that closing the door at the final step enabled two long beeps and then programming, I noted that the locks did not cycle as in the video ( locks only cycled after unlock pushed on remote). Sorry if this was addressed in any comments previously.

      @@digitalmazda3 The programming procedure in this video is for the keyless entry system. There is a separate chip in the key portion of the switch blade keys that is responsible for communicating with the immobilizer/PATS system to start the car. This is also a programmable system. However, you can not program the key to start the vehicle is you only have one or no working keys. Two functioning and programmed keys are needed to program a third.
      If you have no working keys, the vehicle will need to be programmed to receive the code in that key be either the dealer or a licensed locksmith. Hope this helps!!

      Okay - in case you haven't figured this out yet, when you take the key out of the ignition, it terminates the process. At least, that was the mistake that I was making. So go through the sequence, press the unlock button twice without removing the ignition key, press the unlock button twice on the second remote and then take the key out of the ignition. Good luck!

    @Joe Walker
    Is your vehicle going into the programing mode? If the remotes are good and the keyless module (above the headliner) has been replaced and are known good, you may be looking at a passenger junction box (PJB). If the vehicle does not go into programming mode then you may have a faulty ignition switch or door switch. You will have to go to a Mazda dealer to have this confirmed and programed if it is in fact failing and you choose to replace it.

    • @justpeachy90
      @justpeachy90 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah my vehicle goes into programming mode. I'm assuming the Keyless Module is good since it allows my car to go into programming mode, but not too sure. I did get the modules from cars at a junkyard. Is the PJB expensive to fix? My car is going to a Mazda dealer soon for another repair so maybe I'll have them look at it(was hoping to avoid the dealer for this issue due to the cost). Thanks for the help!

    • @WhitneyAutomotive
      @WhitneyAutomotive  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Walker The keyless control module has a receiver. It may be in the programming mode but not receiving the signal from the remote. There is also a microcomputer in the PBJ that can be malfunctioning, and unfortunately the PJB itself can be very expensive. Before you go buying any more parts you may want to just let the dealer look at it since you are headed there anyway. Don't overlook simple things like fuses as well... just one more basic thing to check..

    • @bigdaddycree
      @bigdaddycree 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you so much Brother for your informative video. Saved me a lot of headache trying to figure out what was wrong with my remote after an extended period of having the battery disconnected during a timing belt repair. Very much appreciated :) Cheers :)

    good video. my door drive door lock below the handle though does no lock and unlock though. my passenger side does. I've been having this issue for a while though. my remote nor the door switch will unlock the driver door. i have to use the actual key or manually lock it by flicking the switch from within. what do you think my issue is?

    Hello Ray,
    Tried this on my Mazda 6 2007, unfortunately didn't work. The fob stopped working after I recently disconnected battery to do some work and hasn't been right since. Think I may have blown a fuse.

    So let me get this straight, if one were to add remote access to their car, do they have to change their current key or set up the remote access system, then they could use their original key???

      I'm having this exact same issue. 2010 Mazda I bought from someone who lost the fob. bought a switchblade style. put the car into programming mode and hit unlock, fob lights up, but no dice. is it possible for my car to be equipped with power windows and doors but not remote unlock?

      Mine did the same thing at first. When I removed the key, the locks clicked "locked/unlocked" twice. THEN, I was able to use the unlock button on the remote, and everything was fine. I know this reply is late. Maybe you still have the car...

    Whitney Automotive .... Lets see here ... I bought used 2010 Mazda 3s. The dealer had only 1 key with a chip. I bought a second key with chip from Ace hardware and they also cut and programmed it for $69 was the total cost compared to the dealer that wanted $300 plus. Next I ordered 2 switchblade key fobs from Walmart for $48.00. Its apparently not working ... do the switchblade key's in the fob have to be cut and programmed in order to program the keyfob? Another thing is the doors and trunk are electric but i see no power buttons at all. The doors will auto lock and unlock accordingly ... etc. For some reason now I'm thinking there no transmitter for keyfob remote ... the Sales man said I had to get my own because the original owner kept his keyfob's. I am now wondering if he lied knowing or unknowing ... ?

    My 2008 Miata door ajar light stays on. I've tried WD40 in the door jam and trunk jam, checked fuses in engine compartment as well as driver's side. Didn't work. Even though the card key 'unlocks', I can not lock my doors; even manually with a key (because I know the door ajar light is on and the door won't lock because of that). I'm just a gal that does a lot of maintenance/fixing on my own. Is there something else I can do to fix this before having to pay a dump load of money? I'd appreciate any suggestion.

    Hey, my 2010 Mazda 3 SD remote control is not working, I changed the battery, it did work for couple of days and then quit!
    I think the problem is with the remote itself, and its the only remote key (Flip Key) I have when i bought the car, so if I buy a new flip key online and do the steps that you did in this video, it will work?

    Hi, I drive a 2008 Mazda cx7 and as I understand it there is no way to re-program a faulty credit card style keyless entry. Is that correct or is there a way, which I hope. The other question is if I do have to purchase a new one what would you suggest if I would want to buy one off a ebay? Thanks for any help you can give.

    Do you just leave the key in and hit unlock of take it out? And my car won't start at all the only way to start it is with my remote start. With that reset too and start with the key?

    • @WhitneyAutomotive
      @WhitneyAutomotive  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Avery Pollock Sounds like you have some other problems going on here. It would be difficult for me to answer this without having the car in front of me because if your car will only start with the "remote start" function, there may be a problem with your key or PATs system as a whole. This video and the programing of the remote should have nothing to do with the car starting.

      I literally just did mine using this video with two key fobs and it worked. Make sure your battery placement is correct. Mine actually have two batteries, and I could find no suggestions for placement. Everything I found was for a single battery. Trial and error led to them being both positive sides facing in against the spring clip. I also had to solder one of the spring tips that had broken off the circuit board. Now I have to figure out why the remote start isn't working.
