FPV Freestyle Pilot Reacts To HDZero Goggles with 3ms of Latency

- These goggles bring HDZero up to another level. I've been messing around with HDZero using the VRX and my Fatshark goggles and I haven't been that impressed. However, now that we have a stand-alone goggle the latency has dropped even lower and I'm quite frankly blown away by the feel with this video link.

I got these goggles for my husband for his birthday, it took forever to arrive and the customer service is very poor. That’s what I have to say about these goggles.;-)
I would have to agree. They have debited my account twice and I have heard zip, nada from them on shipping etc. They better get this fixed! Period....
Hm strange I'd try getting in tough with them again. They are usually very good with customers. My guess is the covid wave has affected them more than they let on. Remember they had to take a bullet train and travel 10 hours out of their location just to get the initial batch of goggles shipped out to customers because of the covid spread and all their stuff got it shortly after lockdowns were lifted. I'm sure they will sort things out.
I thought that the discount on now was a preorder for a new batch?
Dont juge that hard about hdzero. The goggle was out of Stock after few hours. Hdzero arent like dji or maybe rotorriot where work a lot of people.
Shipping hundreds of goggles, packed by only a few people or for answering customer Emails will need time.

Nothing against DJI at all, they make a great product, I however, am ALL in with HDZero, it fits my style of flying and that is what each pilot must decide for themselves, thank you for your honest opinion.

Yeah they are tempting for that. Honestly that is why I bought Walksnail stuff. Unfortunately I haven't been very impressed with walksnail. IDK hoping it gets better.
@@stingersswarm I did the same. Walksnail sucked. They have great reviews on the website. I don't get it. Range and latency was horrible for me.
@@stingersswarm Make sure to try latest FWs, Walksnail getting better and better but its not perfect yet. In the End we all want the latency from HDzero, the Goggle from Walksnail and the picture quality from DJI.

that was a great first impression. I agree with most of your points. The resolution hit for 540 is real. Especially when you are used to something like DJI. But the feeling of the quad being so locked in and in sync with your movements and your brain is better than anything I have experienced, analog included as the breakup on analog and image bounce and color warp always threw me off. I"m definitely looking forward to seeing more HDZero content from you with your honest opinions.

@@stingersswarm yea, best way to do it is fly like 5 packs on 90fps, then switch the cam to 60fps in the menu(this does work) and then fly again. I'm curious how drunk it makes you feel before you adjust again

Great video your opinion is honest and it is good to see that in this hobby. Always channel R1 for Hdzro it has more power than higher up in the band, it is very noticeable.

You were freakin locked in! And honestly I don't think the Is penetration was that bad. The HDZero Goggles make it way better!
Watching it back afterwards I don't think it was that bad either. That back corner is barely flyable on DJI too.
Great reaction video to the HD Zero goggles and 90fps camera. Exciting times for fpv. At the moment I fly analog and dji. I'd like to see other manufacturers like Rush or TBS make a variety of vtx's for HD Zero. If that happens good chance I'd replace my HDO2's with the HD Zero goggles. Happy flying everyone 😎

The low/fixed latency is super addicting flying with any kind of pace. I have 3 different links and this is what I fly unless I really have to go to something else...
I've switched to it from analog and I love it. I got the goggles but I don't have the nano 90 camera. I do want to see it in the better penetration modes as I have considered getting it, but for now I'm enjoying the micro V2.. I'm playing with different lenses and using the 16:9 full sensor setting of the micro V2.. It's crazy immersive in that mode

