    Thank you for sharing the company’s photos alongside your own. I’ve been so discouraged with ordering plants online and it helps to see your positivity when reality doesn’t meet up with expectations. Gardening requires eternal optimism 🥰

      Yes, it can definitely be discouraging. But I do think these plants will look closed to the company photos as they mature over time.

    I’m researching growing these and getting ready to place orders. Farmer Bailey plugs did a great interview with 3 porch farms about growing heirlooms on here that I just watched. Great info! She really talked about pinching back until about mid July. I’m in your same zone in NE Tx. Thanks for the info!

    Perfect timing on this video. I just planted several mums in the ground yesterday that I picked up on clearance. Your mums will be bursting with blooms next spring they are beautiful and a good dahlia replacement.

    I love the vanilla, lava, mocha, satin ribbons and homecoming. All so pretty and hard to choose favorites. I hope you get a big flush next year! ❤

      Me too! I think I might pick out a few more varieties to add to my collection.

    Hi Amanda, if is just a light frost. You could trow frost fabric over them every evening/night and that way help them get trough the frost days..
    your mums looks nice. Remember that each year they will get bigger and more full in there blooms - the first year they just get established 😊 every year from now they will get better and better

      9 gauge wire from home depot for hoops, frost cloth. Easiest for me is half a cattle panel, arch it for a support and throw an old sheet over. Done. Just grab the sheet off, lift cattle panel arch off when warmer and you buy yourself time. We're supposed to warm back up for weeks after this.

    I find that Southern gardens tend to get bleached out blooms from the intense sun. Maybe some shade cloth one year to see if you get truer colors. Whatever, they are beautiful!

      Yep … sun bleach is definitely a thing.

    I'm sure you will have a beautiful mum garden next year. I love the Satin Ribbons and the Lili Gallon and I will have to purchase those. In Mich 6b I usually cut back my mums in April and then do some pinching in June just to shape it and make it bushier. My issue is overwintering potted cuttings. I dont have a garage and no room to plant the whole pot.

      @shesamadgardener  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would love to start taking cuttings of my mums but storage is definitely as issue.

    I was wondering if how all those heirloom mums you planted would do this year. Thanks for the update. Such a shame we're getting an early frost and won't see all of your mum buds bloom. Not to worry, they will be stunning next year. Looking forward to seeing the arrangement you create with them for your mom.

    I planted French vanilla, coral cavillier and cheerleader in June. French vanilla has been blooming for about 6 weeks and color looks like yours. The others are just starting and have many buds. We are also predicted to have a freeze tonight so am hoping they survive.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m thinking the French vanillas loses the yellow tone as it ages.

    You make me want to grow mums!! I have heard that those deep purple blooms darken with time. I wonder if it's the same for a mum? I think the one you have is grape queen? I have a purple rose that definitely has gotten darker in its first three seasons. Here's hoping!

    • @shesamadgardener

      Wow! So your garden has been done for a little already? My backyard faired well with the freeze because it’s kind of insulated because it is so small but the front and side gardens took a beating.

    Great information. QUESTION: I saw that you use a green care with each mum. Do you think I can place wood stakes as well? or do you recommend the cages? Where did you purchase them? Thank you for sharing...

      I got mine from Amazon. I think they worked ok but definitely missed some branches. I had these on hand already but I might consider something else in the future as these plants get larger.

    Where do I start!!! Beautiful 🌸🌺 I’m Houston zone 9a and hoping to get bluestone mums this week….its already miserable here so wondering if you think I should just pot them up and wait until September to plant in ground? Looks like potting up is what I should do with kings mums (won’t ship until end of June :/

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Bluestone Perennials are more established plants so if they look good when the arrive, go ahead and plant them in your garden … just make sure they are well watered and you are checking on them daily.

    I've been waiting for this. Looks like you are growing them without support. But a few you had to pick up to show, will you be supporting them?
    Do you have any information on how well they would do in Florida zone 8b? There are several plants (flowers) that say you can grow them in zone 8 but they won't grow here, like peonies.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have some supper rings but some branches definitely escaped! I might rethink for next year, but I’m hoping as the plants get larger that they will help support each other.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t have any info about 8b but I suggest grabbing a clearance mum at your big box store and planting it in the ground now … you can see how it does over the winter, spring, and summer before you invest in more expensive mums.

    Do you pinch your mums during the spring and early summer? Your colors are so pretty.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I let them bloom in the spring and then cut them back in July.

    I am not experienced in your zone, but am considering moving there. I wonder if you should have disbudded or punched several times to get the results Bluestone advertized as possible? Bluestone, IMO, are very overpriced. And their pics are obviously zoomed in more than your photos (something to consider). Thanks for the honesty about watering and mealy bugs. I am also confident mums are the next big thing! I can grow dahlias with ease here in OH, but also think my mom and sister in OK/TX should switch to mums instead.

      These were baby plants and they performed well for their age … when they hit the 3 year mark they should be most like the images provided by Bluestone Perennials!

      Definitely! However, I tend to be survival of the fittest regarding frosts and freezes unless they are going to be extremely long or low.

    Perenials: 1st year they sleep, 2nd year they creep, 3rd year they leap! I teng to Google images of the plant/flower I want. Catalog and plant co. Images are saturated with color and not true to life. That should really change 🤔

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a great tip to google image plants … it’s always good to see how they do for others and how they loom in different zones and areas.
