You can tell Mrs. Outlaw has been putting in the work. Looking at old videos compared to now she shoots so much smoother and with much more confidence.
Helps that Chris is legit one of the better guys we see with recoil control and trigger control. I've taken simple advice he's given and it's made me a way better shooter.
I’ve had an extra ep9 for about 3 years now and have never had a malfunction in 6,000+ rounds. It’s the best PCC for the price. My GF and my Dad also bought one after shooting mine and none of them have had any issues. Super fun to shoot and train with. Love mine!
Correct, but FYI, the Extar does _not_ require lube. Yes, you read that correctly. The manufacturer recommends against using it anywhere but maybe a tiny bit on the BCG. The polymer they use is self-lubricating and any oil will actually seize up function. Alternately, they say you can use a "dry" lubricant sparingly, but it's really not necessary. What is most important is keeping it clean.
@fleatactical7390 I didn't know that. I was looking to maybe pick one up before spring for range time fun for the kiddos. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks 👌
Something to remember is that while Extar has been in the firearms business successfully for quite some time, they have been at the leading edge of polymer technology for even longer. The polymer they use is their manufacturing is 3 bars above what any other firearms manufacturer is putting out. Quite literally the only company I trust with full polymer PCC's.
@Bobdixon_Moonvarga_Dancer_III in my personal experience, Kel Tec is like the little brother of Extar that wants to be just as cool. Extar has them beat in quality of polymer, customer service, QC, and price. (Extar sells directly from their website, not to dealers)
@@TG-cp2mn I've taken a tour of Extar in Arizona and had a chance to speak with the founder. He's a master in injection molding and was at the forefront of polymer injection molding before he finally came into the firearms game and introduced the first 100% polymer rifle receiver set. These guys know what they're doing.
@Bobdixon_Moonvarga_Dancer_III me, personally, I feel as if Kel Tec has extremely interesting concepts and fantastic range toys. But the quality control leaves a bit to be desired. It's also the attention to detail in the design of the injection molded parts that makes Extar stand out. The receivers and handguards are molded as one solid piece whereas Kel Tec and most other companies take the "bolt two halfs together with about 30 screws" approach.
What's crazy is that i was looking at a LOT of PCC's and just happened to start leaning towards the Extar. I thought, "I bet Honest Outlaw has a video on this." Low and behold, you posted this gem answering all my questions. Will definitely be picking one up here soon.
Ordered mine and picked it up from the ffl about a week ago. Showed up in just a couple days shipped cross country. Absolutely fricken love it. Spend the extra 100 for the adjustable brace. My only qualm he men&Zion’s. If you buy the 33rnd Glock mags it’s hard to get them in if the bolt is closed. I bought some sgm 32 or 34 rnd mags that were 15 each compared to the 40 bucks for the Glock mags on the Extar website and those are absolutely flawless. The actual glock mags can be a little tight
I've had 2. Traded the first one during covid for ammo. Bought the second one 2 years ago. For the money it is hands down one of the best purchases I have made.
My wife has the same eye problem. She's never really shot pistols until last year and is rifle and scoped trained. She's getting better and loves this show ❤
I bought one based on your first review a few years ago. It’s been great and 100% reliable. I did wear out the polymer FCG and replaced it with an all steel set. Other than that that it’s still going strong.
Refreshing to get a first shots video. This kind of content is why I'm a fan. Out of all the major channels, you're easily top 3 when it comes to gun reviews.
My Wife and I love your videos and base our firearms purchases on your reviews. Keep up the great work you all do. Also love seeing Bubba in your videos. He has been a fantastic addition to the team.
Not to take away from him (because he has improved _immensely_ in a really short period of time), but the Extar is the most accurate 9mm PCC that I own (Stribog, Scorpion, even an MP5 clone - though I would be hesitant to compare it to those for durability or reliability... but time will tell). You'd have to be blind or have a broken optic to miss steel at any normal distance with it. It's a huge confidence builder. LOL
I have 2 older ones. I did have an issue with the oldest one, but Extar was very helpful and went above and beyond to make it right. Great company.....oh, and they are fun as hell to shoot! Thanks Outlaws!
Buy it yall! Bought this as my first PCC back in August. Such a fun reliable gun to shoot! Well worth the price! Bought a Romeo 5 red dot for it, put 400 rounds through it so far and no issues. Haven’t cleaned or lubbed once so far.
Just got my Gen 2 and love it!!! I added a good break, Larue 2 stage flat trigger, a Vector 1x Paragon Prism, Magpul K2 grip, Geissele Maritime bolt catch and ya, I'm getting an aluminum handguard from EPA Aftermarket. I'm adding a thumb rest and hand stop after. Then it's fun stick time!
