Great video, very helpful. I’ve had Galileo 2 for a while, but the B-3X sounds so much better (to my ears). I’m going to stick my neck out & say it even sounds better than my Nord Electro.
I was shocked at the difference once the Leslie kicked in. I have to admit - I can't say I've heard a more accurate sounding Hammond clone than this. I'd be interested in putting this in a head-to-head with the Nord and the Hammond XK-2...

Everything was going great. Then l decided to run this video review through my stereo system . I went in the next room and to my surprise, the $100 B3X and Galileo with Leslie difference was only noticeable if you are trying to find differences.
Performing live with a band or solo for an audience 100+ the audience's attention would be on the song you're playing. My wife said both sound great from the next room.
So I'm going to stick with my Galileo and Galileo 2. The B3x graphics is nice, the price is fine for a professional who can use this $100 expense as a tax write off and probably pay for this app with the money he made after just playing an 8 minute version of A Whiter Shade of Pale.
The Leslie on the Galileo is tweak-able with the right amount of fingering and the wife agrees. I would know, I'm an excellent FINGERRER!

If thats how you feel, sure! but I don't think many will listen to recordings from the opposite room. If I'm taking an organ solo, I know which one I'm going to pick.
@@drumbangerproduction to each his own... like I said to the normal person listening to the Gaileo organ or IK Multimedia $130 app through MIDI keyboards, they won't notice nor care... they will all say they hear an 'ORGAN' sound. If you are playing in a band and playing a part along with other instruments all nuances and fine details are lost or not even noticed. My point is neither is bad, both apps are great. I am simply stating to the average person it just doesn't matter if I use a $130 or a $20 Organ app

Again put us in a room with a concert violinist and tell him or her to play a beautiful clasical piece with a $325,000 Stradivarius violin, then do it again with a $4000 violin NEITHER one of us can tell the difference, even worse if it is a recorded piece recorded with $100,000 recording equipment. I am not knocking either Galileo or IK Multimedia, I am simply stating to the audience listening through speakers and recording equipment no one can nor really asks if it is Galileo, IK Multimedia or a REAL HAMMOND B3 the musician is playing.
I can listen to Booker T play Green Onions on either Galileo or IK Multimedia playing through MIDI keyboards and enjoy the music not the app he used. They both sound good coming from high quality powered speakers and if the listeners enjoy what they hear it is all that matters.
B Junk I heartily disagree. People in the audience will not be able to tell you the Brand of organ you are playing. They will simply know that the you or the band sounds better/fuller when you change from Galileo 2 (which is absolute junk) to Hammond B3-X or a real B3. It’s just the same as when you change to a better PA system. The people come up to you and tell you the band really sounds good or better. They don’t have any idea why. They just notice the improvement. This comparison here of Hammond B3-X to Galileo 2 was not done well. The reviewer only played sounds in the middle of the keyboard. He did not demonstrate the difference in sound across the entire keyboard range. If he did, you would have seen a drastic difference in the two organs. A better comparison would have been Hammond B3-X and the original Galileo. There would have been noticeable differences there too. But, overall, original Galileo gets much closer to Hammond than Galileo 2.

Great video thanks! Is the iPad Galileo usable standalone or is it a plugin only that needs a DAW running? Looking for something not for recordings, but to use live with my Yamaha P-125 piano (which has a built in audio interface, so a USB connection will send audio from the iPad to piano speakers with low latency)

Hello Dave! How to I adjust the volume in Galileo Organ 2 when I connect a volume pedal?
You have to make sure that the volume pedal is MIDI-mapped to whichever volume you want to control - there are separate levels for the Leslie and the Master Out. If you have your volume pedal connected, go to MIDI Learn in the Galileo settings menu and use the MIDI Learn function. I hope that helps!
How would the Galileo sound passing through eventide’s rotary efx? That might be worth comparing to save someone some money.🤷🏾♂️
While I like Rotary, I feel that it's more a special effect than an accurate recreation of a Leslie speaker. Rotary sounds great but it doesn't sound "right" to my ears on an organ. That being said, Rotary is great for other instruments, and it's my current preferred app on iOS for spinning speaker effects for anything other than Hammond.

@@DaveypooMMM Ahhh...now that I have owned the B-3X for I while I can tell you that compared to a real B3 it is too dark sounding with it's default settings. Compared to my HX3 organ midi module, which is spot on with it's defaults, the B-3X with it's default settings is very inferior. Maybe tweaking the B-3X might get it closer to the real B3 sound ...??
@@formercakid I'm sure that with some tweaking you can get B-3X to sound closer. I find that organs are like cars or guitars - the same year, make, and model can still sound/play/drive wildly different from each other, so that may also explain what you're experiencing.
I use the Hammond B3X with a real Leslie dual rotary speaker pushing wind around the room as the rotors spin. With the Leslie amp and driving it with the various analog knobs it becomes the instrument it was meant to be.