I have my goggles coming in the second batch. Worst case that fancy deinterlacer gives me the best analog experience available with an awesome DVR. I have the walksnail VRX coming in hopes to be able to eventually replace my DJI stuff. Fingers crossed I'll eventually get to one set of goggles again!
I am liking it a lot myself I haven't been very happy with walksnail however.
Over here even dji guys avoid high latency areas even though they can see through it. Do I'll guess that just like he said " it's not fun on dji either" that he would avoid that spot on dji because that nasty latency bump you'll get there is always no bueno. Physics is physics man you may see but if your control is slop you won't go there. Just like analogue and hdz you'd avoid bad areas, the same area would be bad on all systems.
You hit the nail on the head. I would avoid it most of the time on both systems. I'd fly through it on either system to connect multiple areas or just change up my lines to keep it interesting but I wouldn't linger there on any system. Fist bump.
Excellent video Kevin. Still waiting for my 90 fps cameras to arrive... I have HD Zero for racing, but it might just replace analog for me now... However, I have to say I'm loving the O3 a lot too... But these HD Zero goggles are quite something, and the fact you can do; HD zero, Analog, and Avatar with them may mean they become the hot new thing on the block ...
Yeah. I was hoping to use all three on them. But I just haven't been impressed with the walksnail system. Maybe they can step it up with a firmware update.

It's a fair crack, and definitely a more racing/proximity based system. There will be a proper 'penetration mode' coming soon also which should improve flyability at the same resolution as the 90fps camera. Also a 1080/30 mode coming which should be interesting too!
I'm curious to try all those out. I'm honestly really happy with how it performed here. I'm looking forward to getting out and flying again soon.

it'll get there just need more range and penetration but when it's close and clear it feels sexy! DJI you do get used to. Flew DJI for a year until I killed 4 vistas, decided to go back to analog to rip and destroy till I feel good enough to not destroy every digital thing I own. Love not having latency though. The connection between you and the drone is special and I like that more than seeing everything lol
Yeah there are trade offs for sure. I think I want to have some of both systems. I really like the feel of them both.

The HDzero goggles are next level. The HDzero video link is good, maybe not as good as DJI. But the goggles are sweet and whoop racing is amazing with HDzero.

As someone who has been in this hobby for just over a year I think im going to go with the o3 unit. The on board recording just seems so nice. I won't have to run a gopro and my drone will be lighter. Is there anything that im overlooking?
Higher latency. But it is a nice option. I'm just feeling tired of having to tame down my flying due to latency.
I have been flying for a bit. Most freestyle pilots I have met with a few exceptions don’t know how to tune, don’t know what feed forward does, don’t use black box. Most of these people would benefit from learning how to make your quads follow setpoint more closely which drastically affects the feel and performance of your flight. Losing a little bit of latency in a goggle is an improvement, but is a small improvement compared to the benefits of flying a locked in quad.
When I started tuning was a must, and we had to tune up hill both ways. You kids today have it soooo easy. With your sliders and software motor direction switching. geez

Exactly! Picking an FPV video system in 2023 is freaking hard. I've currently got all of them except the O3 and I'm still not convinced of which one is ultimately right for me.

Ordered the HDZero goggles (March i guess) for racing primarily.
I'm wondering if I'll feel a latency difference to my Walksnail freestyle quads.
FOV is the same so that's great. good thing I can use all my RHCP antennas from my Analog vtx's etc.
I haven't been very happy with walksnail so far. I hope you have better luck.
@@stingersswarm so far the Fatshark Dominator goggles perform pretty good. Only need to fiddle with elrs packet rates and goggle image settings to feel less detached from the quad.
Feel like higher packet rates etc give a more connected feel when flying.
TrueRC stubbies helped a lot to.

Nice rip! You can definitely notice the resolution hit with the nano 90, but the latency is worth it imo. Anxious to try the 540p 60fps mode to see if that helps with penetration. Glad to see a familiar face giving their honest impression.

Love my DJI system for Freestyle and Cinematic/Work..........Just bought HDZ VRX Used for $130, strictly for Racing (Mostly because it "plays friendly" with other FPV systems/Multi GP )
The VRX is ok. If all I had was that I would give up on HDZero.
I'm thinking hard about getting HD Zero as my new Whoop and Analog goggles. Anything larger, DJI.
Yeah. I've been flying the firefly nano 2s with HDZero on the VRX for about a month. I wasn't terribly impressed but switching to the standalone goggles have me believing more in the hype. I am going to keep flying 5" primarily on this for now. But I will want to keep some DJI around for clarity and penetration.

