Its the first sunday, listening to Lisa who’s doing Steves show, I keep expecting Steve’s voice to come in,😪, will miss his warm cheery voice always, so sad
I'm gutted. Spent so many hours with Steve during my time on the road as a delivery driver, and felt like we both worked together and were friends. Testament to his greatness as a radio presenter and a true great of the industry. I'll miss him dearly
@anthonymitchell8893 that's my point, I didn't know him and we weren't friends, but his talent as a radio presenter made each listener feel as though they were. Not many can match that
he was the face of normality and the establishment maverick ? u would say Kenny Everett back in the seventies and early eighties was classed as a maverick
@anthonymitchell8893 agree with you on Kenny. With Steve, he was more mould-breaking in the early days, then developed more of a steady show routine in his latter half. Jeremy vine even referenced this, which is what gave Steve such scope for his daily show, for so long.
Loved his possie specially Gervaise the hairdresser. I remember when he was on Luxembourg he was winding up another DJ pretending he had a pet chimp just brilliant 🌟🌟
Steve's show was how I first heard about 9/11 when I was at work . He was so professional and handled it perfectly . Thank you for making my school bus even more fun in the eighties . You are so missed xx
He was THE DJ in the 1980's. He brought a warmth and fun which just oozed out of the radio. After he left Radio 1 I didn't hear anything about him until about 4 years ago when my wife ( who listened to Chris Evans) said that Steve Wright was on Radio 2. I listened to him all over again for a year or two whenever I was in the car between appointments. He still had it and a UK legend has gone. Thank you so much for the fun you brought us Steve, RIP. ❤
Whenever I listened to Steve he always chose really good songs, and was able to cheer you up with his between record banter. RIP Steve and Thanks for all the music.
In 1983 the music and pop singers were out of this world. I was on a Maggie Thatcher yts scheme with a big group of guys, we listen to the radio every day from 8am to 5pm. And we all couldn't wait until 2pm for the Steve Wright show. Great music, and boy how he made us all laugh , and we would turn the volume up to maximum. Happy times, we all loved the Mick jagger crew... God bless you Steve.
One of the true great DJs and brilliant entertainer . So sad because I'm exactly the same age and can't believe that he has been taken from us at a relatively young age. R.I.P STEVE. No one will ever replace you .
My teenage years were built around Steve Wright In The Afternoon. His radio show was hilarious from start to finish with some memorable characters thrown in along the way. Mr Angry, Arnie & The Terminators to name but a few. He was the voice of Radio 1, and the day they got rid of him was the day that station died. I never listened to Radio 2 until Steve started his show on there, and although toned down, it was still the best afternoon show around. RIP Steve, and a huge thank you for making radio popular