How did you bypass the Leslie in BX3? I don't see a way to take the Leslie out. I have a Studio 12 i want to run straight into.

I'm not sure I understand - my settings for the app or setting for when I play Hammond organ? Which app (B-3X or Galileo) do you want settings for? I've been using B-3X exclusively for over a year now so I can't really speak to the Galileo settings any longer...
Hey Davey, the more you get to know the B3X the more you'll be convinced 100 bucks is a steal IMHO.
I agree! The thing that makes it difficult is that it's outside the typically very low price range of iOS apps. Because it's so far outside what we're used to, it can seem expensive comparatively. But you're right - compared to a Hammond XK2, or a Nord C2 or some other equivalent (heck, even the PC/Mac versions) it's downright CHEAP! 😁👍
I was able to compensate another word my keeps telling me I'm good at... Not sure if that is something I should be proud of, but anyway, I was able to finger the Galileo app and get at least 98% close to the B3X app.
It's in the fingering guys! Finger the Galileo until you get it make the right sounds you want to hear.
There's a lot to love about Galileo, and the tones are in there if you just take the time!
Knowing ik multimedia, they might be a considerable price drop some day soon..

The MAC/Windows version was on sale the whole March.
But the corona shit messed with my income a lot, so I sadly wasn’t able to buy it.
I don’t know if the iOS app was on sale too.
I’ll go with the Galileo 2 first, since I can afford it and it might be better than the GarageBand organ.
Jules Berkhof I purchased the Hammond B3-X at the $99 price, early on. I noticed there were only 3 reviews at the time. I would check back from time to time, to see if maybe that price was a little too prohibitive for many iPad musicians . And that’s why there were so few reviews. Well, eventually they did drop it to $79. And, I thought this might help some musicians take the plunge. But, alas. It seems that was just a sale. Because, the new price has jumped to $129. It’s an outstanding App. And IK knows they hit a grand slam with this one! It appears they’re being patient and they are willing to wait for this to really take off. And, I’m sure it eventually will. It’s a remarkable B3 emulation. And the Leslie is the bomb!!!

Ah come on man, you didnt tweak the Leslie or preamp gain/eq at all - no surprise the huge difference. Samuel Sims Jr got the Leslie much closer on v1 Gallileo
You're right - with some diligence you can always get them to sound more similar to one another. However, despite that I would still say that B-3X sounds wider, fuller and more true-to-life to my ears. I suspect that the cabinet emulation may be what sets it apart, but I also find Galileo's Leslie to just be too darn fast, even with the ability to adjust the speed of the horn. At the end of the day, you have to go with what you think sounds best. Thanks for the feedback!
I'm not gonna lie - The official Hammond app does sound better - battered and worn smooth in all the right places. I think what got me was you spent time dialing in the basic tone and then just flicked the Leslie on and oh no, that's not right lol! For some one new to Gallileo from this video it'd be a bit damning to something that's a lot more capable and that, as you said, served you well for many years. My major frustration with all Yonac stuff is inability to share patches - for me it's a major shortcoming. Anyway, academic now - you got the king of organs now. Where can I find a similar benefactor!!
smashmash aka Scott Akister there is a MAJOR difference in the original Galileo and Galileo 2. And one of the most notable differences is in the Leslie simulators of the two versions. The Leslie simulator in the original Galileo is actually quite good! I purchased the add on Leslie simulator for Galileo 2. And both the Leslie simulator that came with Galileo 2 and the additional optional one are horrible! If you don’t wish to spend the money on Hammond B3-X, do yourself a favor, and purchase the original Galileo. I am extremely fussy about my sounds. I own all of the organs I mentioned above. And I know how to get the most out of keyboards. I’ve been working with them for 50 years. And have actually owned a real B3 and Porta B. Just forget about Galileo 2. It’s truly terrible!
smashmash aka Scott Akister you certainly can share patches in both Galileo and Galileo 2 using email. Is very easy. Read your manual.
@@TheIvoryman I actually own Galileo V1 and have done for a couple of years, however, I tend to use the organs in the add pack for Korg iM1. Why? Because I'm a midi guitarist and with Korg I can run one organ per string which gives me much better performance i.e. my guitar to midi converter running in mono mode on separate channels per string as opposed to all 6 on one midi channel in poly.
When I talk about patch sharing I'm talking about with the wider community, not having to know everyone's email who likes a patch I may have made. For example, Bias FX which I use has cloud based community patch sharing. Sharing by email isn't suitable for disseminating to a wide audience