I've been flying both DJI and HDZero, which one I pick up to fly depends on the mood I am in. Very similar to my vehicles, if I want to go up a scenic rocky trail I take my 4wd truck (DJI), but if I want to go up a paved twisty canyon road I take my sports car (HDZero). You'd have to pry either one of them out of my cold dead fingers, lol. Oh, and excellent review BTW!

What's the real range like compared to analog and DJI? Because DJI will make the picture look all pretty but that's irrelevant if you're seeing in the past with such high latency. I'm basically asking which system irrespective of antennas will let you fly further. Not give more confidence but physically let you fly further?
I would say they are basically the same.
@@stingersswarm Ah bummer I was always under the impression that DJI had amazing range compared to analog.
It is complicated. Both will totally fail at the same point. Most people feel more comfortable flying dji to that limit because they can see more of the image. However one could fly analog or hdzero the same location. I’m specifically talking about flying behind objects. Long range is a totally different story.
@@stingersswarm Yea I heard DJI has that 13km hard range limit. I guess DJI also handles multipathing better resulting in a better link at the same point. I guess I need to try it to get the feel myself. Great videos by the way man, loving it!

I am not picking up any of these new systems until my DJI v1 goggles die. It's way too much money. Other than that these goggles and system look great.
Or sell your working dji v1's while they are still worth something?
Im flying this System nearly since day one. Im one of this guys who says "wait for better cameras and give'em a chance". I fly the original runcam Nano cam who came first with the System, after them i fly the digisight v1 and the quality compared to the newer cams are WORSE.
And tbh, i never regret it!
The digisight v3 or ne micro v2 brings them to the next level and we can expact more this year.
Yes it isnt dji or walksnail. But with a great tuned quad it feels like you say it, looked in!
Like you learn to handle dji you will learn to handle the less Imagequality/ learn to See the scraggle.

Everybody seems to be surprised how good the system actually is. I always knew there was a lot of potential. Thank god there were enough early adopters in the shark byte era, although cameras and link quality were much worse than now. It matured with heavy community input, and that’s why it is special and will be around for some time.

Awesome seeing your first impressions! I don’t think the 540/60 mode for penetration is out yet. I got the goggles and have been loving them. I need to get the nano90 in a build to try out the 540/90hz. Wonder how much quality difference there will be vs the micro v2 cam at 720/60hz. Looking forward to your next vid!

@@stingersswarm I just finally tried out the 540/90 yesterday. Dude! My first thought is the 540/60 would have to give me significantly more penetration for me to give up the 90fps mode. It is crazy smooth and locked. Looking forward to all the options tho!

I wish to see a blind comparison. 90Hz sound good and you are expecting more, so you fly harder. But you have a many choices now, so it will be better to have a good analog system with low latency, or good HD video but hi latency or try to fit both of worlds but be average in both of them ?
In fact that hdzero is faster than analog now + a way better picturequality there is no need for analog anymore. Analog is now a cheap way to enter this Hobby.
It is very obvious, you can’t miss it.
My blind tests are:
When I forget what settings a quad is on I can tell in 2 seconds as soon as I take off, ignoring the resolution difference, it feels/looks very different. 60/90hz… you can fly even more aggressively with 90, it is significant to me. 60 is good (super similar feel to analog) but 90 is better.
My analog feels too slow, now that I’m used to HDZero, and I have been flying less and less of it.
The advantage of 90hz in a race/proximity setting is undeniable.
This is the lowest latency system I've flown and I've flown them all. A lot. I would love to have all the options 540 90, 540 60, 720 60, and 1080 30. Then just choose the most appropriate mode for the situation. That is where HDZero is headed.