PCC’s are such a great option for defense, and so much fun at the range! My wife absolutely loves my PCC, a Beretta PMX-S, so that’s now her main home defense gun. Thanks for another great video on PCC’s!!
I have two Gen 1's and my experience is that they are reliable, and as been said already, immensely fun. I've had zero issues with mine, and in fact, I'm so pleased I see no reason to upgrade, even to the Gen 3. A metal rail would get me to upgrade (Extar...are you reading this??). I should add, everyone who shoots it, loves it.
I get the astigmatism, both eyes for me makes dots “starburst” much more. No need to explain yourself to me Mrs. outlaw. Watching your shooting progression is inspiring. Keep on keeping it real you two! And bubba
Bro, your wife and Bubz both REALLY liked it and had fun shooting it. Not bad at all. Love being able to see such different hand sizes and body types shooting the same weapon.
Love my Extar EP9! Got mine a few weeks ago. Kitted it out with a Sig Sauer MSR red dot, weapon light, mlok fore grip and “25” round Glock mag. So far the gun has been amazing and will be replacing my AR-15 as my home defense weapon. Full disclosure I had 2 malfunctions my first time shooting it, both in the first 2 mags I fired. One failure to eject then one miss feed. After that it performed flawlessly. A second trip to the range I put about 150 rounds through it and not one issue at all. Hoping this trend continues!
I've had one of these for a few months (I think it's the same one as the one you're shooting in this video - the newest version with the 6.5" barrel, comes with the same flash can that I replaced, SBA3 brace). It's the most fun gun I own. I've put probably 1500 rounds through mine without a single failure - multiple makers and sized Glock compatible mags and multiple brands/weights of 9mm (including lots of LAX/Freedom remans). I have those same 147gr Federal flat-nosed that Bubba experienced a stoppage with; I've run 500 rounds of that through mine without an issue. I did clean and lube mine when I got it from Extar before taking it out the first time though. Everyone who has seen/shot mine think it's a blast! I originally found out about them by watching your PCC videos when looking for a better option for a 9mm PCC (I had gone through a few others that I didn't really like). I had a Hi-point 9mm carbine and really liked how it shot and felt, but I didn't like the 10 round mag capacity and the Redball mags were never reliable for me. I tried a Ruger PC Carbine multiple times and always had reliability issues and just didn't like the size of it (especially as a potential home defense gun for my wife). I had a JRC carbine and liked it but the size was also too big for my wife to enjoy shooting it and it had a lot of odd reliability issues (and was really picky on mags). I tried a Keltec Sub2k, and just did NOT like that gun at all. I was skeptical about the Extar being polymer (especially when I took it out of the box at my FFLs when I picked it up), but the first time I shot it, I knew your advice was spot on - so thanks!!!
I had trouble w 147 flat nose as well. Intermittent ftf. OTOH, it’s the favorite for wife and kids bc the recoil is nonexistent. Put a can on it, and it really shines w subsonic. Quiet and tame recoil. Fun fun.
I currently have 3 Extars in my stable. I have a Gen 1, a Gen 2 and a carbine. By FAR the best for the buck. I’ve gotten so many people to pick one up after they shoot mine. They require nothing more than an optic. They feel like a toy, but man are they fun.
In 2019 left eye had a torn and detached retina ,the surgery left me with distortion in my vision , then I developed a cataract in my left eye do to the surgery and I got that repaired . My right eye became my strong eye with a +4 astigmatism. Just this last Monday I had cataract surgery on my right eye and opted for a corrective lens to be installed in my head . Now I have to retrain my brain for the new sight picture, but my red dot doesn't look like a big fuzzy coma, now it's actually a dot !
I have to use prism optics, projected red dots are a constellation to me, getting bigger the longer I look. 5 dots instead of 1! Had 20/15 as a kid; it all went to hell in a hand basket at 40, astigmatism in both eyes.
What’s up, Outlaws 🤠 I got the CZ micro 3+ on sale for only 700 bucks and I still think it’s really hard to beat when in comes to finding a “better” 9mm PCC. thank you for all of your insight and the work you do to give us all a better idea of what we’re looking for when we pick up a new gun. Have a great weekend y’all
The absolute pedigree of CZ makes it trump all PCCs in its price range and below. It's too reliable and waaaay too up to date with features like ambi controls and handguard overhanging any suppressor. The mlok is great too, again keeping it up to date and competitive. Everything feels great, it's super sturdy, and the magazines are so reliable other brands make use of it, almost as popular to use cz mags as it is to use Glock mags.
