I've been following TVR and the speed 12 through all of their highs and lows since I was a teenager 25 years ago. Its hard to describe but the speed 12 captures my entire youth. Many hours spent playing gran turismo 2 (like many others I'd imagine), tuning and spraying my virtual TVR fleet in all sorts of crazy reflex and chameleon colours. Having aged, I've been lucky enough to own a couple of cerberas, but i still feel that nostalgic pull whenever i see a TVR and I'm glad that it is still romanticised by anyone with half an interest in british motorsport and history. Harry put it succinctly in the video but for me, the speed 12 defines TVR; and TVR defines bonkers british humour and underdog spirit. Thank you Harry, for reporting on it and treating it with respect. I just hope that whoever is lucky (and wealthy) enough to pick it up, keeps it in the UK, treats it with care and also allow the public to see it; rather than it bookending someone's private collection. If I had the money, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I think I speak for everyone when I say just film everything! Who cares if the video is 3 hours long. I don't. Harry, you have all the time in the world, this is not a timed segment for TV, it is whatever you want it to be. I would certainly lap it up. Listening to their (the cars) stories is everything. Great video regardless.
Totally agree - just make it three parts if that's best for the algorithm/digestability. Far better to hear your enthusiasm for somethign like the Speed 12 over the latest hybrid SUV that's selling for 250k with 5k cupholders.
A Yale door lock! Thats what all these electric cars are missing 😅 fantastic video Harry. These Silverstone auction videos are brilliant i look forward every year to seeing them all.
A friend of mine has just won the Merak you mentioned. We live in Australia and cant get to England for a month so will have it in storage until then. You are quite welcome to road test it for you channel if you wish Harry.
Well thank you Harry for providing my entertainment for this weekend since the Imola GP has been canceled. So many temptations !!! Easy to understand your enthusiasm.
HPI, the automotive data experts claim 7% of cars have been clocked in the UK. carVertical have that figure as 15.6 percent of all vehicles in Europe have a clocked mileage with 30% of Audi A8 having been clocked. I recon that percentage is much higher in auctions like this.
Love these Silverstone Auctions walk arounds, Harry's experience and knowledge on full display. Can we have a 1 hour video featuring more cars next time please?
The world of car collecting is wild! That Renault Clio Williams is guided at almost twice of that Bentley Turbo RT next to it is just madness to me as someone who don't understand the value of that Renault.
Because the Bentley will be equivalent to a small mortgage in maintainence + repair costs (especially as it's apparently sat for decades). The Renault is already sorted and driveable, wayy more reliable and affordable to run.
@@Emira_75 Also that Renault was an aspirational vehicle for broke ass spotty teenager 30 years ago when they were driving around in their mum's Vauxhall nova merit. Those teenagers have now paid of their mortgage and want to relive their youth by buying shit they couldn't afford back in the day. The Bentley is a nice car but not for me kind of thing, so there is no emotional connection.
@@Emira_75 I believe it's more to the side of the renault that it's a collectible car. There's a lot of wild prices attached to collectible cars like R33 400r for example, I can't wrap my head around on how it could be more expensive (or as expensive) than a Miura, which is also a highly collectible car but not as collectible as the 400r. Even though that Turbo RT got everything sorted, i believe it's not gonna be more expensive than the renault.
The Williams Clio was a limited edition of what was one of the best "hot hatches" of the time. The original phase 1 production (which this car is one) were numbered and only 390 were made for the UK. So it's a combination of performance, rarity and desirability that determines the value. The Bentley is a completely different animal, it's a big heavy barge, it will be a money pit and not many people need or want a car that size. Plus this one has been sat not being used for years and will probably need the purchase price again to get it in top condition
Silverstone Auctions have outdone themselves with this collection. It's truly dizzying to see such an eclectic mix of modern classics, total oddities, and all time legends, all sharing one plot of turf!
Brilliant video Harry, thank you so much! The Bentley RT looked great but a little out of place in that line of hot hatches haha! Amazing to see that Speed 12 in the flesh. Another thing, great sound/mic work in this video, really clear and easy to hear you. Thanks for keeping the videos coming, always a highlight when a new one is released.
I believe there's actually 2 of those TVR's. The owner of this red one also has a blue one that's got just a little less 'bhp' and has been sorted for the road. The sale of this is to fund another TVR project of his. Source: Drive Tribe's latest TH-cam video. Well worth a watch as Mike starts it up and gives it some 'beans'. The sound is well...orgasmic!
The Blue/purple one does not have the TVR 7.7 V12, it has an Aston martin v12. It has the original Chassis but the rest of the car is different to make it more driveable.
This is the only factory built one, the purple one is built by Graham from bits bought from the factory. As seen in the recent Drive Tribe vid which explains it better.
Have a look at the engine in theFiat Dino Coupé. All the castings say Fiat. They made them for Ferrari in a deal to produce at least 500 engines to homologate for F2 racing. The coupé is by Bertone, the spider by Pininfarina. Fiat 135 is the model number, AC or BC for coupés, AS orBS for spiders.
I spend equal parts swearing at and driving my Chimaera, but I love it to bits. There’s a sense of theatre and drama around all TVRs that is unique and addictive once you’ve experienced it. The comedy build quality and the wiring that looks like it was installed by Frank Spencer is more than overshadowed by the fun factor. At the end of the day it’s a 1000kg open top sports car with a thumping V8 under the bonnet. And it makes a noise to die for. People absolutely love TVRs when you’re out and about as well. Unlike a Porsche or a BMW they never seem to provoke any negativity from other road users. People love to look at them and hear them. RIP, TVR. Wish they were still about.
Hey Harry! Thanks for sharing! Camera filters would be appreciated. There are for every type of cameras, including GoPro and Smartphones. It would help a lot to see through the windows and inside the cars.

That Teal Conti R is mint👍👍 Having driven a Gallardo in anger, got to say i wasnt impressed. Grinding Gran Turismo All-stars race at Red rock valley 5 laps to win a speed 12 and sell for 500,000 credits over and over again. Memories......
The speed 12 is still used in most driving games today and it’s still one of the best looking cars there is.
I was rocking the speed 12 in TOCA touring cars!! Beast of a machine!!
Im glad they included into Forza as well.
If you haven't seen it yet, Drivetribe did a more thorough review a few days ago and spoke to the owner.

Thanks for recording this wonderful adventure and congratulations to all who took part and came through. Glad Harry wasn't hurt in that tumble.
Great video as ever Harry! Back in the late 1950s my father had a Riley Pathfinder which also had manual gearshift to the right of the driver's seat.
That Allard looks interesting 👍
That and the Maser.
Read through the comments looking for an Allard reference--put a Dewey Weber surfboard hangin' out the back to complete the package. . .
