  • For three decades, a Kokomo man has worked at a neighborhood Burger King, and has only missed one day of work since he joined the team. Ricky Cardwell, 63, is known for his hard work, dedication and positive personality by coworkers and his community.

It’s actually sad that he doesn’t believe he deserves more. Corporations don’t care about humanity, they only care about money and he’s so underpaid and undervalued for how much he dedicates himself to this one corporation.

when i started working at 7-11, i met a guy in his mid 60s thats been working there for 12 years. he’d work 12 hours a day and i was fortunate enough to work with him during the graveyard shift. when the pandemic hit, he and his wife got sick, and he asked for time off. not only did he not get paid for that time off, his wife died, and he had requested another week to recover and prepare the funeral, the company declined his request, and fired him. that just comes to show how these companies don’t give a damn about their workers.
edit: i didn't expect to get this many likes, but thats not why i'm making this edit. the 7-11 i worked at that did this to my coworker, was located in LA county, near West Covina. i can't say exactly which location in fear that my current friends who still work there might be targeted by angry people that read this, just know that after a year of making the initial comment, the 7-11 is seeing less and less business due to increased shoplifting at that location. i'm sure the manager/owner is feeling it (deserved).

Working for someone is all games and there is very little honesty. I’ve seen people way higher that were simply hooked up and promotions, raises and titles were never fair. I worked my butt off just to be overtaken by someone who didn’t deserve it. I even saw people sitting around for years who worked half as hard as me and made more money and title. I’m 60 and retired. I was a construction laborer for 40 years. A job that anybody with a pulse and half a brain could do. I was also a slacker my entire life. I never took a promotion, never wanted one. I did my menial job everyday for 40 years, did what I was told to do, kept my nose clean, kept to myself, and saved as much as I could into my 401k and IRA. I appreciated the company match, but beyond that I never gave a shit about the company. If it burnt to the ground, I wouldn’t have batted an eye. And the company didn’t give a shit about me, and I was fine with that. As long as I showed up on time and did my job and didn’t make any waves, they paid me. End of story. Some people just don’t care about status, promotions, climbing the ladder, or making more money. Some just like to go to work and not be bothered with all the pressures that society puts on people. I was never an over achiever and I’m fine with that. I sit at home now and watch reruns of Good Times, Sanford and Son, and All in the Family. And on Saturdays I go fishing. Got about 830K saved up in my retirement accounts. And in 2 years I’ll start collecting social security. Today I think I’m gonna treat myself to a Whopper. And for all the kids out there leaving comments about what a shame it is that this guy spent 30 years wasting his time flipping burgers, don’t be so quick to judge others. Not all grown ups care about being a corporate manager or about driving a shiny new sports car. Some people are fine with simply going to work and doing their job.

What if he cannot handle that kind of work? What if he is content? No one thinks past their reactions and then when you call them out on that they get offended.

You failed to understand the message; you must be oblivious to it. Nothing about what this man is doing is a bad thing, they are not exploiting him, he is not being taken advantage of, he chooses to work at his position and has been loyal to them for 30 years. That shows humility and willing to work hard for the sake of just doing a good job and having respect for his job and just wanting to do a great job. She wouldn’t learn anything new, she never did resets or worked on the planogram, and she was limited in photo. I think it’s embarrassing to work somewhere so long and do the same thing, especially when your wages have topped out 2 decades ago.
She was good looking. She had a lot boyfriends. She smoked and she had a nice car. But she was on EBT just abusing it because she could. They don’t tell the whole story about these people. They fuck away a lot of their lives doing the minimum, buying cigarettes and lotto tickets daily.

My grandfather was a millionaire. And my father, who just retired worked as a cashier at Walmart for almost 30 years. He was happy there because all of his friends are there. He never wanted to be promoted because he likes the simplicity of being just a regular worker. When my dad inherited some of my grandfather’s money he used all of the money to send us to school and help us with down payments to buy houses.