I agree the CZ scorpion is amazing and super fun to shoot. I did notice though that after about 200 rounds, you definitely have to lube it. Or you’re gonna have jams, and they’re not fun with the scorpion.
I have one of these because of your reviews of the older models and I love that thing. Have had 0 issues with it even though my older ets mags are a bit snug in it no problem with any other mags.
Being left eye myself I'm writing my first comment ever as requested from the lady in this video. I do a small hand full of activities left handed which oddly I seem to be better than average. She mentioned using the right hand for pistols. Operating pistols feels as natural and comfortable in either hand but like you I am completely left handed with a stock added. Playing pool, compound bow, guitar hero many years ago are all I can think of at present I use 100% left handed. Be safe.
Hello Chris and the Mrs Outlaw, Extar owner here. I have the newest iteration of the EP9 (I think), what I know is that it's pretty much identical to yours functionally. Anyways, I've had mine for a few months and am up to about 600 rounds with no faults save for a couple ammo issues that weren't the gun's fault (click no bangs). I have also tried the Federal 147gr flatnoses, ran 2 boxes and didn't have any problems. I'd mostly been using the Extar brand magazines because the 5 pack was a good deal. They seem to work well enough. As far as the magazines sticking goes, I haven't had that issue but I do have a theory. I have this ridiculous AR45 project I still have yet to refine but a recurring issue I had was that the G21 mags it used would bind up really bad when they were loaded, but fit fine if empty. What you might be dealing with is the magazines starting to bulge out when loaded because they're made of polymer. Your newer ones likely haven't started to do it yet. Something I can however put into words for you is the description of the recoil impulse. It's a rolling push that feels like it's trying REALLY hard to emulate the feel of an MP5. I've tried suppressing it with a 9mm can (PWS BDE9) and it was so nasty that I could barely shoot it. I tried a friend's F1 Maglite can he bored for 45 and it was MUCH better. Anyways, fantastic gun, been utterly dependable for me, and it's probably the only PCC actually worth recommending because it has a justifiable price tag
Can’t wait for mine to show up At my FFL in a couple days. I can certainly say without a doubt that Extar has incredible customer service! Friendly and super quick to address unexpected issues!
Love to see your honest opinions and any malfunction that occurs. Seeing the wife shoot with drills is a truth to household safety all-around. I just got the EP9 and I needed to see the EP45. Please do future updates on both. Glad you used different sourced ammo. Now I’ll cop the Extar45 for the holidays. Great review.
Yep! That's me! Right handed left eye dominant. About to start hunting with my left hand this year. It's a noticeable difference getting on target with my let eye
I bought the first gen Extar, largely based on your review, and I have loved everything about it. Yes, it's an inexpensive polymer gun, but it shots very well and I have complete confidence in it.
Mrs Outlaw, I'm also a righty that's left eye dominant, with astigmatism in my right eye. I've never tried to shoot a rifle lefty, I will now! I use a green colored holosun on my rifle and it works pretty well with my astigmatism.
I just reviewed one for TTAG and found it to be utterly reliable with whatever ammo I fed it. It was also very accurate, like sub-2-inches at 25 yards. I think this gun will be a game changer, as both a PDW and for home defense. I really like it.
Maybe the best gun for the money out there. Obviously polymer isn’t steel but I’ve yet to hear of anyone having specifically an Extar durability issue. I’ve got the newest gen 9, the .45 and the 9 carbine. All shoot reliably and they’re comfortable to shoot as well.
I have the Extar Gen 2 and I have put over 2,000 rounds through it. The gun is very accurate, no recoil, light and the best value of any gun u own…it does require delivery to a local FFL for a small fee
The manual states no lube required. My Gen 2 shoots everything. Even weird stuff like NOVX. The difference you are feeling is rubber base in the rear of the buffer tube. There is a small hollow space behind it. So you kind of get a bump then a push.
I've never seen your channel until yesterday. I watched like 8 videos on PCCs and bought an Extar Ep9 with the case and 4 mags solely on your reviews. Thanks to adding to my collection. 😂 "He made me do it honey!" 😂
I have an early/original verision of this and had a trigger component fail with ZERO rounds fired. XTAR has a fix (replacement trigger) but I did have to pay for the replacement. I am certain the NEW firearms all have the steel trigger components. I have a handfull of PCC's. The XTAR is pretty dang good. Other than my trigger issue, (resolved) I do not recall having any failures or issues since. If you are on the fence with the XTAR EP9 I would recommend especially if you are on a budget! Im thinking of using this a a stash gun (truck or "get to" gun that might be off premisis.) Its very reliable and lightweight. *edit I actually bought my XTAR based off of Honest Outlaws original TH-cam reviews so... Big Thanks to Honest Outlaw!
