I have just uploaded an easier updated version of how to replace the Nearside (passenger side) Headlight bulb, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/sl3YkHxx3oA/w-d-xo.html and I have also uploaded another video for the Offside (Driver Side) Headlight Bulb, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/0aAvJVJxnE4/w-d-xo.html

I live in an area with lots of bumpy roads with pot holes, which the Skoda is not designed to drive on as the suspension on the car is awful, you feel every bump and the potholes sound like gunshots. Anyway, this causes the lights to always get knocked out of their socket, in the 6 or so years I've had my car, I've had the headlight go out about 5 times and the back light twice. I look forward to trying to replace them (I've had the mechanic do it every other time), I might try the wheel method but remove the wheel first so I have more room for my arm.

I'm just upgrading my headlight and I really want to send a shit in a box to the German designer who thought that having to take a wheel off was a great way to change a headlight bulb

Thanks for the video, fella. One of those moments of "I must be doing something wrong... Ah, no, it's just rubbish design by Skoda".

I watched this knowing how difficult it would be having done it before, hoping to pick up some tips or if there's an easier way. I just ended up laughing. Relatable!

It took me a while to fine the best tool to take off the cover under the wheel arch. In the end I used a tool that came to build a trampoline at home-the hook thing to pull the springs. If you've still got that it works a treat. The daytime running light was very straightforward to change once the cover was off-simply take out the bulb with the unit, no wires, and replace bulb. This video really helped a lot thanks! Wouldn't have got the cover off easily without it. By the way, try changing the front lights of a Hyundai i30-had to nearly take off the entire wing!

I’ve been toying with replacing the fairly crap stock headlight bulbs on mine. This has convinced me to not bother. What a crap design on an otherwise fairly intuitive car. Will save this for a guide for when a bulb eventually blows.

I can't stop laughing at this, I have a 2018 model and took it to Halfords to get the driver side bulb replaced and it took the poor boy working there half an hour and that is the easy side so I feel your pain. Pmsl

Just changed mine in my skoda fabia 3 2019. There was no need to turn the bulb, it was fit into place like a clipper, just press and it will hold. Also the pulling out of the bulb frim the connector was easier, just pull it, no screwdriver needed.
All in all it was a bit different design, but the rest was the same. I managed to do it without taking out of the battery (i am a newbie).

Is the daytime running lights just a bulb? My right one is flickering, is it just a case of buying a new bulb or will I need a whole new unit?

  • @Xaldin773

jep just had the same problem but on the other side... just to be clear i'm really not a good mechanic... so i drove back to the nice store where i bought it, and they were done in about 5-10min which would have taken be atleast 30min. however the mechanic actually managed to get it done through that opening in the wheel case, but had to use long pliers to turn the bulb in. thanks for nothing VW..

Just been to Halfords and it took an experienced staff member 45 minutes to replace the bulb. Worst ever design by Skoda/Volkswagen for an otherwise great car. Next time a bulb blows I’ll take it to the Skoda dealer and let them deal with this nonsense.

  • @Game0verFool

How do you get the replacement bulb to sit inside? I had to turn anticlockwise to remove the old one but nothing seems to work putting in the replacement.

It i much easier to access the light bulb in pre-restyle, 2016. Fabia. However, pre-restyle bulb is H4, not H7.

It's horrible... The person that came up with this should not be a designer. My headlight has gone out and it's -5 outside. Gonna be fun to replace it. What happens when I take out the battery though?
Do I need to reset some stuff or is it just a question of disconnect and reconnect?

@@habibielhabibi2272 I have tried to take headlight out but failed .. apparently you have to take bumper off.. so will risk it by taking battery out with this trick you have used with the hopes that the car has not reset.. might get a code saver done beforehand to be on the safe side though..

Think your self lucky, some vehicles need the headlight removed to change a bulb.
Car designers obviously drive company cars so never change bulbs their self.
Bulbs should be made easier to replace at the road side, having to remove headlights or trim to change a bulbs isn't really on since they are a saftey hazzard if they don't work especially in the middle of nowhere
With the complexity of cars now adays there's little the average car owner can do to fix most issues
But bulb replacement, Oil and water top up should be made user friendly.

Stupid design. My VW Transporter is just as bad - bumper off job really! On the flip side my 1987 Nissan is a 10 second job. How anyone would do this on the side of the road I dont know. I hate modern car design.
