  • Hey everyone, I hope you enjoyed this, yes my brother is happy with the build! And with that, I'm going to take a break from keyboard content for a while, I'm moving to a new home, with enough space for a new studio :D
    I am also thinking of doing other desk gear too. but I'll brainstorm it another time.
    But I need to save some freedom eagles for furniture and renovation, I'll also be busy packing stuff up, it's going to take a while. But I'll be back with more.
    Happy holidays everyone!

    nice😀. what was the budget for the entire build

    • @cmdrnick
      @cmdrnick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha not much really, the build (not including the keyboard, since the keyboard costs around U$D25 or if you're from MY it's RM108)
      1. The Switches 61 pcs U$D25 (or MYR103.7)
      2. Keycaps U$D15.20 (or MYR67),
      3. Car Decal StickerU$D3 (or MYR13)
      4. Plate foam U$D5.20 (or MYR22.90)
      5. Sound Proofing Foam = U$D4.60 (or MYR20)
      Alltogether= U$D 51.21 (MYR226.60)
      hope this helps :D

    thanks for posting, i'm waiting for parts to come in and these videos are keeping me fed until then. but I thought the RK boards were hot swappable?

    • @cmdrnick
      @cmdrnick  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is another variant which is this one, the very entry level RK61 non-hot-swappable-non-RGB-white-backlit-only variant. They're not really in demand because of the soldered switches, and not very entry level friendly for those who just want to start the hobby. (its better to start out with a hot-swap board than something like this imo). Sounds like you got something cool, what are you building anyways? - spill!!!

      @@cmdrnick aw thanks so much for responding! I just got an rk100 for work (need that numpad) and I’m attempting to mod it to be as quiet as I can for the office. trying gamakay silent switches.

    • @cmdrnick
      @cmdrnick  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@emotionalinertia ah that's cool, if you could, get those poron switch pads too, helps dampen those switches. I got my dad the RK100 (white backlit) for christmas to replace his old HP 330. That RK is a hefty board, i filled it up with some foam (random foams all mixed up) makes the sound more compressed. They came with Browns, tactile, overlubed the stems to make it more linear so the old mand doesnt complain about the loudness. haha. Happy building mate! :D

    I like it, hows the tactility of this switches??

    • @cmdrnick
      @cmdrnick  ปีที่แล้ว

      very lite, they're not heavy like panda's, almost natural, I mean for my fingers at least. They're slightly heavier than browns, but not squishy like browns, these are very tactile, bumps are short and sharp, but not rough, instead smooth like linears. Not much of wiggle either, barely noticeable. Though the majority prefers the roughness of pandas, I do too, which is why I have another build with pandas, lubed and filmed. But it's a different character altogether if you compare them both. One is heavy and percussively louder makes you angry in a good way (Pandas), and one just makes you want to keep writing a book explaining your confessions to your crush while listening to lofi Sekiro music (Matchas) XD

      @@oHyponz yea they are, this is probably the first or second gen RKs, in fact newer KBs from most manufacturers have somewhat changed the design to accomodate easy mods. It's a lot cheaper now too, no more big holes in pockets! But it's all individual preferences, i prefer to .... "fix" things... lol

    i have the question about the soldering, does it happens to us if we do something wrong? or is the rk 61 in a bad condition?

    • @cmdrnick
      @cmdrnick  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello the RK61 was not in terrible condition at first, it just required some cleaning, however for soldering, you just need to make sure that the solder lead makes contact with the switch pins and the switch dock on the PCB of the board. When soldering you also want to make sure the iron does not touch the other components on the PCB, that kind of mistake may render the board useless. Only solder the pins of the switches (only 2 pins each switch). If you are new to soldering, I suggest you check out some videos on how to solder PCB. if you're still not up for the challenge, there are always options to build a custom keyboard with hot-swap PCB (PCB that does not require solder as you can attach and detach switches freely). The RK61 also comes with a hot-swap version, it's just that the version of RK61 I have here is the non-hot-swap version. the very entry-level RK61, non-RGB (just white back-lit).

    • @기몽-o4g
      @기몽-o4g ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cmdrnick so if rk61 was not in a good condition, wdym by some cleaning? did something go wrong when u mod or something else?

    • @cmdrnick
      @cmdrnick  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@기몽-o4g Okay, so for this board (the one in my video) the condition was dirty, plenty of dust and debris. when I was soldering this board with the new switches, some of the switches were not working, because the solder was not enough, i had to cover the whole pin to make sure that the solder was making contact the board and the switch pins. it was a simple fix: start the soldering iron, heat up the solder on the switch pins a bit more until the solder covers the pin and makes contact with the board. then it worked.No major issues (mechanically anyways) with the PCB.
      >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
      Worse case scenario, if your RK61 is in bad condition, first check if the PCB is working using a key tester, I use VIA, because it's my fav: usevia.app/#/
      remove all the switches, use a tweezer, test each pair of pin holes on the PCB, if all 61 pair of pin holes register, then the issue is with the switch(es). if the PCB does not register from a (or a few) pair of pin holes, then PCB is potentially gone.
      if the PCB is okay, then there is hope to restore, just need new switches, a nice set of keycaps and the case, well, depending on how bad it is, might have to custom order a case, because it's really hard to find a custom case for an RK61.