Mrs. Outlaw, neither eye is dominant for me. A Marine Gunny demanded I master the 1911 right-handed when I was 18, though growing up a lefty. Yes, bolt action rifles I used hunting growing up were all right-handed, but I used them lefthanded. These days, I shoot either side, handguns, shotguns, rifles. I golf right-handed.
I got the same problem. Sports I'm lefty everything else I'm righty. Rifles and pistols I'm righty, but switch it up. Had to train my right eye to be dominant but it's easier to use left eye when shooting left.
Hey shout out about one round left in the mag. I have some cheaper amend 2 magazines and they always leave last round in the magazine that doesn't get stripped off into chamber. My EP9 still holds open like it should, just leaves 1 in those cheap mags. The standard Glock mags and my other 33 sticks don't do that. 50 round drum doesn't do it either. My EP is 2nd gen. Just sharing information for anyone that may see.
I want one of these so bad but, being a 68 yr old retiree , it's not in the budget ..Guess I'll have to save my pennies. Loyal sub and love all the videos. Thanks. By the way, to the wife, I too have a stigmatism in my right eye. Thanks again for the vids man.
He’ll, I just ordered the 4 mag bundle with the case. And they give you an extra mag free right now with the code for subscribing to them. So $560 total shipped to palmetto state armory. Than the $25 transfer fee so under 600 total I reckon this is good.
I been eyeing it for a few months , saw your review and didn't watch it until I went and ordered it lol , I figured they will all be sold out after you tell everyone how great they are 🤣🤣
This looks like the Gen2 and it's been out for a few years now... I've got 4-5k through mine and have had zero issues. According to the paperwork and others, you're not supposed to lube it.. I haven't in the last 2 years. I have a GHM9 and I actually prefer the Extar over it tbh.. So much so that I got a couple coworkers to buy extars, one got the EP45 and that one is just as fun. I got the extar because of your original video on it back in 2022 and have zero regrets on it. Fucking love it. I want the 45 and the carbine as well.. hopefully they make an EP10, I'd snatch that up quick.
Manual says no lube needed. The EP magazines insert fine as long as not inserted fully loaded on a closed bolt. 300 rounds only but zero issues. Hollow points no problem.
Left eye dominant righty here. I also have had cataracts and surgery (one at a time) so now I have two eyes with really different prescriptions. I shoot pistol right handed but haven’t tried a rifle yet. New to shooting. Cool to know I’m not alone in hand eye differences. I’m also a 6’3 redhead with big paws so I pay attention to Outlaw’s grip recommendations. Love the channel!
Yep-my left eye is dominant, and I have astigmatism in my Right eye. I fire pistols right and rifles left. I had to fire my M16 lefty in the army even though I wanted to carry it right-handed.
I have the gen 1, and my daughter said the same thing Mrs. Outlaw said. (this gun is mine now) I give her a fun stick, and she shoots the center out of the target. I'd like to see them release the 10mm they were working on.
Mrs Outlaw I’m also left eye dominant and right handed. My right eye goes off in its own adventures at times and I’ve found over time I’m much more accurate with rifles shooting lefty.
I have a gen 1 EP9 and I love it. The ONLY issue I've ever had with it is trying to use cheaper knock-off 33-round "Glock" mags from Korea. Those things had the same issue of getting stuck in the mag well. I bought some actual Glock brand ones, and those work flawlessly. Tossed the Korean ones in a drawer in case I ever get some other weapon that can use 'em. With actual Glock brand mags, I've never had a single failure to feed or fire, or inserting/removing the mag.
You can tell Mrs. Outlaw has been putting in the work. Looking at old videos compared to now she shoots so much smoother and with much more confidence.
It helps having a good teacher in the house.

Range tip for lube. The dipstick for your engine has enough oil on it to generously lube any firearm. Light coating is best. 👍
Thank you for that, something so obvious that many of us would not think about
@snowgorilla9789 I learned it recently myself. I'm 47. Baffled to admit I hadn't thought of it before. Just one of those things. 👍

I currently have 3 Extars in my stable. I have a Gen 1, a Gen 2 and a carbine. By FAR the best for the buck. I’ve gotten so many people to pick one up after they shoot mine. They require nothing more than an optic. They feel like a toy, but man are they fun.
Is there a law when buying one like is it an sbr or anything or I just gets buy one and it’s legal and everything
@
All depends on your state laws.