I personally don't have the ear sensitive enough to appreciate a comparison like this. I might be able to hear differences but not to appreciate one over the other in general. I would only buy the IK app if the consensus was that it sounds incredible and "man you won't believe how amazing it sounds". If it's about them sounding almost tte same then it's a no brainer for me to stick with my yonac app that sounds perfect to me with not the slightest temptation. Also the IK price will eventually be dropped with a sale. But even then, buying it would be another society based urge to own shit. We are wired to want stuff for the sake of it.
Well, it's for that reason that I wanted to do a straight comparison - $99.00 USD is a lot to spend on "I wonder if I'll like it". Hopefully this video gives others a chance to hear them back to back to determine where their own threshold lay. Thanks for watching as always, Perry!
Daveypoo: The Mobile Music Minstrel it might be obvious but I will say it anyway. The price might not have to do with things like sound quality, but more so about how close it is to being like the original gear. It's the wow factor when someone who loves the original organ says: "Man it looks, feels, and sounds just like my old Hammond. What a great deal."

I agree with you 100% @Perry Pelican. Yonac did a damn good job, and IK is nice and yeah they put a lot of hours and money in the graphics and sounds, but if you are playing Je Taime Moi non plus live and you are very good player and playing it live in a ball room no one will say OOOH is that the $130IK multimedia hammond or the Yonac?
I get a close enough vibe with the Yonac and use the rest of my money to get Magellan II
Spend $1200 on an iPad but can’t afford $99. For an App. WTH!
Remember - an iPad is an investment in hardware and can be used for much more than music production. Not everyone needs a $100 Hammond organ app. I'm not saying you're wrong - just food for thought.
I have the original Galileo, Galileo 2, and Hammond B3-X. Galileo 2 is truly a pathetic joke, at best. It is extremely thin sounding with a very piercing quality you just can’t fix. And I know how. I have been programming keyboards and synths since the beginning, in 1971. The Leslie simulation is truly pitiful. And I am being sincere in my comments, not disrespectful. It is a total waste of anyone’s money. After endless tweaking and fine balancing of all of it’s parameters, I managed to get a sound I could live with from the original Galileo. I have used it regularly for live performing. If your budget is limited, by all means, purchase the original Galileo. Hammond B3-X is like the genuine article. Period. I have owned both an original B3 and Porta B.
Personally I never saw much difference between Galileo 1 & 2 sonically, but to me the differences between those and B-3X are night and day. There's utility in Galileo, but you gotta work for it.
Daveypoo: I truly cannot believe that Yonac could release a version 2 which, theoretically, ‘should’ be an improvement to the original that is, to me, noticeably inferior. I even purchased all the add on modules. Both of the individual Leslie simulators were complete zeros. I even ran both of them in series to try to strengthen the effect. And even both together couldn’t give me the same depth or quality of the Leslie simulator in the original Galileo. In fact, the Leslie simulator in the original was one of the best features of that whole organ. And, I must give the company credit for outstanding MIDI implementation! Galileo had several idiosyncrasies that I spent countless hours trying to mask, without destroying the overall sound. One that particularly bothered me was some type of ‘round robin’ thing that would cause phasing issues when playing two notes, whether part of a triad or just the two notes together a fifth apart. But, this phasing would not be the same two notes every time. Sometimes this phasing would only be present when you were playing a chord with a C and G in it, other times an F and C, and another time an E and B, etc. And, there is no way to eliminate or mask this issue. I have spent an insane amount of time trying to adjust this organ every way possible. But, as I mentioned above I got it to the point of being a decent usable organ. But, my settings are all quite different than the out of the box settings.

@@andrekennedy4439 dealing with several anomalies and idiosyncrasy’s in Galileo’s sound used to drive me nuts. If you don’t wish to spend the $129 for Hammond B3-x, and I’ll grant you as good as it is, that’s a fair chunk of change, there is a very good alternative. Genuine Soundware’s VB3m. The price is only $13.99 in the App Store. I own the original Galileo, Galileo 2, Hammond B3-x and VB3m. If you’re on a budget, my suggestion to you is to just purchase VB3m. It’s a much more satisfying sound and experience than either version of Galileo. I have been a professional keyboard player for 55 years. I have always tried to stay at the front edge of whatever is coming next. I am extremely fussy with the quality of my sounds. So, I have always programmed my own sounds. And, I know how to get the most out of my instruments. Now that I own VB3m and Hammond B3-x, I would not waste another minute with either version of Galileo.