I'm not picky here, just looking for new set of goggles, to go out of analog. I'll have that I'm my mind.
The difference in 60fps and 90fps was pretty easy for me to tell, it makes the image a lot smoother. Just take a couple fast turns and the difference is really noticeable. My first pack I found myself going back and fourth doing fast turns around two trees and in the turns I had the trees just locked in the center of the screen and it felt awesome. I spent most of the pack doing this kind of mesmerized. Switched modes back and fourth during my 2nd pack doing the same thing and it was really noticeable. Feel confident I could blind test at 100% easy even if the latency was throttle to be the same
I dont really know what its like to fly dji but im pretty much all in on hdzero now, you cant beat that low latency for proxy.
It is all I've been flying too. I just lobotomized a DJI build this weekend to keep my hdzero rig in the air.

I wouldn't get your hopes up! Carl seems to have gotten all that this technology has to offer. Remember, Fatshark dumped this system because the potential just wasn't there. It doesn't come close to competing against Walksnail or DJI....not in the same ballpark....and not in the same universe with DJI and the 03 air unit. The Tech behind HDZero just isn't that revolutionary. ANALOG2 is what it is. Sharper analog...that's it, I'm afraid.
Wait for JB's review comparing all digital systems and their goggles. It'll show how far behind HDZero truly is. The GAP is the size of the GRAND CANYON! lol

Being latency sensitive, I'm all in on HDZero.
It is a good place to be.
I went from O3/G2 to the HDZero goggle, my timing was a little off, but on the third day… OMG!!! Soooo happy with this system!!!
I couldn’t deal with HDZero in the VRX days, but now… it is by far my favourite feeling system, followed by Avatar, really like the flight feel on that too.
HDZero 540p60 is not enabled yet, I’m excited to try its penetration in the future, when available.
720p60 and 540p90 is identical penetration wise. 540p60 is supposed to be significantly better, excited to try it myself, but I’m really enjoying 540p90, so I can wait a few months.
Yeah the VRX really didn't impress me at all. I couldn't feel hardly any difference to DJI
@@stingersswarm going by memory, I agree DJI120 and the VRX felt off in a very similar way… I couldn’t really get comfortable with either.
But this goggle, especially at 90hz is ridiculously comfortable to fly. Flight feel is unparalleled, and I have tested everything extensively.
I have improved so much since getting the goggle, me and the people close to me are honestly shocked at the difference in my abilities. It’s like a limiter was removed… crazy feeling!!! I love it!

If hd zero in it's current form beat DJI to market a few years ago, no one would be flying DJI.

I'm really hating on the Freestyle VTX, its so big and fits none of the standard frames..
How do you feel about the O3 camera?
@@stingersswarm The Goggles 2 fit my face so badly it nearly doesn't matter ;) But O3 Dimensions are not as bad as the huge freestyle VTX and: Its DJI, literally days after the release a dozen different frame options are available.
I wish the penetration were better than analog, at least.
Yeah I'm curious to see it when the 540 60 mode comes out for better penetration performance. It might just be better than analog. We will have to see.

Yeah I would say it is just a a step above analog. I need to do more testing. It'll be interesting when they have 1080 30 available down to 540 60 for penetration it has potential to be a versatile system.
@@stingersswarm i think the different modes with different Hz will be more noticable than the 3ms latency.
I'd rather wait till the DJI 2 get in stock the quality looks better
You know, if you fly DJI in public mode, you don't get the variable latency.
Then you don't get full bandwidth, bit rate, or transmit power. Not a good option.
They are absolutely not 3ms, not in your wildest dreams.
They are. First pixel response in 3ms. Check out Chris rossers review if you don’t believe me.
@@stingersswarm that's first pixel response. That's like measuring gaming latency of a monitor and a game without considering the connection to the network. They're 18ms goggles, at best. Nothing to sneeze at but 3ms is just response time of the screens in the goggle, nothing to do with transmission