@ gotcha I’m in same state as him Iowa so I’d assume as long as it has a “pistol brace” and no like grip it should be a pistol right
Definitely have the same eye quirk. Good to hear confirmation as to which way would work best for rifle shooting.
Been eyeing the EP9 for a while since you first suggested the OG. May finally have to pick one up.
I've had mine for about 1 year and put a few thousand rounds through it... Runs great and so much fun... absolutely my favorite.
Just shot my EP9 today for the first time. No cleaning or lubing and no issues at all. Only shot 100 rounds so far but many more to come in the future
Love my gen 1. this is the one I always take to the range. Great company
Have a great weekend y’all
What state are you in ?
Got thousands of rounds through mine with a can no lube at all@@Dynomitedog2
Hard to beat roller delayed or radial delayed systems as far as shooting nice.. CMMG banshee & the MP5 are my favorites but they cost more 🤷🏻♂️
I have one of these because of your reviews of the older models and I love that thing.
I bought this one in Feb. this year. It has been perfect!
Bubba, was ripping!! I love the Extar, glad they keep updating and improving.
If you give it a B+ then it's got an A in my book. I think I just found my Christmas present to myself this year!
I have the 45....excellent pistol overall. Hard to find anyone who doesn't like their Extar.
How long have you had the 45 version and about how many rounds through it, I’m interested in the 45.
@@chadhartman8282 8 months or so...probably around 1000 rounds. I like it a lot.
Can’t wait for mine to show up At my FFL in a couple days. I can certainly say without a doubt that Extar has incredible customer service! Friendly and super quick to address unexpected issues!
Tell Bubs I like his pinky grip when he's gripping the fore-end of the PCC. :)
Mrs. Outlaw is getting pretty good compared to a year or so ago...total confidence 👍🤘.
I have one in 45 ACP, had to shorten the front grip to allow for my suppressor, works great no issues, with or without the can
I have an Extar and it's amazing! Only a few hundred rounds though it but no failures at all.
Yes we want MORE..! Been waiting on this gun to do some upgrades.. Was hoping for a metal rail across the top..
Amen sister. Astigmatism then detached retina right eye.
Same here.... Only prism based optics for me
I love my OG EP9. I put a mil spec trigger on it. It has around 3000 rounds without a single issue.
Yep!
Im blind in my right eye so i feel you Ms. Outlaw.
Mrs Outlaw, I'm also a righty that's left eye dominant, with astigmatism in my right eye. I've never tried to shoot a rifle lefty, I will now! I use a green colored holosun on my rifle and it works pretty well with my astigmatism.
I am the same way, Mrs. Honest Outlaw!!
Left eye dominant!!
Mrs Outlaw, same left eye dominance, pistol righty, rifle lefty.
Sup outlaw, You got us all hyper about the first gen. Bunch of ran out and bought em. Thanks for the review
That's me! Left Eye Dominant with Astigmatism. Use Primary Arms SLx microprism etched reticle optics.
I have the Extar Gen 2 and I have put over 2,000 rounds through it. The gun is very accurate, no recoil, light and the best value of any gun u own…it does require delivery to a local FFL for a small fee
I have a that same extar and LOVE IT !!!
I have it in 45 runs perfect. I'm a leftie and put an odin works ambi safety on it. Love it.
I've noticed with my Extar EP9 it doesn't like off brand Glock mag's but Glock brand are perfect runs flawless any ammo .
I did notice some off brand mags don't drop free.
Looking forward to the 1000 round review. Probably going to be picking one up for Christmas
Mrs. Outlaw keeping it real. Guntube needs more of this.
Same here. I swapped the amend2 follower for one from an extar mag and the last round feeds now
@@huntgar Hey thanks for sharing, that's awesome!
I am also left eye dominant and right handed so I feel for you Mrs Outlaw.
I just bought one...thanks for the review
Love the New Property!! ❤
Oh no! There's a new one? I love Extar!
I have 2 of the 2nd gen and that's because I loved the first one so much!
The one Chris is shooting is a gen2
@@The_Murmanator I guess I was confused because he said "Gen1, gen2, and now the latest version of the pistol variant."
His Original extar videos were closer to 2018
@ awesome.. doesnt change the fact i got my extar in 2022.
Manual says no lube needed. The EP magazines insert fine as long as not inserted fully loaded on a closed bolt. 300 rounds only but zero issues. Hollow points no problem.
Yeah that ricochet at 7:37 was crazy sounding
Hell yeah Christmas present for myself
Mines just got here yesterday i love it already
